Chapter 15

It was the first day where snow was actually falling from the sky. Christmas was coming in a month and she was heading back to Happy Harbor to meet her family. The ringing on her laptop echoed around the dark room. "Hi Gar!" She said brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Megan!" He yelled happily as she smiled. The last time they talked was three days ago.

His hair was getting longer and she had the urge to reach through the computer and cut it. "You haven't called in three days" he said with a frown as she nodded. "Sorry Gar but since Christmas break is coming up they've been piling on projects and work" she said as he nodded. That's when he covered the camera quickly as she heard whispering.

Raising an eyebrow his face then reappeared. "Gar what was that?" She asked as he nervously smiled. She also noticed how his eyes kept darting to the right. "Garfield?" She asked as he turned his attention back to her. "S-sorry" he stuttered out as she frowned. "Gar what's got your attention over there?" She asked as he paled. "Gotta go bye!" He quickly said ending the video call.

She sat there in shock for a moment before frowning. It was still pretty early in the evening and she had some work she could work on. Shutting the laptop she slipped her jacket on and grabbed her book bag heading out. When leaving the dorms the cold air immediately hit her. As she walked towards the library she began to think. Everything felt so empty with Conner around her and she felt awful.

She could learn to be independent! She'll show him how much she doesn't need him. The library was dead silent as her heels clicked against the ground. Even in the Winter Megan had to still look stylish. Taking a seat at a desk she pulled her books out and began her homework. Some of it wasn't due for a couple weeks but she had nothing better to do.

It must've been hours later until she heard a voice. "Hey Angelfish" immediately she groaned not wanting to speak with him. "Sitting in the library doing homework on a Sunday night doesn't fit you so what's up?" He asked taking a seat across from her at the table. "Go away La'gann" she said as he crossed his arms leaning back on the chair. "No can do" he said.

He was persistent she could give him that. "Heard about you and the big guy breaking up" he said as her eyes went wide. News really did travel fast here. "Yes we did but-but I don't care" she said as he rolled his eyes at her. Why wouldn't he just leave her alone? "I'm taking you out" he said as she scowled at him. "Hey as friends. I'll take you anywhere you want to go right now" he said with a flirtatious wink.

It took a moment for her to consider any and all alternatives she had. "Fine" she grumbled stuffing her books back into her bag. "I'll carry that for you Angelfish" he said taking her bag for her as she blushed. "La'gann we're just friends remember?" She said as they walked out of the library. "That doesn't mean I can't compliment you" he said with a wink.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was pouring rain the day before and now it was snowing. Dick despised the way the weather had changed so fast. "Dick?" Zatanna yelled from the kitchen as he was taken out of his daze. "Yeah?" He responded walking over to see her cutting an apple in half. "Did you see the news?" She asked as he raised an eyebrow. "Was I supposed to see the news?" He asked as she rolled her eyes tossing him one of the halves of the fruit.
Mar'i was napping on the couch when they walked into the living room. "So he didn't tell you he was moving back to Gotham?" She asked in a low whisper. He groaned out of annoyance watching the news report. "Bruce doesn't tell me anything these days" he grumbled before there was a knock at the door. "Who could it be at this hour?" He asked walking to the door and opening it.
Tim stood there as he nervously chuckled. "Hey Dick" he said before being yanked into the condo. "Why didn't Bruce call me?!" Dick whisper yelled. Tim gulped running a hand through his dark hair. He took notice to how much his 'brother' had changed. "Your hairs longer" he noted out of the blue. "Surprise?" Tim said chuckling nervously.
That's when something ran into the back of him. Startled, he looked down to see Mar'i hugging him. "Hey Sunshine I thought you were asleep" he said as she giggled noticing Tim. "Uncle Tim!" She yelled running and giving him a hug. "Hey Mar'i" he said with a smile on his face. "Bruce wants you over at the Manor for dinner tomorrow night" Tim said as he groaned pinching the bridge of his nose.
He really hated when Bruce made last minute plans. "Ooh, are we going to see Grandpa?" Mar'i asked as Zatanna hushed her. "Tim really-" he began before getting cut off.
"Hey don't shoot the messenger" Tim said putting his hands up in defense.
"Bruce really needs to have us all over tomorrow night?" he asked as Tim nodded.
"So I'll just see you tomorrow" Tim said awkwardly before leaving.
Mar'i crossed her arms and huffed. "Why were you so mean to Uncle Tim?" she asked as Dick sighed. Tears welled in her eyes as he didn't answer her question. Within in second's she ran off in a fit of tears before they heard a door slam shut. "Go and apologize to her" Zatanna said as he let out a tired sigh. This was only making her angry; he can't be like this around a kid it's not right. "You need to get your shit straight you're not playboy Grayson anymore you're a father; her father so act like it!" she yelled before turning around and walking away.
He stood there for a moment letting everything sink in. "Zatanna" he said walking towards Mar'i and her's bedroom. Standing outside he heard soft sobbing noises coming from inside followed by whispers. "Y-you and Daddy are fighting" Mar'i cried out as Zatanna squatted down in front of the girl. She was gripping onto a piece of paper as her hot tears fell onto it. "No baby we aren't" she said in a soft voice wiping the girl's tears away with her thumb. "Do you love Daddy?" Mar'i asked as Zatanna paled. He wasn't here to hear her so what would the harm be in telling her technical daughter. "Yes baby I love Daddy so much so don't worry" she said as Mar'i nodded hugging Zatanna. "I love you Mommy" she said.
"I love you too baby" Zatanna said rubbing her back soothingly.
"Hey, can I come in?" Dick asked knocking on the door.
"Yeah and how long have you been standing there?" she asked curiously.
"Just got here" he lied but she couldn't tell he was.
He walked over and sat beside Mar'i on her bed with a small smile on his face. "Hey sunshine I'm sorry about before" he said as the girl wiped her tears and nodded. His eye caught the drawing she was holding on to. "What did you draw?" he asked as she turned the drawing around to show them. It was a circle coloured in red all the way to the top which slightly confused them. "This is my friend and his badness level. It is extremely high for someone like him but he disagrees" she said as the two of them put on fake smiles and nodded.
"Okay, I think it's bedtime now" Dick said as Zatanna nodded in agreement.
"But I'm not tired" Mar'i whined.
"We have a big day tomorrow baby we don't need you to be tired" Zatanna said as Mar'i nodded.
"Goodnight Daddy. Goodnight Mommy" she said lying back on her bed.
Dick tucked her in planting a kiss on her forehead before standing up. Zatanna did the same as Mar'i whispered something in her ear. He raised an eyebrow watching the two of them as they giggled. They waved at her before shutting the door and walking down the hallway. "So it's safe to say that her friend is imaginary?" she asked.
"Oh yeah" he responded as they walked into the living room and sat on the couch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~                                                                                                                                                             Lian was still at the apartment as she sat on Wally's lap staring at him with goofy smile on her face. "Arty I don't like the way she's looking at me" he said looking to his girlfriend drinking a glass of water. She raised an eyebrow at him as she finished off the glass and put it on the counter. "She's technically your Neice Wally" she said walking over and grabbing Lian off of his lap. "Do you like your Uncle Wally?" she asked as Lian giggled as a response. It was late and it was snowing outside which caught his eye. "Arty its snowing!" he yelled running over to the window.

