Chapter 10

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Jennifer

A wonderful start of the day is ensured by getting a cold coffee. I'm so happy, like really happy nowadays. I wore a simple white tank top with straight leg blue jeans and finished the look with a blue cap and headphones.

I decided to go to the Cafeteria first to grab some muffins. I took a seat at one of the tables and settled my headphones around my neck.

My phone pinged indicating a notification. An involuntary smile spread across my face as I noticed Kathy tagged me on Instagram.

She posted a picture of us smiling widely at the camera as we were surrounded by roses in a garden which was clicked by none other than Nick.

But the funny thing is that Monica for some reason couldn't make it so in the picture Kathy had drawn a stick drawing of Monica with one eye bigger than the other. The caption of the picture reads: ♡♡My Lifelines♡♡.

Thud
I noticed Monica's bag on the table as she pulled out a chair opposite me hissing.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked her because if looks could kill then everyone should be dead by now.

"You remember that jock Adam?" I nodded. "He asked me out yesterday. I was so excited about it until five minutes ago when I saw him flirting with that bitch Kristen. Can you believe that?" She said loudly, I know that Kristen, she's so full of herself.

"What else can we expect from him? His list of girlfriends are countless, everyone knows that. If you would've paid attention to the group chat I showed you last time, you would've found that girls literally fight for him." I snorted.

"He can do whatever the hell he wants to do till the time I show him who the hell am I." She laughed evilly. God if I would have not known her for a long time, then I'm pretty sure I must have thought she is some kind of serial killer or sociopath.

"What are you gonna do?" I leaned on the table, curiosity laced in my voice as I handed her the last muffin. What? I wanna know and better not be a part of it.

She took the muffin, looked at it for a few seconds, then smashed it in her hand and then ate it like that's Adam. "Well, for starters, I'm gonna pretend that I have never seen him flirting with Kristen. After that, he would wish that he had never encountered me ever." She pulled out her phone after she finished off the muffin. In the meantime, I dialed Kathy's number and she picked up immediately.

"Hey, where are you?" I asked her casually.

"Actually... I won't be coming today. You know Nick wanted to go see this movie so I kinda said yes and I might be in a movie theater with 4 buckets of popcorn on my lap." She said combined with a little nervous laughter.

"Woah, so the love birds are watching a movie." I teased her. "Now pass the phone to Nick."

"So you aren't mad." She said in a chirpy tone, "By the way it's just two friends, watching a movie together, not some love birds." She muttered in an annoyed tone.

"Whatever you say sweetie! Have a great date." I smiled from ear to ear knowing at least one of us is on a date.

"For the last time, it's not a da—" Kathy was cut off by Nick as he shouted, "Jennifer, it's hundred and one percent a date."

"I knew it. Now hang up and enjoy, and lastly better treat her nicely." I said cheerfully. I hung up and looked at Monica, to say I was shocked is an understatement, because she's smiling like the craziest person in the world who is planning her master plan for revenge.

"Jen, I'm gonna go." She said packing up her stuff.

"So I guess I'll see you in class?"

"Hopefully." She replied instantly and left.

It's time for the mathematics class. It's been a week since he gave me chocolates. I don't know why, but I'm excited about attending his classes nowadays. I feel like one of those girls who has a crush on him. No, what am I thinking? Stop it, brain. Stop.

I should think about it in this way:

Firstly, he is an intelligent professor.

Secondly, he is gorgeous and yeah, I'm not denying it anymore. So that can be a possible reason too, considering the fact that when you see an attractive person, a part of the brain becomes active and pumps out dopamine.

Last but not the least, he doesn't say crap like you are late anymore.
Yeah, that's the reason. I reminded myself.

As I was approaching his class, I noticed him standing in front of the class through the class window. He immediately seemed to sense my gaze as he returned it with one of his charming smiles.

I was only two steps away from reaching the door handle when all of a sudden I heard a loud cursing. I turned around and spotted a furious looking Monica running after Adam, pushing past anyone who came in the way. He looked back while running and unknowingly knocked me down with him in the process.

A loud thud accompanied by my scream echoed in the hallway. It hurts like hell when a really heavy person falls on top of you. I fell straight on my back. My hands covering my face in the process.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to knock you down." He said, still laying on top of me. I peeked at him through my fingers. I noticed him properly for the first time as his face was really close to mine and I have to say that boy, he got good looks. I was busy admiring him when suddenly I heard a high pitched voice and I didn't even need to take a look to know to whom it belonged.

"Get your filthy hands off my baby!" Kristen shouted at the top of her lungs and I literally had to cover my ears. Even after covering my ears, it feels like a crow is shouting.

Adam tried to get up but failed miserably, falling on me all over again. I looked at him and saw a glint of mischief in his eyes. Is he even trying to get up?

Monica's heel made a loud noise as she stood right beside us. She instantly held Adam's left ear, making him get up with ease, "Ouch, leave me." Adam said, trying hard to get out of Monica's death grip.

