Chapter 56- Tests
-Pete's POV-
When they took Preston away, I lost my mind. I actually lost it. With Preston gone, I have no one to protect me. The last time, Preston had been in the same cage as me, and when they tried to take me, he'd shield me, and keep them away. But then he'd left, and I'd been exposed.
In fear, I'd hidden in corners everyday, and refused to go into the open. It was terrifying when I was little. Now I'm a bit older, considering I'm 3 years younger than Preston- human age, and impossibly- 2 and a half in our shared aging time. creepers and slimes grow in the same time spaces, 6 years slower than humans. I'm threes a a half months old in our time, an insane number to humans, but 3 months for me, is about a year's time for humans. It's nuts, but... ya know. We slimes can be unpredictable.
A power I'd taken to my advantage. The humans dumped me from the cage into a glass container, and were surprise when I stuck to the one human's hand. I grabbed him, and didn't let go. I actually was stuck, so I couldn't let go if I wanted to. He panicked, and tried to shake me off, only to fail.
They pried me off after a few minutes, and the guy is been stuck to, his hand was all green from my hand. I was trapped in a small, glass case in a white room. A hole in the back wall opened, and a wolf flew in. The case I was in popped open, and exposed me to the enraged wolf. I ran into the corner.
The wolf caught sight of me scrambling away, and its expression softened. It tipped its head, and trotted over. It nuzzled me, and laid around me, with its tail wrapping me in the nook of its large body. It licked me, and rubbed its face on me. I settled into it, comforted, and promptly fell asleep there.
-Jerome's POV-
This is bullshit. I couldn't control myself, goddamnit. They only had to wave it in my face, and I couldn't think. Now I'm in a steel box- one with no light, and no ventilation either. But that changes when the door opens, and I run out. I'm now in an enclosed space. Basically a zoo animal enclosure.
"Haha very funny. Not about that life." But once again, they actively enraptured my attention into a rabbit they released in the enclosure. I was soon up in a tree, absently tearing the now-dead rabbit to pieces. But I instantly felt horrible. I thought about the rabbit I'd just killed, then I thought of Kara, upset.
I tossed what was left of the rabbit, and felt a sharp pain originate from my leg as I tried to stand on the tree branch. I looked down, and found a dart that I hadn't felt before. I pulled it out, and tossed it to my left. As it hit the wall, the wall shattered. It was thin glass, not a cement wall like I'd thought.
They stupidly let the glass be an inch thick instead of a foot or something. I probably could've smacked this wall, and it would collapse. But I stepped out into the main room, which was busy is ear-piercingly loud. There was one annoying sound I couldn't ignore though. It was a dog whistle, and as much as it hurt my soul to ignore it, I did.
A howl of a wolf or dog echoed through the room, and I raced in that direction. I found a bac instead. It was a young one, but it was behind too many bars to help. It once again, hurt my soul to ignore, but I had to.
I noticed a bunch of the enclosures I'd been in, and each has nothing in them. But as I look into one, something hits me from behind. A human, carrying nothing but the one thing I despised ignoring. A damn dog whistle. It was like an alpha's call. Impossible to ignore by accident, and commanding.
Humans can't hear it, but baccas, dogs, and wolves can all hear the wail of the whistle, and it's painfully high-pitched. I padded backwards, away from the whistle, glaring at it. He looked at his hand, and lifted the whistle, then looked at my reaction. As I normally would, I backed away, and lowered my head. He seemed to smile, and blew in it.
The sound split through my eardrums, and hurt my head terribly. The sound was unbearable, and the other humans managed to hold me in one spot at sword point. But I saw their one weakness versus my one advantage. One of them held an axe. I lunged, got a grip on the blade, and ripped it straight from his hand. He stared in fear, and the lines wavered.
I rolled the axe over my hand, and got a better grip when it came back into my palm. A lot of the humans backed away, unsure of how I knew how to use an axe. I swiped outward, and their lines loosened, then tightened up again. I was helplessly trapped in a circle of sword points. But I kept it up even though I was bound to lose this fight.
I finally went under the crowd, and was dragged, struggling, to a sealed chamber. It was still an enclosure, but it was sealed entirely. Light came from outside, but it was a foot thick piece of acrylic. Not even glass or plexiglas. Straight-up acrylic. Tough stuff.
