Nightraid! The Information Broker!
Decided to add a few feels in at the end. XD
(Robin's POV.)
My motorcycle flew down the street. I had told Cherry and Ghost to go back to Gotham. At first, they'd denied it easily but after a while they eventually went back. They were injured anyways. I needed some time to myself after all thats happened. I mean why wouldn't I? The team had attacked me and tried to kill me, Zatanna was killed by Artemis and Wally was killed by Miss Martian. I don't think I've ever felt so much pain before. If its possible, it feels even worse then it did with my parents death. Alfred, Zatanna and Wally.
Gone. Dead. I'll never see them again.
Thats just how it is now. Nothing but a faded memory. Killed by their comrades. Killed by people they trusted. People they trusted their lives with.
"Don't put your life in others hands... Their bound to steal it away when they get the chance." He muttered before his hand fell back to the floor, drenching itself in the blood and dirt that the rain could never wash away.
I shook my head of the memories. But that didn't stop the tears that fell while they had the chance.
I didn't know where I was headed. I was just aimlessly driving. Putting distance between me and the League and anyone else who was hunting me down. I suppose it could be a good thing if I didn't know where I was. If I didn't know where I was, then there could be a slight chance that the League wouldn't either. At least, I'm hoping... But then again, hope is useless, isn't it?
~~~~~Deathhhhhhh!!!~~~~~
~~~Death!~~~
~~~~~Death is the answer!~~~
~~~~Can you tell?~~~~
~~~You know... Since I killed Wally and all...~~~~ :D
I sighed as I leaned my motorcycle against a wall, hiding it in the shadows of an alley. I flipped up the wall to the roof and sat there. How long had it been since the League had been mind controlled? A day? On the day of a new year, my world shattered. Crashed and faded into nothingness. Just a memory of last year.
A new year, a new age, a new dawn, a new life, a new despair, a new scar, but at the same time... A new hope.
Something moved in the shadow. I practically shot up. If it wasn't the fact that I was on high alert, I probably wouldn't have noticed it. I watched it closely, losing it a couple of times but then the figure pasted straight by. As it did, I saw a glitter of a glowing red eye... What? It was a figure of a girl...
Curious, I followed her.
~~~Deathhhhh~~~
I jumped silently down into the alley, losing the girl for a couple of seconds before I eventually found her again. How does she keep doing that?! I was trained by Batman for crying out loud! But yet I kept losing her! Was I just out of it or something?
A dagger whizzed past me, barely scratching my neck. My eyes widened. How...?
"Who are you?" The girl growled, glaring at me.
"Uhh... I'm..."
"Why are you following me?" She asked.
"Well, I'm..." What could I say to that? Your red eyes interested me, so I decided to follow/stalk you. Yup. That'll work out just great...
"Why are you following me?" She repeated.
"I was just... Curious..." I muttered.
"Curious?" She repeated, her red eyes glaring at me. Her eyes were just like normal eyes but they were a bright red that seemed to glow in the darkness. She was still in the shadows, so I couldn't really see her, just her face and it was hard to just see that. But her eyes shined clearly.
"Who are you? You managed to lose me a few times... No one can do that." I asked.
A few times = Too many times and I'm embarrassed to say so considering I was trained by The Batman and some random girl managed to lose me multiple times.
"That was the point. I was trying to lose you, moron." She scowled. That explains it. But how did she know I was following her?
"Your not very friendly, are you?" I asked.
"Considering the fact I was practically just stalked, no. No, I'm not."
"Hey! I was not stalking you!"
"Then what do you call it, Red?"
"I was- wait... What did you just call me?"
"Called you Red, because your dressed in red and black. But red suits you better. I also don't know your name. So deal with it." She stated.
"Well. Your good at nicknames..." I muttered sarcastically.
"What do you want?" She asked again.
"Huh?"
"I said, what do you want?" She repeated.
"I was just-"
"You know what? I don't care. Don't follow me." She stated, then disappeared into the shadows.

I followed her.
Why? Curiosity and a possible ally.
That makes sense? Right...?
