Chapter 23

"Where's your phone?" I raised my brows at Mr. Reynolds. I should at least try calling my phone if by some miracle it's safe and sound. Someone could have caught it which seems nearly impossible or at least found it by now.
"I think I left mine in the car." He said while checking his pockets. I did see him throwing away his phone on the backseat of his car in frustration.
"I thought I could try calling my phone in case it survived that stroke." I looked around and spotted about half my size unicorn toy at a game stall. I want that.
"I don't think it survived. Sorry for your loss. Could I do something to make you feel better?" He said it so sincerely that I laughed.
I patted his shoulder, "It's alright. You can win me that big unicorn to make me feel a little bit better." I pointed out the game in which you need to throw a dart at the board on the number mentioned on a stuffed toy to win.
"What makes you think I am good at this?" He looked towards the unicorn stuff toy that I just mentioned. Is he thinking that I am such a baby to ask him to win it for me? Nevermind. Well who cares when that cute stuff toy is on the line.
"I have never once seen you miss a throw of paper balls in the dustbin from a good distance and you throw away the cap of your marker to point at something on the board like a pro. So you might as well be good at this as well." I've seen him do this a lot of times even when I go to his office on the pretext of not getting some topic or just giving him the attendance for the day or assignments.
"You notice that? Do you usually keep your eyes on me?" He tilted his head. Nowadays? Always. But not in a stalker-kind of way instead whenever I am around him I unintentionally end up noticing small details when in fact I don't want to. I have no idea how to stop doing that. I remember things he said other than things concerning our course.
He sometimes says random quotes in class which I would scribble down at the back of my notebook. Surely, he doesn't need to know that kind of confidential information.
"Like I said before, you gotta look at the person who's teaching in order to understand better and I happened to see you notice you crumple the paper to throw away as you never tear it apart."
"How about I try winning that snake like thing first?" My eyes sparkled as I spotted the green snake toy. Hell, yeah. I want that. I would like him to win me everything but that wouldn't be good for this business. So yeah, nah.
"That's the spirit." He not only won me that snake and unicorn but also two cute teddy bears that the shop owner side eyed me but I just ignored him and gave Mr. Reynolds a friendly side hug for winning all the stuff toys for me.
I saw a girl staring at my teddy bears so I asked Mr. Reynolds to hand one of them to the little girl. She jumped up with excitement when Mr. Reynolds told her that he won it for her. She kissed him on the cheek and then waved at me. She looked so happy and showed the teddy bear to her dad.
"Thank you, mister. You are a good guy. Can you please date my sister?" I was shocked to hear such a little girl say that. Although I know how kids could be these days. They will say anything without a filter and act like it's no big deal. "She has terrible taste in guys so I am hoping to fix that."
Mr. Reynolds wouldn't take it seriously. In the meanwhile, to distract myself, I put the snake toy around my neck for fun.
"I'm sorry, baby. I already have someone in my mind." Mr. Reynolds said casually which is something I did not expect at all. He ruffled the little girl's hair, leaving her a giggling mess. I waved my hands at her as goodbye and then we proceeded towards the well of the bewitched. But all the time I kept thinking about what he just told her.
Obviously he has someone special. How can I expect someone like him to be single? That just wouldn't sit well with anyone but I still hoped that he doesn't have anyone waiting on him. I should be relieved that even if I have a crush on him it would never turn into something so disastrous that my father's fury will be the end of it. Still, it hurts. Nevermind, I should live in the moment before it goes away.
I was so lost in my thoughts that Mr. Reynolds had to wave his hand in front of me saying, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, let's go to the roller coaster next!" I said excitedly because these thoughts can wait but I might not be here again anytime soon. So I might as well lock up my thoughts for some time and enjoy as much as I can before my meeting with my parents tomorrow. I wonder what I have in store this time.
We went to the lockers near the entry gate first to put all the stuffed toys in there so we can enjoy ourselves without having to worry about them.
We sat down side by side in the roller coaster and waited patiently for the ride to start when a teenage girl turned around and said pointing towards the guy around her age, "He's my boyfriend. So he's off-limits."
