Admirer of the Arts
"Welcome Min to dreaming of good days." Gracie smiled brightly up at Jin. Her play on words always brings a smile to his face. He needed that these days. Everyone else would always nag him about medicines or suggest different doctors.
"He'll see you now, Mr. Kim."
"Jin..." He told her, Gracie just smiled at him as he walked through the door to Dr. Min's office. Inside the doctor stood at the window, gazing out into the bustling streets below. He didn't even acknowledge when Jin sat down. He just kept staring in a hypnotized silence.
"Dr. Min?" Jin queried. The doctor's head jerked up, then turned slowly as if in a daze to look at Jin.
"Ah... I see you have found me daydreaming." Dr. Min blinked several times, before he sat down. He certainly was a peculiar man.
Jin sat quietly, while Dr. Min mosied about his desk drawers until he found a tattered green notebook. On the cover of that book was the name, Jung Hoseok.
"My name is Kim Seokjin." Jin wanted to clarify. He didn't need his thoughts or whatever confused with someone else's.
"Jin. I know who you are. Please, call me Yoongi. Also this notebook contains the dreams and recollections of a dear friend of mine. He too woke from a coma with similar symptoms and similarities such as yourself."
Jin stared at the green notebook, wondering what could possibly be written within the pages. Yoongi placed it on his desk and smiled at Jin.
"Now, I have a question for you."He paused for a moment. "Do you dream when you sleep or is it black?"
"It's black... I see nothing."
Yoongi frowned, his fingers tapping the notebook in contemplation. What could it possibly mean?
"Tell me... do you know Gracie?"
"No?"
"Not at all?"
"No... why?"
"Hmmm... but you know me. In a different persona?"
"Yes."
"Does the name Jung Hoseok ring a bell?"
Jin knitted his brows. He had never heard the name before. "No."
"Interesting."
"What's interesting? You are being very vague." Jin asked, slightly agitated.
"Hoseok knows you."
"How?"
Yoongi opened the notebook, sliding it across the desk.
"Read this."
Skeptically Jin picked up the notebook, staring at the cursive handwriting on the page. When he read the words it was as if he was in one of his own memories.
Y/N's first artwork exhibit. Except this told it in another person's point of view. Someone else saw the beauty in each brush stroke she had made upon her canvases. They admired her work and felt the need to buy each piece. Jin remembered the anonymous buyer. How extremely happy the person had made Y/N. How much he wanted to thank them for the smile they brought to her face and the encouragement it gave her to continue.
Jin smiled, remembering how excited she got when the host came and told her. Y/N didn't care about the money. She only cared that someone loved her work enough to take it home.
That night they celebrated at the Lounge on Blithe Street. A place they seemed to frequent often.
He stared down at the words. This guy apparently brought all Y/N's work home. Only to hang them in his dance studio. The pieces giving him inspiration that would bring about his greatest accomplishment. One that never happened.
"A great accomplishment that never happened?" Jin questioned, looking up at Yoongi. The doctor folded his hands under his chin before he spoke.
"Much like your proposal. In some ways like the song I played a few nights ago that you remembered."
"Oh... how does this help me?" The question sounded stupid once he said it. Knowing there was someone else with a similar situation was comforting. However, presently he wasn't seeing how it would help.
"Do you believe in alternate realities, Jin?"
"Are you being serious?"
"Quite." Yoongi's unerring tone made Jin uncomfortable.
"I'm more of a practical person."
"Which makes you a conundrum in this line of work."
"How?"
Yoongi pulled out a file, searching through it for an article.
"Here."
Jin took the paper, reading through the scribbling of what appeared to be a mad scientist. There's no such thing as alternate realities. It doesn't fit anything with the lines of nature. There's one reality and they were living in it now.
"Sure this guy wasn't a mental patient? His thesis seems flawed at best." Jin tried to joke, only to feel the mood go sour in the room.
"He is a great scientist." Mumbled the doctor. A light tap sounded on the door.
"Come in." Yoongi called out. Slowly the door cracked open, Gracie smiled timidly from the other side.
"You have a phone call."
"I'll call them back."
Gracie shook her head.
"It's Jimin, sir."
Yoongi jumped out of his chair, stopping just short of the door.
"Uh... I'm going to have to reschedule you."
Gracie smiled sympathetically at Jin. He gave her a wry smile. Turning back towards the desk, staring at the tattered green notebook. His curiosity getting the best of him.
Since the doctor needed to reschedule. Jin would take that time to do some more light reading. Perhaps give himself some piece of mind and further assure himself that there was no such thing as alternate realities.
Jin swiftly rushed out the door, waving goodbye to Gracie who tried to stop him. Meanwhile Dr. Min was hunched over whispering into the landline to whomever had called him.
Outside the cool air stung his face, running until his lungs burned. Jin hunched over breathing heavily, staring at the green book he swiped from the office.
"Jin?"
Quickly he hid the book behind his back, looking up to see Gracie.
"Why did you run?"
"Heh..."
"That book is another patient's property."
Jin stared at Gracie for a minute still trying to catch his breath. Whereas this girl didn't even seem to have labored breathing.
"How are you not out of breath?" Jin asked, she smiled at him.
"I run every morning before work. It's a great way to clear my head and energize my body."
"Right... I'd just want to go back to bed." He chuckled, standing up. He glanced down at the book in his hand, before reluctantly handing it Gracie.
"Thank you. Doctor, Patient confidentiality."
"I just wanted answers." Jin sighed. Although he was somewhat confused, considering Yoongi let him read some of it already.
"Within the walls of the office only."
"What?"
"You can read this there. Yoongi doesn't want this getting into the wrong hands."
Again Jin found himself confused.
"Wrong hands?"
Gracie sucked in a breath. "I've said too much."
Jin stood there watching her run off back towards the office. Meanwhile realizing he ran in the opposite direction of his car. He groaned, slumping his shoulders. That's when someone caught his eye in the coffee shop window beside him.
Namjoon. He was holding hands with a girl who's back faced the window.
"What the hell?"
