"(Y/n)!" The girl looks over from the wall she was leaning against, seeing her friend call out for her in the distance as she walks up to her.
"Nancy! Hi!" She grins happily, her walking over to hug the brunette tightly.
"It's been so long!"
"A month or two yeah! You must've been busy with work." (Y/n) says and the two girls walked together to visit some shops and have a well-deserved girl's day out.
"Yeah. Same for you right? How's the construction of the new mall going?"
"Slow but we've started getting suppliers so that's good news."
"Is Robin not joining us?" Nancy asks and (y/n) shakes her head.
"She's working today but I promised her to get her some lunch when we visit the video store. I got some new movies I need to rent and old ones to give back."
"Sounds like a plan. What were you looking to buy today anyway?"
"Well, I wanted to actually buy a gift for Eddie..." Nancy smirks seeing (y/n) flush like the cute girlfriend she was, buying her boyfriend a gift.
"Is this for like an anniversary or something?"
"Not really no. I just wanted to get him something nice." The girl says, thinking back to her boyfriend's worn-out Lord of the Rings book they had spent the last couple nights reading together in his bedroom. "I actually want to buy a complete book collection for him."
"Oh! Which one?"
"Lord of the Rings but I don't actually know where to get one so I thought you might know."
"I actually know a couple of bookstores around here that might have series collections. We can go take a look!" The girls nod, visiting a couple book stores together to find the collection but it was almost impossible, like the series itself was rare. "This is the last shop, I hope it's here..." Nancy says, holding bags of shopping she and (y/n) had done while they were roaming around. The girls both had some clothing they bought plus random items they thought looked cute. The two of them looked around the shop until they went to the back, gasping loudly when they found the rare collection in full standing on a shelf with other books. "This would be one hell of a birthday gift for Munson after what we went through!" Nancy sighs out as (y/n) went to grab it, the books encased in a unique box that represented the series.
"Birthday gift...?" (Y/n) mumbles out, her eyes going wide.
"Yeah! Isn't his birthday coming up or something? Or maybe sometime later?" Nancy asks as the girls went to the front desk to buy the collection. Wheeler notices her friend being awfully silent as they walked out of the store with the treasure in hand.
"I actually don't know when Eddie's birthday is... He never told me..." (y/n) realises this, trying to remember if there was a moment between them where he might have told her but he never did! She would've noted it down in her calendar like she did with all her friend's birthdays! She couldn't be trusted to just remember them from the top of her head.
"Really? Like not once?" Nancy asks in confusion, the girls heading to (y/n)'s car to drop the items in the trunk.
"No. He never brought it up!" She says, closing the trunk when she notices a pay phone booth. "Wait, I'm going to give his uncle a call." Wheeler nods and lets her friend go to the pay phone booth, slipping in some coins and typing in her boyfriend's number she had memorised by heart.
The phone rings a couple of times until the call was answered. "Hello?"
"Mr. Munson! When's Eddie's birthday!?" The man jumps slightly at the sudden question, hearing the urgency in (y/n)'s voice.
"It's today-shit!" He accidentally slips up, cursing loudly when he had promised his nephew to not tell his birthday to anyone. "(Y/n) don't-!"
"Thanks Mr. Munson!"
"Wait kid-!" The phone call cuts and he sighs, rubbing his head nervously about what might happen today.
(Y/n) puts the phone back, thinking over the news that Eddie's birthday was actually today. Her brows furrowed as to why her boyfriend never told her, never even hinted at it and she frowns lightly that it might be the same reason why she never told anyone her birthday either. She walked back to Nancy who stood up straight, waiting for the news.
"Well?"
"His birthday was gone a couple months ago. I might surprise him with the collection next year or for Christmas." She nods at (y/n)'s lie, her deciding to keep her boyfriend's birthday a secret out of respect for his decision.
"Should we get going?"
"Yeah, we can get Robins lunch at a local market or something. I need to do some grocery shopping too."
"The life of an adult truly sucks." Nancy chuckles as the girls get in her friend's car, (y/n) driving them to a grocery shop. She parked and they got out, walking into the shop as Nancy went to buy Robin some lunch and (y/n) went to buy some groceries and the ingredients to bake a cake. They bought the items and went back into the car, gently setting the food in the back seat before buckling up and driving to the video store.
