Chapter 12

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Jennifer

I'm thankful that at least my foot feels alright and I can walk even if it is with a little bit of uneasiness. Without putting much thought to it, I grabbed my apartment keys from the dresser near the door. I quickly locked the door, got inside the elevator and pressed the button to the ground floor.

Once I was outside I saw Leonard standing beside the car. He is one of the loyal bodyguards of my dad. He opened the door for me like a gentleman he has always been. We reached my parents house after a drive of about forty five minutes.

Here we go again...

Not even a month ago I was right here listening to their blabbering about my so-called fiance and here I'm again. I wanna cry at my luck so bad.

I slowly walked towards the huge doors of prison and as soon as I set my foot in front of the door, it automatically gave me access to enter. I took a deep breath and prepared myself. Once I entered inside, I waved my hand towards the door, mumbling a quick 'bye bye freedom'.

"Ma'am, Sir is waiting for you in his study room." Bexley said. She is the daughter of Melissa, who was practically my mother when I was young, but unfortunately she died in an accident. I miss her and seeing Bexley makes me happy as she's the exact replica of her mother.

"Bex, how many times do I need to remind you to call me Jen." I said playfully smacking her arm.

"But it would be unprofessional, I'm in the middle of my job." She said pouting.

"Silly, you're practically my sister." I hugged her tightly.

"JENNIFER" I jumped back from Bex as my dad's voice echoed in the entire house. I dashed towards his study room like my life depended on it.

When I finally made it there, the first thing that caught my attention was this weird looking freaking million worth painting of a lady with hypnotizing eyes that hung above the study desk of my father. It freaks me out every single time I come here and it seems to give a vibe like I-dare-you-to-lie-&-I'll-make-sure-you-rot-in-hell.

I said a quick 'Hey' waving my hands awkwardly in the air.

Walter looked at me worriedly. On the other hand, Mom took a quick glance towards me before focussing her attention back on her newly painted nails. Okay, hello to you too my lovely mom.

Dad just glared at me and looked like he's going to explode any moment. What did I do? Can somebody explain?

"WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?" Dad said and as I hesitantly looked at where he was pointing, my eyes popped out of its sockets when I saw the image after image of Hiten carrying me were on display on the big screen with the help of the projector.

I looked at the screen and then back at dad, I continued this process for what feels like forever. How? When? Why? Oh no. This is so humiliating and embarrassing. I'm screwed.

"Care to explain?" Dad said. The look on his face is so scary that if looks could kill I'd have died a thousand times with a slow and painful death.

"Don't tell me that you are dating this guy even after I gave you warnings prior to sending you to college." The words slipped like venom from his mouth and he continued to glare at me.

"Honey, I don't think she's in a relationship." Mom told dad, for a minute I was shocked that Mom was supporting me. I was about to go hug her, but stopped when she said, "I mean, look at her..." She made a weird face, "And look at him." She said dreamily. My family is crazy if you ask me.

"No one would want to date a girl like her. She's lucky that we have convinced a guy from a wealthy family to marry her. Otherwise, in my opinion, she'll grow old living by herself or with the cats or maybe even with imaginary people." Mom said looking at me like I am some inferior product.

By the way, what is wrong with getting old with the cats? In my opinion, it's the best life one could ask for. No drama, no heartbreaks and no dealings with the idiotic men.

I always wanted to run away, but they have so much power that they can find me even if I'm in the middle of the Amazon.

Once when Walter and I were so done with them, we even made one of our friend's dad do a DNA test with our parents to check whether we are adopted or something. But turns out we belong to this family. I wonder how come we have polarity.

"Shut up Isabella, I'm talking to her." Dad said, giving a side-glance to Mom, who in response just rolled her eyes.

"Who is this guy? If he's your boyfriend then split up with him this instant." He said harshly, pointing his forefinger at me like accusing me of committing some sort of crime.

"Hiten." I said, pretending to throw up and from the corner of my eyes, I saw Walter trying to stifle his laugh.

"You can't fool us young lady." He said in the most intimidating voice which I'm quite used to so it doesn't scare me as such.

But to clear his doubts away, I said, "I swear to god, I'm not in a relationship with that idiot." Once the words left my mouth, dad looked content with the answer.

"Still, you are grounded for a week. Don't make any stupid mistakes in the time being, otherwise I'll make sure to get you out of the college and leave you at the end of the altar." His words left me standing there with utter shock and horror written all over my face.

"No you can't." I said, looking at him in disbelief.

"I can and I will." He said looking dead serious. There's no doubt that he holds so much power that if he wanted to, then I could be buried a thousand feet under and no one would ever be able to know where I disappeared.

I looked towards Walter for seeking help but to add more to my misery and terrible situation, dad dismissed him by motioning his hands towards the door. Okay, I get it, it's a no-win situation. Like always.

Wow, I'm so lucky to have such loving and caring parents who love me unconditionally.

"Your phone." Mom said, extending her hand. There's no point in fighting, so I gave it to her.

"And how can I forget that your fiance is gonna be here any minute now. So better go to your room and get ready." Mom said and I can see myself standing at the altar with that stupid man making fake vows for the lifetime. I don't know what happened afterwards as my head started to throb, my vision started blurring, making darkness consume me.

I woke up the next morning and felt relieved as I dodged the bullet by fainting. Apparently, my soon to be fiance needed to leave because of some emergency situation at his workplace. So yippee, when he came, I was in my room resting.

Few hours later~~

I feel like Rapunzel, stuck in her tower and can only see the outside world from the window of her room because I can't step out. I can't even think about jumping out the window as it's so high.

I don't wanna die from an idiotic act. I wonder how the headlines of the newspaper would be like about my tragic aka stupid act-

The unseen daughter of Christine Lawrence, the owner of number one Technological Company turns out to be a dumb girl as she jumps out the window of her room.

It'd be so embarrassing.

Now, all I need to do is to contact my bff's.

Landline

Why didn't I think about it earlier? All I have to do is reach for it like a ghost and make a simple phone call to my friends. I slightly opened my door and looked around for any signs of my amazing parents. When I was sure that no one's around, I tiptoed to the landline James bond style having every sense open while being on a mission.

Once I reached the landline, I picked up the receiver and put it near my ear.

"Access not granted." It said. My jaw dropped to the ground as I noticed that the receiver and the dial pad had a scanner which scanned my finger prints.

Mission failed :(

~~~~~ONE YEAR LATER~~~~~
Okay, I might be exaggerating, but one day here literally feels like one year. I can't take it anymore. I lay down on my bed to think about ways to contact my besties. I miss them so much that I can't even explain it in words. What about Mr. Ryan Reynolds? Umm, maybe a little bit...
I was looking up at the ceiling of my room because I'm so bored that I can't even sleep. All I want is to go out. We always aspire to something we can't have. After living in my apartment for more than two years now I can't imagine living here for a second, but I'm stuck here for a whole freaking week.
The sound of firecrackers made me come out of my misery. I jumped out of my bed and ran towards the terrace. As soon as I reached, I was a breathless mess. I took a minute to calm my nerves. The view was worth it as the area around my house was covered with sky lanterns everywhere.
I can't believe my eyes right now. Am I hallucinating? I pinched myself to confirm that it's real. When I looked at the sky lanterns again, some of them made it to me and there were so many messages written on it for me from Kathy and Monica making my eyes moist with the hint of tears.
