Milk and Honey
She lay still in the hospital bed, her eyes glued to the vase filled with flowers on the table beside her bed.
She didn't like the flowers there, it showed life, in a time she so happily would welcome death.
Margo heard the door click open and in walked a doctor, and woman she hadn't seen before, she looked like some kind of therapist.
"Margo, this is Doctor Windsor, she'll be taking care of you once you're allowed to go home, you'll have regular appointments with her, where she'll help you through what you're struggling with," The male doctor explains and the woman offers Margo a smile.
"I know what you must be going through, but we can work through this," Says the woman and Margo has to stop herself from rolling her eyes, she sounded exactly like the last therapist she had.
"Well, I'll leave you and Doctor Windsor to have a talk and I'll send the nurse in afterwards to check your bandages," The doctor says, gesturing to the dressings that were wrapped around Margo's wrists.
Doctor Windsor sat down on the edge of Margo's bed and offered the girl a soft smile as the other doctor leaves.
"So, Margo, I have your notes from your previous visit to the hospital and also the notes from your previous therapist...Would you mind...Explaining why you've attempted suicide again?" Asks the doctor and Margo just shrugs.
"I'm tired," She says and the doctor's eyebrows furrow at the simple statement.
"I don't think I understand," She replies and Margo gives her a soft smile in return.
"Listen, I know you're here to help me, and to get me to talk about my problems, but I don't want to, at least not now. I'm so done with this shit all the time, why can't people just let me do as I please?" Margo explains and the doctor nods.
"People love you, they just want you to be safe," Doctor Windsor says and the teenage girl just sighs.
"I'll come back tomorrow," Doctor Windsor says, "I'll let you have some time to rest,"
"Okay," Margo mutters and the doctor stands up and heads out of the room.
A few moments later and the nurse enters carrying a tray of things she'd need to re-dress the cut wounds on Margo's arms. The nurse gets on with it while Margo just stares towards the flowers- Simon had brought them in, and her mother had taken them from him, refusing him entry to the room. The nurse finishes the last bandage and a knock at the door makes Margo jump a little.
The door opens and there he stands, he was wearing his football kit and his hair was a mess. He looked from Margo to the nurse and back again, "I can wait outside if you-"
"No, come in, I'm just finishing up," Says the nurse and Simon smiles before stepping inside the room.
The nurse finished up and then grabs her tray before heading back out of the room. Simon nods and smiles as the nurse does so before turning to look at Margo. It was the first time he'd seen her awake for a week. Her parents had denied him access to her, but he'd seen them leaving the hospital in their car and he took his chance, hoping that Margo might be awake.
"Thanks for the flowers," Margo mutters, her fingers running over the bed sheets.
"I didn't know what to pick, Vik picked those ones," Simon says, his voice calm and smooth.
"Well, tell Vik I said thank you," Margo says and Simon nods. He drops his backpack on the floor before walking over to Margo's bed.
"How are you?" Simon asks and Margo frowns at him, "Sorry, that was a stupid question,"
"I'm okay," Margo says as Simon sits down on the edge of her bed and nods.
"How long will you be here for?" Simon asks, glancing around at the plain white hospital room.
"Another week at least...They've got me the 'best therapist' in the business apparently...But she just sounds like my last therapist," Margo says and Simon can't do anything but nod.
"How's school? Did you win the match?" Margo asks, turning the conversation around.
"Yeah, school is fine, just the usual shit, I've had a few people ask where you are, but the usual assholes have already started with multiple rumours, of course, I set them straight. And yes, we did win the match," Simon tells her and Margo offers him a smile.
"Okay, and how's Summer? And how is Ethan?" Margo asks another question.
"Summer and Ethan are both great, still together, and they aren't scared to show it- the PDA is off the scale," Simon chuckles and Margo lets out a small giggle too.
"And how are all your other friends?" Margo asks and Simon shrugs.
"JJ got a new girl, apparently he's already banged her 5 times- they've been together a week," Simon says and Margo rolls her eyes, "Cal is just Cal, Harry keeps talking about Katie and Jess both wanting to suck him off, Josh is fine too, and Vik is good too, as far as I know, though he's been having girl trouble too,"
"And you, how are you?" Margo asks and Simon lets out a lengthy breath.
"I'm fine...But I miss you," Simon says and Margo smiles softly, she stretches her hand across the bed and places it on top of Simon's.
He looks down at her hand, it felt like his skin had ignited when she touched him. He liked her, a lot and he wanted to tell her, but he didn't think it was right.
"Simon, I'm not going to be in here much longer," Margo whispers and Simon shakes his head.
"I like you a lot, Margo, I couldn't watch you die in that bath tub...I'm sorry for saving you when you didn't want saving, I'm sorry," Simon says and Margo squeezes his hand gently.
"Simon, you're the only thing left to live for," Margo says and Simon's eyes lift from their hands to her eyes.
"Do you mean that?" Simon asks and Margo nods.
"I swear," She says and he moves up the bed a little before leaning down to her, his lips connect to hers and she smiles against the soft touch of his kiss.
"What is going on here?"
The sudden voice makes Simon jump, he pulls away and turns to see Margo's father.
"Dad, leave it," Margo says and before Simon can even put up his defences, Margo's father had walked across the room and has Simon pinned against the wall.
"Stop!" Its Margo's mother.
"How far you come in here after we told you to stay away," Terry says, holding Simon by the throat now.
Simon attempts to kick his legs out but he can't, he can't breathe either.
Diana runs forwards and pulls Terry back before throwing her balled fist at his face. Terry falls back against the wall, his grip loosening enough for Simon to move aside. Simon grabs at his throat as the sudden inhalation causes his lungs to burn.
"Help! In here!" Diana calls as Terry's eyes burn with anger.
"You fucking bitch!" Terry shouts and just as he smacks Diana hard across the cheek, the nurses and doctors arrive along with a security guard.
"Stop! Right now!" The security guard shouts and he steps forwards, and arrests Terry, pulling him away from the room.
"Simon?" Margo asks, she was attempting to get out of bed, her fingers reaching for the drip that ran into her arm.
"Stop, don't pull that out," The doctor says and Simon walks over to Margo, his vision was hazy, but he could see Margo almost clearly.
"Margo, I love you," He whispers before falling to the floor, luckily the doctor catches him before he can hit the ground and Margo watches with tear filled eyes as Simon is placed on a hospital bed and taken out of the room.