First, she had stole something. I, unfortunately didn't do anything due to me trying to stay hidden. But I did continue following her. I suppose what she stole wasn't really that important... I'm also curious as to how she did it without even setting a single alarm. She's skilled and that's a fact. She's clearly not just some random girl. - If the eyes weren't good enough proof for that.
I had followed her to some secret base. It was dark so I could barely see anything when she stopped and sighed.
"Seriously? What do you want?" She asked. I blinked. She knew I was here the entire time? "Dude. I've known you've been following me for ages. Now what the hell do you want?"
I flipped down from my hiding spot.
"Why are you following me?" She continued. I stepped out of the shadows.
"Because I needed to speak with you."
"Great... Just what I always wanted..." she muttered.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Me? I am Nightraid."
"Nightraid?" I repeated.
"Yup." She said, popping the 'p'. "My name is Nightraid. You may have heard of me from rumors."
"Rumors?"
"Everyone who has powers but isn't well known like the League, except for the city they live in, has rumors about them."
"What's the rumor about you?"
"The girl who raids places at the dawn of night. The thief in the night, no one knows where it hides." Nightraid stated.
"Sounds familiar. People don't know whether your a girl or boy, let alone human. So they call you an 'it.' Although most people believe your a girl anyways." I mused, trying to ignore the fact she was a thief.
"Why are you here?" She asked, getting straight to the point as she sat down on her chair in front of a laptop.
"No point in sugar-coating it. I need allies." I replied bluntly.
"Nope, not interested." She said, swirling around on her chair and going back to her laptop.
"You don't even know what its for!" I exclaimed. Her answer will probably be the same when I tell her what its for anyways. At least she'll have a reason then though.
"I don't care either. I'm not really the 'ally' type. Here's another rumor about me. 'The Lone Wolf.' Meaning exactly what it sounds like. 'Lone' As in alone, I don't like people and leave me the hell alone." Nightraid scowled, typing away at her laptop. The eyes explain the wolf part.
"I-" I started.
"Don't care. I just don't care. But I can give you a list of people. I can't say they'll help you, but well, you never know."
"Isn't that itself helping me?" I asked.
"Call it what you want. To me, its getting rid of you. I'll give you the list, but you have to leave me alone in return." Nightraid offered, turning her head to face me. I thought about it for a minute. A list of allies, but Nightraid won't be a part of them... I thought about it for a minute longer as Nightraid continued to type away.
...
I couldn't miss this chance.
"Deal." I stated. Nightraid turned her head to face me again, her face blank but then a small smile appeared on her face as she turned around again.
"I can't give you all their information, but I can give you stuff like rumors and cities and a few names." Nightraid explained.
"Good enough." I said, as I walked up to her to see what was on her screen.
"Alright, first there's a boy who people call Phoenix... But he claims that isn't his name. People still call him that anyways." Nightraid started.
"Why?" I asked.
"It is said he died a year ago. But came back to life. Rumors say; 'He is the boy who came back from the depth's of hell with the heat of hell's inferno.'"
"Hell's inferno?"
"People say his heat is similar to lava. In other words, he has fire powers but his heat can reach that of a volcano. Magma, basically."
"Sounds cool." I whistled. Nightraid scoffed.
"Its the opposite of cool." Was that a pun? "A single fireball alone is said to be able to melt a wall. Yeah, it's that hot."
"I'd hate to face him in combat...
"So does everyone else... But you see where he gets the name Phoenix from, right?"
"A... What? Demon bird who comes back from the dead with fire powers?"
"Sums up... All his opponents have serious burns. Well, some. Some of them he could take out with Physical Contact. Most of them were unlucky enough to face his fire..."
"Next up is a girl... Go girl power!" She muttered sarcastically. I rolled my eyes. "The rumors surrounding her are... 'The wild animal who could never be tamed.'"
"Wild Animal? Shape-Shifter?" I asked. Nightraid shook her head.
"No. According to Police Reports she has animal instincts."
"Animal instincts? What? So she just has the instincts of an animal?"
"Kind of. According to the reports, she had feature of animal. It changes on the situation though. A cat, she gets the ears, tail, eyes and fangs. The hearing and landing and stuff, increased speed and acrobatics. That kind of thing. But then she has a monkey, wolf, dog and a few other forms, gaining each of their specialty. Like hunting or something." She continued.
