Seperation

CHAPTER 46

I hear the door to my cell open in the morning and I see D.C Collins standing there. 'Did you want something?' I sarcastically ask.

'Are you going to tell me the truth? Because your friend already has.'

'The truth is that they're my drugs.'

'Are you sure about that?' He asks with a smirk over his face. I fold my arms and say 'Yes I'm sure.'

'Really sure?'

'What do you want?' I ask annoyed at his questions. He leans on the door and tilts his head to the side. 'Kiera, you seem like a great kid and from what I've heard you've already been accepted into the university here. You can't go there if you're stuck in here for something you haven't done now can you?' He asks softly as he walks inside the cell.

'Where have you heard that from?'

'That isn't relevant.'

'So what is?' I challenge.

'Take a look around you. Would you really want to stay in here? Look at this place Kiera. It's not fit for a child, it's where criminals are kept. You're not a criminal Kiera and you don't deserve to stay here.' I don't say anything as I palm my face with both of my hands. He sighs and sits down next to me. 'I thought one night in here would make you come to your senses. I know you're covering for Dan but I need you to admit it. And here you are, still loyal.'

'They're my drugs not Dan's!' I reply as his words repeat in my head.

'I didn't say they were. All I said was that I know you're covering for him but the fact that you have said that makes me question whether they really are your drugs.'

'You tricked me...Again,' I mumble quietly. He chuckles and looks at me.

'Kiera, I know those drugs don't belong to you. I know it and you know it.' I bury my face in my hands trying my best to ignore him. 'If you don't admit it then the chances of you escaping from this place will be unlikely.' He stands up and looks at me to say 'you're throwing your life away and for what? I hope you think this is worth it Kiera because now that you've made your decision, it's difficult to change it.'

'It is worth it,' I mutter and he replies by saying 'I'm glad you think that then.' He slowly turns around to walk away. He holds the handle of the door, ready to leave and I instantly say 'Wait!' He turns around and I sigh loudly as I put my hands in my hair.

'They're not mine,' I whisper afraid that I'm betraying Dan.

'I know,' he replies and sits back down next to me.

'How do you know that?'

'Dan came to admit that they were his and that he should never had let you take the blame.'

'Why didn't you just tell me that in the first place?' He shrugs his shoulders.

'I wanted to get it out of you and I did.'

'Mission accomplished,' I sarcastically reply.

'You're free to go Kiera.'

'Really?' I ask shocked and he nods. He stands up and I follow him to the reception area, getting my belongings back.

When I'm ready to leave I hear my name being called by a voice that makes me internally cringe. I bite my lower lip as I turn around to face Anna. 'Hi?' I say even though it comes out as a question.

'Are you being serious right now? The only thing you can say to me is "hi?" I'm disappointed in you Kiera.'

'What are you doing here?' I ask trying to change the topic.

'You are not in the place to be asking questions now let's go,' she replies a she walks out of the station and I have no choice but to follow her.

----------

The drive back to her house is awkward and silent. 'I'm not staying here.'

'You're in no fit state to be making decisions for yourself,' she replies as she turns the engine off.

'I seriously am not staying here.'

'Oh? So where are you going to stay? Back with Dan, the druggie of the whole neighbourhood?' She asks sarcastically.

'You don't even know him.'

'And you do?' She challenges causing me to scoff loudly. 'You're staying here Kiera, end of story,' she says when I keep quiet.

'My things are all at Dan's house.'

'I got William to go over and get your things for you so you don't have to back there.'

'Am I supposed to be grateful?' I sarcastically and she shakes her head at me, not bothering to reply. She motions towards the door and I ask 'what?'

'After you.'

'I'm not going to run away or anything.'

'I don't trust you Kiera because you broke the trust and it's going to take a lot to regain it.' I sigh loudly and walk in front of her. She unlocks the door and says 'go to your room.' I roll my eyes and quietly march up the stairs.

