You Were Mine

Gracie sat beside Yoongi, nervously clicking her thumbnail and forefinger. She glanced at the big round clock on the wall in front of them. They arrived thirty minutes early, probably should have come later. The anticipation ate at her, raising her anxiety.

Meanwhile Yoongi sat stoic next to her. If she didn't know any better she would have thought he was a statue. He still had the dark circles underneath his dark eyes.

"Yoongi." Gracie whispered, trying to get his attention. He jerked his head in her direction with confusion.

"What?"

"You okay?"

"I just want answers."

She knew that. He'd poured through countless research studies and even switched his career focus to neuroscience. He'd even convinced himself that there was such a thing as an alternate reality.

Gracie also found herself thinking the same thing at one point. Until she realized what had happened. When she talked to Yoongi about it he had waved her off. Like that couldn't be the reason. It wouldn't explain why Jimin was the way he was.

Does it explain it?

All of his scans came back normal. Their hope laid in the hands of a vengeful woman. Who would willingly take the life of someone she was supposed to love. So that no one could have him.

Penelope.

Someone Gracie thought she knew better than anyone.

Turns out... she didn't know her twin sister at all.

"Hopefully we can get some answers for you today."

He nodded, his eyes drifting towards a door opening down the hall. An officer stepped out with a folder and a scowl.

"Y/N Lee!" The officer beckoned.

Gracie stood, cringing at the sound of her given name. Yoongi smirked, following her lead down the hallway.

"And guest?" The officer sized Yoongi up, then looked at the sheet in front of his folder.

"Min Yoongi?"

"Yes." Yoongi shifted nervously from one foot to the other.

"Well alright. If you could empty your pockets. No sharp objects, weapons, anything that could potentially harm you or the prisoner.

They both emptied their pockets, placing them in the bin just inside the doorway. The officer picked up the bin sliding across the desk to the clerk.

She pursed her lips, looking up at us.

"Stan, they don't need to give me this stuff."

"It's in the rules, Tia." Grumbled the officer, rolling his eyes. Tia sucked her teeth, turning to Yoongi and Gracie with a smile.

"You'll get these back when you come out."

They simply nodded, following officer Stan to a closed door.

"She is cuffed to the table. So... you guys are safe."

Inside the room felt cold. Frigid like the woman sitting down with her wavy hair falling in her face. She didn't look up when they walked in.

"Penelope?" Gracie asked, the chair scraping across the floor so she could sit down. Yoongi stood in the farthest corner away from them both. He wanted answers, however he didn't want to be close to the vile woman.

Hell, he didn't even want Gracie near her.

Penelope jerked her head, making her hair flip out of her face. Her eyes were full of hatred, staring at Gracie.

"Oh if it isn't my wonderful sister." She snarled.

"Penelope, really?"

"What? What do you want from me? You want me to be happy to see you, when you and that bastard are the ones who put me here?" Penelope glared at Yoongi who returned the look, folding his arms across his chest.

"What is he now, your bodyguard? Oh! Is he trying to steal you from your Prince Charming?" Penelope prattled on with a sneer.

Gracie smacked the table, bringing Penelope's attention back to her.

"Stop it." She hissed, leaning forward.

"I'm not here to listen to you talk shit about my friends or my boyfriend."

Penelope smirked, leaning back into her chair. Her wrists resting on the table within the cuffs.

"Oh, so he's your boyfriend now. Have you fucked him yet? Probably should. He won't stay interested long."

"Bitch." Growled Yoongi, taking a step towards the table.

"You do realize that it was me that  he remembered from his coma. Right? He came to me. Once again someone steals someone from me. Although, I didn't want him." Penelope shrugged.

"That's a lie." Gracie felt the doubt sinking in. What if what she said were true. It couldn't be though. Penelope started dating Namjoon. So how could that make sense?

Yoongi came and stood behind Gracie, his hand resting on her shoulders, giving her a reassuring squeeze.

"No, you're right. I don't go for sleeping men." Penelope glanced at Yoongi.

"I go for the lively ones."

"He's not himself anymore because of you!" Yoongi snapped. His hands gripping Gracie's shoulders a little tighter, making her wince.

"Aw... you poor baby." Penelope made her face into a pout.

"Penelope, stop." Mumbled Gracie.

"Why are you here?"

"We have questions."

Penelope looked from one to the other then pursed her lips.

"Well?"

"What did you do to Jimin?" Yoongi blurted out unable to hold it in any longer. He felt Gracie's hand on his. Penelope watched them, her eyes narrowing.

"I only told him the truth."

"What did you say?"

"Three words. Quite simple really."

"You love him?" Gracie questioned.

Penelope shook her head. Yoongi's heart pounded against his chest in anticipation for what it could be. What did she say that broke him. How did it break Jimin?

"What did you fucking say?"

Penelope looked Yoongi dead in the eyes and said.

"You Were Mine."

The door opened to the room. Officer Stan stepped in.

"Times up."

Yoongi huffed, letting go of Gracie's shoulders and practically ran from the room.

"Gracie." Penelope called to her just as she reached the door. Gracie turned to look back at her.

"Jimin is sick. He has a disorder. It's in his files. Sure I said three words and yes I tried to kill him because I didn't want to lose him to someone else. But I do love him still. How he is now is not treatable. You can't fix a broken mind like his. It's not as simple as your boyfriend or Hoseok's. It's not."

"How come Yoongi doesn't know about it?" Gracie raised her eyebrow.

"He does know. He's got all his records. He has to know. Gracie— it could have been anything I said to him at that moment."

"Times up—" Officer Stan pushed Gracie out the door.

"Check his charts!! I'm telling you the truth!" Penelope yelled.

Outside in the hallway, Gracie caught her breath. Why couldn't she tell her that when Yoongi was there?

None of this makes sense.

Gracie collected her things at the front desk, asking the clerk if Yoongi had left already. When she got out into the hallway he was sitting with his head in his hands.

"This is my fault." He sobbed.

"I could have let him go... I should have let him go."

"Yoongi—"

She crouched down in front of him, taking his hands from his face to look at him.

"This isn't your fault."

"It is— if I hadn't been trying to be in every moment of his life he'd still be himself. He'd be married to your sister and I could still see him from time to time. Like he used to be."

"Yoongi—"

His lower lip quivered, his red rimmed eyes meeting hers. The pain encased in them tore at her heart.

"I should have let him go."

Gracie shook her head, her hand on his cheek wiping away a tear with her thumb.

"No— you held onto him and you are still holding on. Yoongi it could have been anyone."

"What?" He sniffled.

"If you weren't the one wanting to hang out with him. It could have been someone else who made her do what she did."

"I shouldn't have let him believe we were together when he woke up."

"You didn't know that that would happen. In a way you were protecting him from Penelope."

"She got to him."

Gracie sighed, staring at her hurting friend. What kind of brain condition would cause someone to just shut down like Jimin did? Could it have been what she said? Did it release all the memories of Jimin's relationship with her sister causing his brain to malfunction or fracture?

"Yoongi—"

He looked at her, the tears still falling from his dark eyes.

"I— I just want him back."

"What if what she said caused his brain to drop all the memories on him at once. Is that possible?"

His eyes darted back and forth like he was reading an invisible text. Suddenly he locked eyes with her.

"Is it?" She asked again.

"I need to get to the dream scope."
