Under The Mistletoe [24]

"Draco, where are we even going?" Harry questioned, still getting dragged along by the suddenly excited Slytherin boy.

"We're here." Draco spoke, letting go of Harry's wrist. Seeing where they were, the smile then slipped right off of Draco's face, as old memories seemed to come flooding back. He wanted to come up here, up the astronomy tower, to maybe just lean on the railing, look at the scenery and just talk for hours. Draco wanted to move forward past everything with Harry, even if this place reminded him of the scarring death of their headmaster.

"Why did you bring me up here?" Harry murmured, frowning as he saw Draco walk towards the railing, leaning his forearms onto it as he clasped his hands together into one big fist. Hesitant at first, Harry stayed right where he was. But then, with a sigh, Harry walked up, standing beside the blonde boy as he also pressed his weight into the bar, looking down at the world below.

"I can't believe how long it's been already." Draco whispered, his grey eyes full of sadness.

"Well, it's only been like four years." Harry pointed out. "But yeah, it sure has been awhile, since..." He trailed off.

"I really wish I could turn back time, Harry. To stop all that from happening..."

"I bet you do..." Harry replied. "But, it's all in the past now I guess, so... You know." Harry managed a small smile. "I think Dumbledore would have been proud to see you change."

Clasping his hands even tighter together, Draco was trying to resist the urge to start crying, as all those old, raw emotions were coming back. Harry turned towards him, a little surprised to see Draco burst into tears. It was then that Draco suddenly stepped away from the railing, and before Harry had the chance to say a single thing, the sobbing boy threw his arms around the Gryffindor in a close embrace.

"I'm sorry, Harry... I'm so sorry..."

"H-Hey..." Harry stuttered, grinning and then putting his arms around Draco to return the hug. "It's okay. It's all going to be okay."

"How is it, though? Your stupid friends won't accept me in a million years. My friends would laugh at me if they heard I was friends with you and... I don't know what my father would say."

"That's your problem. You always worry about what everyone else thinks. Just relax a little." Harry said, trying to reassure him. He waited for an answer from Draco, but was surprised when he didn't get one. Instead, he could feel Draco's fingers dig into his robe as his grey coloured eyes were shut tight.

"Draco?"

How much longer could he take this? He could not tell. Harry was too damn nice to him, after everything that he had done! It didn't help that Draco felt like he crazily cared about the boy from Gryffindor and just having him here, trying to make him feel better... It didn't tone down his feelings any less. Why did he have to suffer, just because Harry and Ginny were together? She wasn't even anyone interesting! Just a boring, Weasley girl who literally started dating Harry for his fame! Nothing more! Everyone else may have believed they were truly in love, but Draco could glare right through her fake love for "the Chosen One".

"God damn it..." Draco sighed, letting go of Harry as he covered his eyes with his hand. "Potter, I don't know how much more of this I can take..."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"I mean I..." He trailed off.

"Don't get in the way of Harry or Ginny, otherwise I'll make sure it's fixed!" Hermione's voice echoed in his head. He narrowed his eyes, imagining she was there, trying to stop him from saying what was on his mind.

Screw that!

"For God sake, Potter..." Draco started. "I... I care about you..."

Dead. Silence. Confused, Harry did not say a word, not really even knowing what to say to that. Instead, he just let out a sound of nervous laughter, as he readjusted his glasses on his nose. He opened his mouth, no sound came out so he firmly shut it. Again, he went to speak, only going into a stutter.

"W-what? E-Eheh... You... You mean y-you care, r-right, like a friend?" Harry stammered, his brow frowning in confusion as he tried to search for the right words to say. However, the sullen expression and the nonexistence of words from Draco, only threw what he had really meant, right into Harry's face.

"D-Draco... I... I didn't know you--" He paused. "I mean... I... I have a girlfriend! I'm with Ginny!" Harry cried.

"Yeah, I thought you'd say that." Draco sighed, looking away from Harry as his eyes went back to the world before them. "I just felt it was best that you knew. I've liked you for months now. And it's just been irritating the hell out of me not to say anything! Especially cause of Granger."

"Hermione? She knew?"

