One Chance [28]
Harry and Ronald's friends were all sick of the two acting like complete children over the whole thing that happened with Ginny. Ron was totally dragging it out longer than it needed to be dragged out, and Harry was seeming to refuse to talk to Ron with how much he had been "a git" by Harry's choice of words. Since Harry had broken up with her, Ginny had calmed down some, knowing that she had to move on from Harry. The boy loved Draco after all, and she couldn't let her heart remain broken over the break up. Neither did she want her and Harry's break up to get in between two good friends.
So, that is why Harry and Ron were brought together with extreme uncomfortable silence, sitting in the Gryffindor common room, avoiding all eye contact. And Ginny was there with them too - as she felt like she had to be the one to fix the feud between the two. She sighed, breaking the uncomfortable silence that had been sitting in the air for quite some time. "Honestly, boys... This whole thing has gone on enough."
"What are you talking about, Ginny? I'm only just standing up for you against someone who is really nothing more than a bloody rotten friend! He hurt you!" Ronald instantly fired up, which only caused Harry to glare at the ginger Weasley from behind his glasses. But before the boy who lived could make any kind of negative remark towards the angry brother, Ginny answered.
"I don't need you sticking up for me, Ron..."
"But I'm your big brother, of course I'm supposed to stick up for you!"
"Not like this you're not. This is your own best friend, it's Harry." Ginny sadly smiled. "You shouldn't act so harshly towards him for such things."
"But he broke your heart... All for... For Malfoy..." Ron spoke to her, glancing towards Harry who was beginning to frown. "How can you find that okay?"
"Because, you can't force people to love each other, Ronald." Hermione spoke from the doorway, catching everyone by surprise. They hadn't noticed that she was listening in on the conversation, and it was almost like she had just appeared out of thin air. "If Ginny says she is okay, then she is okay... You don't need to stay angry for her, when she isn't angry about it anymore. Harry never meant to purposely hurt Ginny. His heart is now just in a different place, and we all have to accept that." She said, causing the three of them to glance towards Harry.
"...You must have a bloody good reason for falling for that Slytherin." Ron spoke, in more of a joking tone than it were a harsh one. And upon noticing that Ron sounded like he was being less harsh, Harry managed a small smile. But then he went straight faced, wondering just how to explain it.
"I don't... I don't really know how it happened." Harry admitted. "We just... Started spending more time together, that's all. And then we became friends instead of enemies, and well, he one day admitted his feelings to me, and I realised eventually that I felt the same..." He admitted, looking towards Ginny. "I'm... I'm sorry that I broke your heart, Ginny. I never meant to hurt you as badly as I did. And I never meant to anger anyone... I thought it would have been better if I just told you the truth, rather than lying to you and acting as if I still... Had feelings for you when I didn't."
If anything, the raven haired boy was worried he'd get a sad response from Ginny, only to be shocked when she told him she appreciated his honesty. It was just hard for her not to get upset, because she did care a lot about Harry... But like Hermione had mentioned, you couldn't force people to fall in love with certain people. If Harry was in love with Draco, he had to have been for a good reason. Maybe that Slitherin had a softer side to him that perhaps only Harry really knew about.
"Can you... Can you guys just try to be a little more accepting of him?" Harry wondered. "Because I feel like one of the reasons he acts out towards you guys is because you don't give him a chance."
"He doesn't give us a chance." Ronald argued, which Harry had to admit was a good point.
"Yes, I know... And I've spoken to him about it, to try and get him to cooperate more. But you guys... I really, really do like him... And you guys are my best friends - I don't want to lose any of you over something like a relationship. I don't want to lose anyone."
Again, for about a good twenty seconds, it felt silent among the group. Harry could see Ronald, Ginny and Hermione all giving each other glances, as if they could read each other's thoughts from just their expressions alone. He could tell for a definite fact that Ron and Hermione were still unsure about Draco, and he was ready to snap in frustration, wishing that they could be more supportive for him. He didn't want to break up with Draco, but then he didn't want to lose people who were so precious to him. What was he supposed to do?!
"I'm willing to give him a chance." Ginny admitted, which made Harry smile widely, as her answer appeared genuine. She even managed a small smile of her own. It made her sad that she wasn't able to keep Harry as her own, that she wasn't able to be his girlfriend anymore. But she couldn't force Harry to love her. And she knew that the raven haired boy had no ill intentions when he broke up with her. It was just her fault for being so, so upset over it when he had been so nice, and it was Ron's fault for blowing the whole thing out of proportion. Eventually, Ron sighed.
"Well... If my sister is happy with it... I guess I can give him a chance. But only one. It's up to him whether or not he wants to mess that up." Ron growled.
"That's fine. One chance is better than nothing." Harry told him, before all eyes fell to Hermione. "Hermione?"
Like her boyfriend, she let out a small exhale of breath. He knew it was likely hard for her to accept Draco, with all the times he'd pick on her and call her a filthy mudblood. "For you, Harry, as you're our best friend... We can give him a chance."
"There you go. Look at all of you making up." Both the twins spoke in unison, deciding to join in on the conversation, which made their brother roll his eyes while the others smiled and laughed a little.
"How long have you been listening? This has nothing to do with you." Ron spoke.
"Oh, I beg to differ mate." Fred said, which earned an eye roll from the younger Weasley. They were the first two to know about Harry and Draco out of all of them. Not to mention they had witnessed one of the arguments between Draco, Harry and Ron. So, how did it not involve them? "But don't worry Harry, we're not judging you either."
"We still think you could have better taste." George joked.
"But for you, we will be supportive." Hermione finished for them, not wanting this conversation to be filled with nothing but immaturity and silly jokes. Again, Harry found it hard not to pull his lips into a smile, feeling so relieved that the people he cared about so dearly were going to remain at his side.
"Thanks guys..."