As she walked over she hit her foot on a coffeetable. "Oh fuck" she said biting her lip. Stumbling your toe was like an absolute death sentence. "Oh fuck" Lian said as all the colour drained from her face. Jade and Roy were going to kill her if they heard Lian saying that when they came to pick her up. "Wally fix this! Say something stupid!" she yelled holding Lian out to him as he raised an eyebrow. He didn't hear what the toddler said so he didn't exactly know what was going on. "Um why?" he asked scratching the back of his head confused.

"Oh fuck" Lian said as he paled.

"That's why now fix this!" she yelled.

"Why am I supposed to fix this I didn't even do it" he said slightly panicked.

He was actually kind of scared of Jade for many different reasons. "This is so not good she's going to kill me" Artemis said shoving Lian into his arms as she ran a hand through her long blonde hair. "Kill you? Your sister is going to pin this on me, I have a death sentence hanging over my head right now Arty!" he yelled as she sighed trying to think of a solution. Walking over she took Lian's face in her hands and gave the toddler a pleading look. "That is a bad, bad word, Lian. Do you want to make Mommy and Daddy upset when they come to pick you up?"  she asked as Lian gave her a toothy grin. "Oh fuck" Lian said again as Wally and her both groaned.

Either Jade or Roy were going to murder them and frankly, they didn't want to face their wrath. "No bad Lian" she said as Wally raised an eyebrow. "I didn't know she was a dog" he said as Artemis shot him a death glare. "Wally you're a dork and I love you but please shut up" she said as he shut his mouth and narrowed his eyes at her. "I love you" Lian said as their jaws dropped. "Yes Lian good girl!" she yelled taking her out of Wally's arms and spinning her around. Maybe they weren't going to die after all?

Then they went back to what they were originally supposed to do. It was dark out now as the snow fell gently to the ground. For a moment Wally swore he saw a small shadow run across the buildings rooftop in front of them. "Hey Arty did you see that?" he asked.

"See what Wally?" she asked as he squinted to get a better look.

"That small shadow moving across the rooftop over there" he said pointing to the building across from them.

"Babe you're tired and are probably seeing things" she said as he shook his head.

"Yeah you're probably right" he said rubbing his emerald eyes.

"Okay Lian its time for bed" Artemis said as they walked to their room.

Even lying bed cuddling the two like they were teddy bears he still couldn't get the figure out of his head. Maybe he was seeing things or maybe he wasn't. He had been catching up on some projects today while Artemis kept Lian occupied. Jade was supposed to pick up Lian tonight but texted Artemis earlier saying that she would get her in the morning. Shaking his head again he closed his eyes pressing his face into Artemis's neck. "Love you Baywatch" she whispered as he responded giving her a light kiss on her neck.

"Love you too Arty" he whispered back with a small smile.