I walk into the personalised guest room and can’t help but feel awkward. I stand there in the middle of the room, not knowing what to do. 'Hey,' Lily says as she walks inside. I ignore her presence, not even looking at her. 'Are you going to ignore me then?'

'What do you want? Are you here to rub everything in my face or something?' I ask curiously and I fold my arms protectively over my chest as I turn to face her.

'How can you say something like that?'

'Are you really asking me that?' I ask and she scoffs.

'What is that supposed to mean?'

'You should know,' I mutter under my breath and she scoffs, not bothering to reply to my comment.

I look around the room and realise the brown box is in the corner. It then occurs to me that I left my mum's diary back at Dan's house. 'I left something at Dan's house.'

'My dad brought all your stuff here.'

'I left something under my pillow and he forget to bring it,' I explain quickly.

'If you're lying-'

'I'm not,' I reply cutting her off, annoyed that she doesn't believe me.

'Okay, I'll go and tell my parents,' she says as she leaves the room.

I sit down on the bed, putting my hands in my tangles hair. I can't help but feel drained, emotionally and physically. I stand up, grabbing a towel and some clothes before walking to the bathroom to take a shower.

----------

Once I come out of the shower dressed in a back hoodie and black leggings, I see Lily waiting for me, sitting on the bed with a plate of toast and glass of orange juice on the bedside table. 'They agreed for you to get it only if I come with you.'

'Great, lucky me,' I reply sarcastically and she rolls her eyes.

'My mum made you some breakfast.'

'I could have made my own,' I reply ungratefully as I check the watch on my wrist which reads 12:45. 'Can we just go?'

'You haven't even had breakfast yet,' she replies. I grab a toast and sip the orange juice before asking 'Can we go now?'

'Fine.' She rolls her eyes and I munch on the toast in my hands as we leave the house. 'So you're eating again?' Lily questions trying to start a conversation.

'You're not blind then,' I mumble and she scoffs.

'I'm glad you're eating again Kiera.'

'I am trying,' I reply honestly.

'I know and that's great,' she replies happily as she links her arm with mine. My body tenses and she breaks away from me and mutters 'too early for physical contact.'

'It’s fine,' I reply and she unconvincingly nods causing me to shake my head. I link my arm with hers 'I told you Lily its fine.' She smiles but stays quiet for the remainder of the journey.

----------

We arrive at Dan's house shortly and I'm not surprised that the front door isn't locked. I push the door open and motion for Lily to come inside. I walk upstairs to the guest room and get my mum's diary. 'What is that?'

'My mum's diary,' I reply shrugging my shoulders and she nods her head.

We walk down the stairs and I shut the door closed. 'Kiera!' I hear Dan's voice and I instantly turn around. He waves at me as he steps out of the black mini cab. I smile at him and turn back to Lily, asking 'Can you give me five minutes?'

'Kiera.'

'Please, I am desperate and you owe me for everything you did to me,' I reply and she scoffs.

'Four minutes,' she replies and I smile as I walk towards Dan.

'How are you?' He asks curiously.

'Not good, I feel like I'm in a prison, I literally have no freedom.'

'I don't think prison would be any better though,' he chuckles and I roll my eyes.

'What are you doing here?'  I ask and the smile instantly leaves his face.

'I've been released on bail.'

'Don't worry you'll get off lightly, it’s your first time.'

'So? Either way, you're not going to be staying with me' he says disappointed and I sigh because I now it's true.

'Time is up,' Lily says as she walks towards us.

'One more minute Lily, I did say five minutes.'

'That was actually six minutes,' she replies as she folds her arms.

'Lily,' I whine annoyed.

'It’s fine, I'll text you.'

'No, you won't text her,' Lily replies coldly and I scoff.

'Shut up Lily.' I look at Dan and say 'Okay, I'll be waiting for it.' He chuckles again and Lily forcefully drags me away.

'What the hell are you doing flirting with him?'

'I'm not,' I gasp.

'Yes you are Kiera.'

'Whatever Lily,' I fold my arms and walk in front of her, trying to ignore her false comment.