"Hey Pigeon!" (Y/n) calls out as she and Nancy walked into the store after parking the car, the latter holding the employee's lunch as she sighed in annoyance at her nickname.
"You're never gonna let me live that down are you?"
"Nope!" (Y/n) chuckles lightly, handing over the movies she had rented to Robin from her shoulder bag as she did her job with them and Nancy passed her lunch to her.
"Thanks for the lunch guys. Once I finally get paid, I'm taking you, girls, for some ice cream." She snorts sarcastically knowing she doesn't get paid shit for this job. "What movies are you looking to rent now (y/n)?"
"Actually, I was hoping you could recommend me some that Eddie might like?"
"Munson? You want to get movies that Munson likes?" Steve calls out when he jumps up from behind the counter, almost scaring the girls. "Why? You both have completely different movie tastes."
"I want to have a movie marathon with him, and for your information Steve, I can learn to like different things that my boyfriend likes." (Y/n) quips and the boy puts his hands up in defence.
"Ok, ok. Buckley, you can handle this."
"Right like you always put off the work on me so you can go fix your hair!" Robin yells out as Steve goes to freshen up or something in the back rooms. "I'll get those movies for you ladies." She says, leading the girls to the movie aisles and handpicking films she figured Eddie would like, handing them to (y/n). As soon as a pile of movies towered over the poor girl, that's when Robin decided it was enough as she brought the girls over to ring up the rental movies.
"Thank you, Robin! Bye Steve!" (Y/n) calls out as she and Nancy carried out the movies to the formers car, dumping them in the back seats before the girls buckled up again at the front to drive away.
"Thanks for dropping me off (y/n)." Nancy smiles as she got out of the car when her friend parked in front of her house and grabbed her shopping from the back. "Good luck with the movies and the gift!" She calls out as she went over to her front door, waving goodbye to (y/n) as she drove away to Eddie's trailer. She zooms through the trailer park, stopping abruptly in front of the trailer as Wayne jumped away from almost being run over.
"Hi Mr. Munson! Is Eddie home!?" (Y/n) blurts out quickly as she stuck her head out, the old man blinking at her in shock before shaking his head no slowly.
"He's having a campaign at the moment. Or was that brand practice? I can't remember what the boy said but he's coming home later tonight. Why?" (Y/n) doesn't say anything as she parks her car before jumping out to grab all the movies and groceries that she had bought. "(Y/n)!" Wayne gasps, helping the girl as they both ended up carrying bags of food into the trailer. "What is all this!?"
"Movies, snacks, cake ingredients and I also got you both groceries for the next couple weeks. Thought you guys might need a stock up other than beer and cigarettes." The man watches with wide eyes as this girl simply walked into their house and bought them groceries, filling up the empty cupboards and the fridge with much-needed food. He held back his tears, seeing this amount of food being bought just for him and his nephew, to be taken care of by this girl that he had just known for almost half a year.
His appreciation was choked in his chest as he helped her put away the rest of the food. "God when was it the last time I had actual fruit and vegetables..." he chuckles lightly, already coming up with different meals he was excited to make. Taking care of Eddie since he was little made him learn how to cook and he didn't want to brag but, he was kinda a master chef really. He just never had the time or money to buy the ingredients. "What's this?" Wayne nods to the strange-looking box filled with books sitting on the coffee table.
"I got Eddie a gift! For his birthday! But I promise you I didn't tell anyone else. I think I know why he didn't tell me..." the man frowns, nodding. "I'm going to go hide this in his room!" (Y/n) quickly says as she grabs the gift and runs to Eddie's bedroom, gently hiding it under his bed before grabbing her boyfriend a change of clothes for him when he comes back because she didn't want him finding it when he went to his room.
She sets the clothes on the bathroom counter before running out and into the kitchen to set everything up, putting the movies away next to the tv. Wayne watched as (y/n) ran around his home with unbridled excitement and slight anxiousness, muttering about where everything should go and what she should do before Eddie comes back and he knew his nephew was in safe hands for the future.
"I'm going out kid, stay safe and you both enjoy your night ok."
"Ok! I'll make some food for you when you come back!" (Y/n) calls out, the man chuckling as he left the trailer to get into the van to head to work. The girl standing in the trailer decided to take her jumper off, rubbing her hands and deciding what she should make for dinner.