(Little known fact: Acrylic is used to make fish tanks. XD)
I could see the moon high above, and feel incredible pain from being both out of the pocket unenchanted, and the ear splitting dog whistle. I could see the humans shuffle around on the other side of the thick acrylic wall, and enjoyed watching them. It was entertaining, just watching them rush about their environment. But my entertainment came to an ultimate end just as quickly as it began.
I saw a door open, and frost spill out onto the floor. But what I saw come from that door, made me angrier than I'd ever been in my life. It was Preston, in a glass trap, freezing ice cold and shivering. Now, he's lava, and if he's cold, it's bad.
-Preston's POV-
They finally took me out of the freezer, and put the box on a stand in the center of the room. It heated up the box a little, which helped me, but not enough to melt the ice on the outside of the glass box. I could just barely see Jerome in another cage, but it looked like a small forest stuffed in a box. An enclosure? Did they think Jerome was a zoo animal?
My warm skin finally melted the box, and I looked frantically for Brandon. I saw not a single trace of him anywhere. Jerome pounded on the transparent wall in front of him, but it just reverberated, freaking him out. I locked eyes with him. I mouthed, 'Where's Brandon?' And he shrugged. He didn't know.
Where the fudge was he? With Brandon MIA, I refused to leave. If I managed to escape, I'd never leave until I found Brandon. He's only 3 months old. He deserves so much more. But he's gotten the unlucky straw in the set. Of course, so did I, being only 2 in my own time. The oldest of us all is Jerome, being 60 years old already in his own time.
Jerome looked extremely upset, and threw his head to the side. He shook his head, and took his hand from the wall. I saw pain in his face when he looked up. He shook his head again and again. He finally leaned back, and stepped into the darkness of the enclosure.
A few humans rushed around my glass case, and others stopped to write on their boards. I just sat quietly and watched. The wall behind me disappeared, and I tumbled into open air. Behind me was another human, and he looped a rope around my neck. Why, don't ask me. I have no clue why they do anything.
I was half-choked and dragged to a new area of the building. Here, there were cameras and audio recorders everywhere. One the one screen, I saw Brandon, scared out of his mind in a room. A hand with a needle came onto the screen, and another hand seized Brandon's arm. The needle went in, and Brandon panicked to a high degree.
I struggled against the human holding me, but only managed to choke myself more. The screen had no audio, but I could see how he was probably screaming and crying. Tears streamed down the sides of his face, and his dark red beanie fell off his head.
The human kept me there, and made me watch Brandon struggle. I lifted my hands to pull the rope away, and was slapped. I muttered under my breath, "Rob? Help?" "What was that?"
I growled. "Nothing." "English, you damn thing." My temper boiled over and yelled angrily. "I'm not a thing! I'm a living creature that needs care too! Why do you treat us this way?!"
"You are a vile creature that deserves nothing. You should not exist on this plane of life. This one deserves less. He's fought with us since the moment he got here." "Of course he has! He's only three months old! I'm only two! Give us a break!" "I don't believe you." "Oh. You don't. Well, believe it or not, we are. We develop 6 times slower than humans like you. 6 times! I may have the vocabulary of an adult human, but I'm still only two years old inside." A tick. "And your language is very easy to pick up."
He stared at me in shock while I turned my attention back to the monitor in front of me. Brandon had settled, but he still rubbed his arm fearfully. He leaned down and picked his beanie back up, fixed his earpiece microphone, and pulled his beanie back over his head snugly. He glanced at the camera, void-like black eyes beady and glistening in the light.
I trained my eyes on him, and in the light of his eyes, I saw fear. True, deep fear. And he wasn't even looking at the monitor anymore. He was staring straight forward. Whatever was in front of him, was scaring him badly.
The screen cut out as a shadow was cast over Brandon. I jumped at the screen. "Where'd he go?! Bring him back. NOW." "I can't. I was only told to show you that excerpt from a few hours ago." "This isn't live feed?! What's going on?! Where is he?!" "I don't know! I'm not the technician or video editor. You on the other hand, need to be taken back. You're too curious and open."
He again, half-choked me, and dragged me back to the glass box. "PRESTON!" A voice screamed. I looked around, and saw Jerome, banging away on the transparent wall with his fist.
I swallowed hard as the box was sealed, and cut off sound again. The box was transferred back into the freezer room, and the process repeated. This is going to hurt Robby and Mitch. More so Brandon, Mat, and Kara. They've never been away from each other this long.
-A/N-
