2 | happy flyboy's first mistake
SEEING Leia alive and well made my eyes light up like the beautiful stars in the sky. I had been away for many years and it never made me regret something more for leaving in the first place. How could I ever have left this beautiful, encouraging, fearless and daring woman when she was facing absolute hell?
First the rise of the First Order, how her and Han Solo's son had gone rogue and joined the wicked and awful Snoke. But most importantly; How Luke Skywalker, her brother, had gone missing for years after he failed one of his students.
I was shocked, and almost wanted to hug and comfort her by the moment I saw the sadness in her eyes while she talked about her son. ''I didn't know you had a son, princess,'' I hummed quietly, playing with my own fingers. The elder woman just smiled weakly. ''You were gone, Anwen. There are a lot of things that you don't know.'' Her voice did sound quite judgemental. Was she judging me? She probably wasn't. This was my mind talking.
''I am sorry I couldn't be there for you,'' My voice was barely a whisper as I looked down to face my hands. ''I was gone in the moments you needed me the most.'' In an instant, I felt her hands on mine. ''Don't. Just don't, Anwen. You had a lot to deal with the last few years. Han told me all about it.'' I looked up to her, shocked. What exactly did she know about me and my life? My people? My family and friends? My sacrifices?
"That scumbag told you?" I raised my voice a little, which began trembling a little. The princess placed a hand on my shoulder. "That scumbag, as you called him; saved your life on multiple occasions," she told me in a soothing voice as I rubbed my temples.
"But he promised. I confided in him a-"
Leia held a hand up, the only motion that would ever keep me from talking and trashing around. She was being serious about this. "Han promises a lot of things. But trust me. When he breaks one he has a damn good reason for it." Then there was a long, icy silence in which I glared at her. It was one of my I don't want to give her the satisfaction of being right, so I just stare at you glares. Not very effective, but it would do.
Leia's face, for a change, lit up entirely. She knew she was right. Of course she was. She saw straight through people, and especially through me, a person she knew since her childhood. "I am right, and you know it," she finally stated with a smug grin.
"Alright princess. Whatever you want."
Minutes later we were seated in the main room of the resistance's base. I was still stuck with the IV. The bag with fluids was almost empty. Great! That meant I would get rid off this thing soon. Because... Well. I hated needles and everything that was pointy and would hurt my sensitive skin. I cringed inwardly because of my childish weakness. Allanon would be ashamed of me. He would say there were greater things to worry about.
With a sigh I turned myself to the princess of Alderaan, a steaming cup of spicy tea in my hands. I really didn't know what it was, but it made me all warm and fuzzy inside. Exactly what I needed.
"So tell me more about your son. What is his name?" I said between sips, trying to start a conversation with her. A small smile graced her lips as the brunette turned to me. "Ben."
"As in... Ben Kenobi?" I recalled with a rather smug smile. Ah, old Ben Kenobi. Or as I called him; Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Leia must have seen my expression, because she started to laugh. A melodic, yet quite forced sound. "Still as clever, I see."
"Never really changed, princess~"
Then, out of nowhere came a deep yet quite playful voice. "Are those spices I smell, Leia? Isn't that illegal?"
Immediately I spat my drink out and glanced over to Leia. Spices? Drugs?
Noticing my sudden confusion, the commander smiled reassuring. "It's nothing, Anwen. Commander Dameron was fooling you, isn't that right?"
"Yeah - Yes of course."
As I turned around I saw a smug smiling Latino staring at both of us. He seemed one of the big deals here Leia had told me about earlier today. And let me tell you this. He annoyed me already. I took a couple steps in his direction.
And some more.
And more.
Until I was awfully close to him. It was almost uncomfortable. "You know.. I know your kind. Happy flyboy's who don't even have respect for the elderly." Commander Dameron snorted, keeping up that smug smile like he just pranked the highest and most powerful person in the galaxy.
And it was true for a part. I was powerful, beyond imagination. I was the one who wasn't connected to the force. I was my very own one.
"You are Anwen, right? You are a hot topic in the Resistance now. Rumour has it you are more powerful than Darth Vader."
I nodded slightly, embarassed deep inside. If they all only knew the gruesome things I had done in order to receive that power. "And you are?"
"I am Poe. Poe Dameron. But you can call me whatever you want."
Oh there it was. That smug smile. That damn smile. I only let out a deep sigh. From the outside I seemed calm, but my blood was boiling in my veins. Oh this boy..
"Well.. happy flyboy. Consider this your first and last mistake. Next time you make me spit out my beloved tea, I will wipe the dirty, wet floor with your face."
