VII - Crushiss and Clawnfessions
Oh.
OH.
Well that- That would explain why Kaito wouldn't tell him who his true love was.
There was a poof of smoke and instead of a cat, human Kaito was leaning over him with a furious blush. "Sorry..." the magician murmured, perhaps quieter than he intended.
"Hmf." Saguru tilted his head. "I suppose I should be grateful you're wearing clothes..."
Kaito snorted. "Way to ruin the mood."
The detective shrugged, smirking playfully. "It's what I do best."
After a moment of awkward silence, Kaito spoke again. "So... you named your cat after me?"
Saguru growled and shoved Kaito off of him, the magician hitting the ground with a thud. "You deserve that."
Kaito groaned. "Probably." Kaito sat up, leaning with his arms stretched behind him. "You aren't going to ask why she cursed me?"
"I assumed it had something to do with KID."
Kaito hummed. "Thank you."
The detective nodded in response, slipping out of the chair and onto the floor beside Kaito. "I think," he said, "We have quite a bit to talk about."
"I- Well... Yeah." Pause. Then, "Will you be my boyfriend?"
Saguru was expecting the question, but it still sent him silent. He could feel himself blushing as he looked away from the thief. "Y- yeah," he finally whispered.
Kaito frowned. "You don't have to if you don't want to."
Saguru paused, then he tucked his knees to his chest and returned his gaze to Kaito. "Thank you. I-" he stopped, "I like you Kaito. I really do. But..." He fell silent as he racked his brain, searching for the right words.
"You don't want to--or rather, can't--date a wanted criminal."
"No! It's not that--well, it's partially that--but still-" Saguru stuttered, then continued in a softer voice. "Up until just now, I'd never seriously considered dating you. I can't say I haven't thought about it, but with our difference in lifestyle... I never thought you'd consider dating me."
"So that's a no."
"It's a 'Let me get used to the idea'," Saguru corrected, "And if you're still interested when I'm ready, we'll date."
Kaito nodded. "Thank you," he said, "For even giving me a chance. I'm probably not the easiest person to be around."
"Definitely not," Saguru said, "But I'll try."
Kaito smiled. "Thanks."
"But for now..." Saguru smirked wickedly, "I think we should have a very civil conversation with Akako."

Saguru leaned down to press a kiss on Kaito's cheek. Akako let out an annoyed sigh. "I can't believe it took you two so long to start dating."
"Two months is not forever," Saguru shot back, "And besides, I don't see you confessing to your crush."
A slight blush came to the witch's face as she let out a huff. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Kaito snickered. "Sure, sure."
"You know, I don't think Aoko would reject you," Saguru said.
"You shouldn't get involved in someone else's love life," Akako huffed back.
Saguru raised an eyebrow. "Akako--"
"Not a word."
Saguru laughed. Had it really been four months since the whole curse fiasco? He couldn't say he regretted it(Kaito made for a good boyfriend, despite... well, everything about him), though he'd never admit that to Akako.
And aside from that, things were going well. It was quite entertaining to go to KID's heists now that he didn't plan to catch the thief--he could actually pay attention to the magic. He had to admit Kaito was a good magician.
In any case, things were going quite well. As well as they could with Kaito, anyway. And he wouldn't change that for the world.
Or, maybe I would, he thought as he watched Kaito almost set the lake on fiRE KAITO HOW???