"Yep, but she told me never to say anything to you because she didn't want me messing with your relationship... But I just didn't want to keep it to myself anymore... So, sorry..." Draco apologised, grimly as he exhaled once more. Harry managed a small smile, staring at the scenery as he let out a chuckle.

"I had wondered why you were suddenly so nice to the 'Chosen one'!" Harry laughed, earning a pout and a small nudge of annoyance from Draco.

"It wasn't like that at all... I mean... I actually wanted to be your friend... If I had known I'd feel this way about you, I'd gladly turn my back."

"Why?"

"Because you're with Ginny. And I'm forced to suffer, watching you two act all lovey dovey, even though she probably just wants to be with you for the fact that you are 'famous'."

"I'm sure that's not true..."

"Oh yeah? If you weren't Harry Potter, do you think she'd be dating you now?" Draco wondered, looking a tad smug, as if he totally knew what he was talking about.

"Oh. And like you would like me if I weren't Harry Potter?" Harry smirked as Draco rolled his eyes.

"Don't be an idiot, Potter. You know I've never cared for the fact that you're seen as 'the boy who lived' or whatever. You're just another wizard, like the rest of us. I started liking you for you, not for your stupid fame." Draco spoke. Sighing, he rest his chin on his forearms as he leaned against the railing once more. The two went silent, as they wondered among their thoughts.

Standing upright, Draco's eyes trailed above him, as he caught the sight of something that seemed to be growing, a plant. But then, the realisation hit him that it wasn't just some normal plant, and instead it was a mistletoe plant, growing right in time for Christmas. Dropping his eyes to the floor, he bit down on his lip and furrowed his brow as he began to feel his cheeks burn as his crush stood, completely oblivious still staring off in front of him.

Should he point it out? Do nothing? Just keep quiet? Do something? These were all the thoughts that began spinning around the inside of his head, as he wondered how to act. He wanted this Christmas to be nice, memorable... Rather than it being like any other year where he would have spent his time feeling depressed and sorry for himself. What was Harry thinking right now? Did he not like that Draco had feelings for him? More importantly, was he even into guys?

Don't be stupid... He's with Ginny.

Who cares? She didn't care enough to spend Christmas with him, knowing he could have been spending it alone. I was actually here for him, unlike her and his other friends.

It was decided. With a lot of hesitation, and the feeling of butterflies in his stomach, Draco bit down on the inside of his cheek as he casually moved his hand across the railing, going to put his own on top of Harry's. Not expecting the contact, Harry flinched, looking at Draco with a look of bewilderment, clearly wondering what he was up to.

Not saying another word, Draco turned towards him, looking him dead in the eyes as he thought about whether or not to make another move. All the boy with the glasses did was stare back at him in complete silence, actually looking like he had a hint of red across his cheeks. Draco then took a step forward, going to lean towards Harry, but Harry leaned back, avoiding his eye contact as he looked like a deer caught in headlights.

"Draco..." Harry muttered, his green orbs glancing back over towards him. "Look, you're a great guy, you really, really are... But like I said... I'm with Ginny... I couldn't ever do that to her." He finished, as Draco stepped back, clearly looking disappointed.

"Right, sure." Draco croaked, shaking his head in embarrassment. "Because Ginny is clearly the right person for you, huh?"

"Well, I..." Harry trailed off. "Don't get me wrong... Becoming friends with you, it's been a blast. I don't regret it at all. I think you're a great person. You're not as bad as I thought you were, and I think you can be a really great person for conversation and it's like you actually want to listen to what I tell you... Like you actually... Really care..." Harry finished, going quiet. Both boys just stared at each other again, once again not saying anything.

Narrowing his eyes, Draco decided that he would go in for the kill. Firmly taking a step forward, Draco brought his hand up, putting it behind Harry's neck and smashing his lips to his own, before he could protest. He felt his cheeks go a brighter red than they already were, as his eyes fluttered closed. Harry's eyes were wide with complete shock, as he had not expected for Draco to even make such a move. However, he didn't even squirm or fight back. Instead, he kind of just accepted it. It wasn't long before he had actually taken Draco, pulling him into his own arms, as his eyes also shut closed.

Draco surely couldn't have asked for a better Christmas, being able to kiss his crush underneath a mistletoe, with the moonlight beaming down on them from the sky. It was definitely going to be a year that he'd remember for a long, long time.