The guy blushed and covered his face and said, "I'm only yours tinker tanky bubbly boo."
"And I'm only yours my pookie lookie monkey." Then they started kissing each other so weirdly that I felt second-hand embarrassment.
When they stopped the weird act, I whispered to Mr. Reynolds who looked equally appalled, "How weird."
"Young love." Mr. Reynolds made a face.
I wonder when will they start the roller coaster because I sure as hell don't want to listen to this weird couple's conversation but I couldn't help but hear as they were so loud that probably everyone in here can hear them.
"You should put your foot on mine." The weird boy said.
"Why should I only put my foot? I want to hold your hand too." The weird girl replied.
"Will you love me forever?"
"Forever my pookie lookie monkey. Let's go to the well of the bewitched next to wish that we always stay together." She put her palm on his head as if petting a dog.
"You're so cute. Do you have a brother?"
"Would you leave me if you find him more attractive?" I shared a look with Mr. Reynolds and we both stifled a smile.
"No, just curious. I want to eat something nice."
"l could just hop off and bring in something so you could eat on the ride. It'll distract you as well." Okay, that is enough. I have to interrupt them.
"Excuse me, Mr. Pookie lookie monkey." He turned around to look at me with a questioning look while his tinker tanky bubbly boo seethed at me.
"I'm not sure how old you are but-" She interrupted me with a, "None of your business but we are almost sixteen and old enough to know that you have a thing for my boyfriend which isn't something I would ever tolerate. Back off." Then she proceeded to look at Mr. Reynolds and said, "You look really nice but I'm sorry that your girl just can't be loyal. If you ever want to look for a girl I can give you my number so I can help set you up with one of my friends." She freaking smiled at me as if she won some battle.
"I'm not interested in minors and that is my friend right here so you better stop this nonsense and you can't eat on the ride because in case you don't know you are either going to throw up or your food will end up flying in every direction. And FYI, this ride is about to start so you better get seated and stop with the nicknames because it sure as hell grating on my nerves you high schoolers." Mr. Reynolds said as if rebuking students.
"Exactly! And trust me we know the owner so we might as well throw you out of this place right this second with a single message." I flipped my hair for the effect.
I looked at Mr. Reynolds and high fived him. I leaned in towards him and said, "Woah, that was some great speech right there. Being a professor must come handy in situations like these."
"I see you're impressed." He chuckled.
They both turned into their seats and she mumbled, "Adults are not adulting anymore." While the guy said, "Maturity is not maturing anymore." And they both started laughing like crazy people. If there was a competition for a laugh where they are searching for the most ridiculous couple laugh then they would win it for sure.
The roller coaster ride was amazing with all the smoke effects and occasional upside down skeletons on our way. Mr. Reynolds looked as if he was terrified so I put my hand on his and squeezed to reassure him that I'm there as we went down at high speed. He looked up at me and gave me a grateful smile.
We went to the ferris wheel with two cotton candies in each of our hands. When the ferris wheel started moving I felt it in my stomach. The view was marvelous, you could see the whole Adventure Park from up here lit up with different lights. Everything looked so small and cute. I wish I could capture this view. I looked at Mr. Reynolds to notice him looking at me. I raised my eyebrows and reckoned him with my eyes to look at the view and he just shrugged.
"What?" I asked almost inaudibly with all the screams of people enjoying the view.
"The view in your eyes looks far better than the actual view." He said casually with a shrug but it erupted more butterflies in my stomach than the one I had from the ferris wheel. I started feeling light weight and did not say anything. I started eating my second cotton candy so he wouldn't see the effect of his words on my face or in my voice. A little later, I pointed out rides to him which I wanna go next. He clearly told me he wouldn't set his foot anywhere near Tagada so I guess I'll have to ride it alone. I can't afford to miss anything.
We ate ice cream and made faces at each other whenever we spotted clingy couples making Tiktok videos of them doing weird stuff. We talked a lot and I tried everything under the sun to not come out as Jennifer Lawrence.