"I get it..."
"There's not much more information on her except her clothes change along with the different instincts she uses so the clothes suit the need. She seems to help the police often, but then she disappears."
"That's all?"
"Yup. Next one. There's a boy calling himself Thunderstorm. As the name implies, he uses thunder. Rumors are.... 'The boy who mercilessly hammers down on his opponents. He surrounds himself by dark clouds which people believe are impossible to penetrate.' Some people even believe he uses super speed due to the speed he travels at sometimes. But I've analysed it, in reality he's-"
"-Moving at the speed which thunder can." I cut her off. She nodded.
"Thunder is pretty fast, but I wouldn't say 'Flash' fast." Nightraid said.
Hello void in my heart, Welcome back, I enjoy the heartache you give me whenever you appear!
"I suppose so..." I muttered, doing my best to ignore the pain. This was important. I couldn't afford to be distracted by my emotions. Mission first. I can worry all I want later.
"That's all I have on him. No, wait. A witness claims that she saw a symbol of thunder under his right eye. Like a Lightening Strike."
"A tattoo?"
"Seems so. "
"Next, there is some kid named Beastboy or something. Hard to miss. He's green."
"Beastboy? Green? Instincts or shifter?
"Shifter. Can change into any animal. Rumor has it he was saved by a martian and that was how he got his powers." She explained. My eyes widened. Saved by a martian? Wait, don't tell me - Miss M! That kid... Oh, you gotta be kidding me. Unless there's a martian living on Earth in secret...
"He seems young, around 12, helps people. Probably doesn't have a social life due to the fact he's green. It doesn't seem as if he can change his skin color either... Just his form."
Not entirely like Miss M... But there's no doubt about it! Right?
"Anything else?"
"Not really. Can't do mystical. Just normal animals."
"Fair enough."
"Next, there's another girl... Don't know her name... 'The girl said to be the end of the world with her dark magic which she supposedly obtained from a demon.'"
"A demon?" I asked. Nightraid shrugged.
"Not much on her either. Wears a purple cloak that conceals practically her entire body, including her face. Some people say they see a red gem on her forehead, others say its an eye making her look like a demon, Which is why some believe she obtained her powers from a demon."
"Understandable."
"Next one. Some water kid. Not Aquaman or his sidekick Fishboy or whatever." My eye twitched.
"Aqualad. Not a sidekick. Partner." I stated. Nightraid looked back at me, her eyebrows arched. She clearly wanted an explanation.
"We're good friends. He's a partner, not a sidekick. Never call a partner or protège a sidekick. Their partners." I explained.
"Alright, alright. I get the message. Anyways, kid with water powers, not Aquaman or his partner. It's some other kid. I think... No, I can't find his name. 'The boy who is the Crippled waves himself.' My guess is he had a bad past or something. Or maybe people just say that due to his powers. He doesn't seem to be Atlantinan. (Atlantic) Just some kid with water powers. There seem to be a few differences between the way they do things. He can surround himself in water and use that as a shield. He can freeze the water too. Doesn't need to be best water as he can make his own water. Similar to his people use fire powers. They just... Create it."
"Sounds cool." I stated.
"Yup. Next is Excalibur."
"Excalibur?"
"Yup, just as his name implies - a sword. He wields weapons. Swords are his specialty. As for rumors. 'The boy who's instincts and reflexes are sharper than any sword. It is said he can wield any kind of weapon.'"
"He kills?"
"Doesn't seem like it. He has honed his skills without coming close to killing or drawing blood. Either the sword he uses are blunt and the guns he uses have darts then he just has really good self-control. He can constantly switch out his weapons. People believe its some sort of transformation method because of how one sword will disappear and another will take its place."
"I see... So his powers, revolve around his weapons?"
"Looks like it."
"Now we have another girl. 'The girl who brings bad luck to everyone' Pink hair, darkish colors, not much on her. Cops can't catch her. Shes a thief, bad guy, well girl."
"So possible ally, but she'd have to be turned to my side?"
"Yup. Watch out for her tricks. The ground can collapse under you, a roof can fall on you, a car can hit you or knock something over to hit you. Anything. Be prepared."
"Heh. I'm always prepared."
"Whatever. If she kills you, your own fault."
"She kills?"
"Well, not that I'm aware of. But you make me want to kill you and I don't even kill." Nightraid scowled. I shrugged.
"Meh, I could take you."
"What was that? Wanna test that theory?"
"Not unless your considering joining me."
"I'm considering killing you."
"Hm. I'll pass on that offer, thanks." I declined.
"That's what I though. The sooner I give you this list, the sooner you can leave me the hell alone."
"Glad to know we'll get along..." I muttered. Nightraid glared at me. I shrugged.
"Anyways... Huh. Two girls stupid enough to help in Gotham. Don't they know Batman hates other supers? These kids have a death wish." Nightraid muttered. I think I know exactly who shes talking about. "First, there's the phantom of the city. 'The girl from the underworld. Shrouded in her own darkness, she passes through the city without a sound, even avoiding the Bat.'" Yup, thats Ghost alright. "Along with her partner or best friend, whatever. 'The girl who's firey plants smash through her opponents and her plant's gas' enough to knock out a whole block.' Some who have seen the two say their complete opposites. The phantom, believed to be called 'Ghost' is just what she sounds like. A phantom, invisibility, going through walls, flying, plasma bolts. People say shes from the underworld, but I doubt that. But then again, it could be true. I mean, we have aliens protecting us, superweapons, alternative worlds and dimensions... If someone said the Underworld existed, I wouldn't be surprised." She said. Hmmm... So these are the rumors surrounding those two. I always wondered what others thought of them.
"According to rumors, these two work together and are the perfect combination. Apparently, they rival that of the Dynamic Duo with how well they work together. But they seem like complete opposites. Ghost, - yeah I'm calling her that, seems like the dark type. Moody, quiet, cold, doesn't do smiles. Firey-nature kid, I'll call her flower, smiley, happy, cheery, bright colors. Huh, they're like a different version of the Dynamic Duo. Ghost is a different version of Batman and Flower is a different version of... Who was it again? Batboy?" Nightraid muttered. You are not allowed to kill, you are not allowed to kill, you are not allowed to kill, you are not allowed to kill, you are not allowed to kill, you are not allowed to kill, you are not allowed to kill, you are not allowed to kill...
"He's called Robin." I growled.
"Yeah, I care. Everyone only cares about the main heroes from the Justice League. Any other heroes or sidekick, are unimportant and unknown such as the people I'm telling you about. Their not part of the League, so no one cares or knows about these other 'heroes.' If you can even call them them that...
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO KILL! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO KILL! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO KILL! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO KILL! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO KILL! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO KILL!
Breath in, Breath out, in, out, in, out.
"They do matter." I stated calmly. "They are the future. Especially the partners. We are the future generation."
"But that's not what others think. No matter who you are, if you are a partner to one of the heroes in the league, even if that hero passes away, retires or the sidekick takes control, they will always be compared to the original. People will then constantly complain that they're not good enough to be the next one. They will never escape it. It follows them forever and no matter how hard they try, they will never be that person and people will be infuriated with that. Its the same for the League's sidekicks. I honestly pity them. They took on the role of being a sidekick and for that, they are forever going to be held down by that role. No matter where they go, who they are, who they become, there will always be those hidden invisible chains to hold them down and stop them from reaching their full potential. They can depart from the League, and move across the world, but in the end, the League is known all over the globe - no, the universe. They help on outer space missions as well. So like I said, they can never escape it." Nightraid spoke, her eyes sad and full of pity as she stared at her computer screen. I grit my teeth, my fist clenched so much that blood dripped to the ground. My bangs had created a shadow over eyes. Nightraid looked over at me, her face now blank but her eyes still showed the pity. I hated pity.
But I couldn't help but think, - no. I knew she was right.
"So you know it's true, then. You know it deep down. but you never wanted to admit it because The League has done so much for you you feel indebted to them, don't you, Robin?" My head snapped us. How did she knew my name? She didn't know it earlier... I never told her my name and she didn't even know much about the side-partners, right?
When did I start calling them sidekicks? Just how far have I fallen?
"How did you..." I trailed off.
"Information Broker. And I always knew. You don't remember me, and even if you did, I've changed. A long time ago, I used to live in Gotham." Nightraid started. My eyes widened. I've crossed paths with Nightraid before? "You saved me and my parent's lives. Batman wasn't there but after you saved us, you disappeared. I followed you, I expected Batman to praise you on how well you managed to save us without any of us getting a single scratch. But instead of praise, you got a lecture. I was honestly furious at Batman for that. Since that day, you were my hero, not Batman. Despite the fact you saved my parent's lives, my parents died a little while after... But thats besides the point. The point is, you were my hero and you were unappreciated despite the fact you did so much for that damned city. I despised it. A little while after that and I finished my physical training. I set out, I learnt more about the sidekicks and was further infuriated. Even when it was the sidekick that saved the lives, and ultimately saved the 'hero' the sidekick would still get some sort of lecture, the main 'hero' would get all of the credit and the partner is barely even recognized. People can't even get their names right despite the fact they just the man to boy or lad or something, but people can't even remember that. Then the damn 'hero' constantly pushes the partner away, believing that they need to fight something on their own because its too dangerous for the other despite the fact they were heroes at the same damn age! Not only that, but if they're not allowed to handle the dangerous stuff, how will they ever learn how to deal with that stuff when they're older?! It pisses me off so much!" Nightraid screamed as she got up from her seat and punched the wall. I flinched back, fear suddenly striking me. A mad female never ends well. You could feel the hatred radiating off her. Why did she feel so much hatred?
"Did the League do something bad to you? Or cause some sort of chain event that eventually hurt you?" I asked. Nightraid took a deep breath.
"No." She sighed.
"Then why do you bare them so much hatred?"
"Because of their partners. Because of you. You did nothing wrong that night. Even now, when I look back at it, even with my skills, I can't see a single thing you did wrong. You saved me, my mum, my dad, none of us were in the slightest way. I don't think you were either. You didn't take any risks. You weren't reckless, you were careful and you were quiet. You put us at ease, and we trusted you completely without hesitation. You were quick as well. You saved our lives in under 3 minutes, but yet... He was still mad at you! Because you didn't to it exactly the way he taught you! Its like I said! People get mad when your not exactly like the original. It sickens me! No, it pisses me off! I seriously pity you." Nightraid once again punched the wall. She turned to me and for some reason, I flinched backwards. I seem to be doing that a lot recently...
"Why doesn't it bother you?" Nightraid asked, her eyes soft with pity.
"Because, I..."
"And that your team apart of? People see that as just a joke. Congratulations, sidekicks who nobody knows, your just digging yourself in deeper on how you'll forever be trapped as the sidekick, stuck in the role of being the next member of the Justice League, only to be trapped by that role forever and chained down, never being able to reach their full potential. Doesn't it bother you?"
"I... Will never be chained down by my role as Robin. Robin was someone that I created. An original hero, that just happened to fight alongside Batman, but that doesn't make me his sidekick. It just happened that I lived with him since he adopted me, so I helped him out." I said, doing my best to avoid the truth. Pain erupted in my stomach and I gasped for breath as I fell to my knees. I desperately tried to breath but I couldn't recover quick enough. A hand wrapped around my throat stopping any chance I had to recover.
"You'll honestly be lucky if you ever get the chance to see the League, let alone save them. What do you possibly think you'll gain the way you are now?" Nightraid growled. My lungs were burning and I was desperately trying to gasp for breath but her hand blocked me from doing so. "Do you honestly think you'll accomplish anything?! What can you possibly do on your own? This is the kind of thing they were supposed to teach you, but were too stubborn to do so because they didn't want you to get hurt and look where thats gotten them! Where its gotten you! They don't understand anything."
"I do." I choked out. Nightraid sighed and released me. I gasped for air.
"If you wanna die, then that's your problem." Nightraid said, walking over to her computer.
After a few minutes had passed and Nightraid has calmed down, I walked over to her again attempting to ask her why she cared so much.
But she cut me off before I could begin.
"Look. There's something important I have to tell you."