I literally did the happy dance mentally with banners stating, 'That's my girl' & shouting, 'Monica! Monica!' at the top of my lungs. I looked up and spotted Mr. Reynolds trying hard to control his laughter.

"Adam baby!" She called out loud enough for everyone to hear, "Why are you not saying anything to this pathetic girl?" She throws a nasty look at Monica before turning to Adam with a pout.

"You shut up, bitch. This is between him and I. Stay out of it." Monica said sternly, looking more pissed.

"How dare you?" Kristen shrieked looking ready to throw hands.

"It was a misunderstanding." Adam finally gets in their way to stop as he spotted the massive crowd they had gathered.

"Take your nasty little bitch away from my eyes!!" Monica said, pointing at Adam in sheer madness, "Otherwise, I will burn her alive." She said laughing evilly.

Everything after that blurred as I focused my attention back on Mr. Reynolds, who was looking at me as if asking if I was okay or not. I blinked my eyes in response to his question and realised that he was taking steps towards me. He extended his hand in order to help me get up and that's when Monica came to my side.

"Jen, are you okay?" Monica asked, sitting next to me on the floor. She carefully checked me to see if I suffered any injuries.

"I'm alright, just a little pain in my back and left foot." I shrugged.

"We have to rush to the hospital." She exaggerated.

"What? No way! A pain reliever would do the job just fine." I said stubbornly because I don't like hospitals and not to mention, I was not the victim of any kind of serious accident.

"Yes, we are going. You better get your X-ray done. That son of a—" She stopped and threw a look at Mr. Reynolds before correcting her, "Adam sure was heavy. He might as well have broken your ribs. We can't let that happen." She said sternly and I don't think she'll listen to me.

"That's not possible by a mere fall. Trust me, I am not that fragile. I'll go, but to the medical room, not to a freaking hospital." I crossed my arms but my back hurt so I unfolded them just as quickly.

"Okay, if you say so. Can you stand?" She stood up and held out her hand.

"Yes, I think I can stand on my own." I replied. Monica and Mr. Reynolds give me a like-really look, and as soon as I tried to stand up, I faltered on my steps only to fall directly on Mr. Reynolds and I swear I felt him get stiffened. His intoxicating scent wafted me. I swiftly hold on to the door for support and get away from him.

"I think you do need my help." Monica said, noticing me.

We managed to reach the medical room with so much difficulty however to our dismay no one was there. A note was posted on the door saying an emergency occurred, and will be back in half an hour.

"Emergency?" Monica looked at the note skeptically, "They didn't even mention the time when they left. How are we supposed to measure time?" Her voice was laced with frustration, "I'll surely get back at Adam for hurting you. Revenge is best served cold." She looked at me with concern and then hugged me gently.

From the corner of my eye, I saw someone coming in our direction. I turned to notice it was none other than Mr. Reynolds.

"Ms. Rodriguez, can you pick up my stuff from the class and leave it in my office?" He politely asked Monica.

"Sure, sir. I'll do that right away." She quickly left our sight but not before sending a quick wink my way.

"Let's put some ointment on your foot." He said, opening the door with a key.

He pulled out a chair for me and helped me sit down. He found the ointment for pain relief and then sat across from me on another chair.

"May I?" He eyed my foot and I nodded.

"Ouch it hurts." I complained once he placed my foot on his leg.

"I'm sorry, I'll be more careful." He said and gently held my foot in order to examine it. He pulled out ointment and started spreading it across my foot. I felt some tingling sensation where he touched, but I pushed those thoughts aside.

"So have you watched Gossip Girl?" I asked him. What? I don't know what else to talk about.

"Yes, it's amazing." He said laughing a little, still putting ointment on my right foot.

"You are lying, aren't you?" I chuckled.

"Is it the one with two vampire brothers?" He seemed genuinely curious.

"No, that's The Vampire Diaries. The Salvatore brothers. I had a crush on both of them." I remembered the time I thought no one is hotter than them.

"Okay, then I have watched that a little thanks to my sister." He replied.

"You really have a nice set of teeth." What the hell am I talking about? Shit. His face breaks into a million dollar smile as he added, "So do you."

"Your friend really has a bad temper." He commented which made me go full on defense mode.

"Only when it comes to guys like Adam. She is a really nice person once you get to know her. She's genuine, sweet, intelligent, non-judgemental, supportive even at times when I am in the wrong and non-tolerable towards anyone who does her or her loved one wrong." He nodded with a glint in his eyes.

"Well, you don't need to be scared of her cause she thinks you are hot." The words escaped my lips before I had the chance to think them through. My hands slammed onto my mouth and I looked his way to catch his reaction. He didn't seem bothered by my uncalled statement. But still I regret saying anything in the first place. I need to get a grip on my mouth.

"What about you?" He watched me with an indecipherable gaze and instead of answering his question I changed the topic after careful evaluation of my previous answers have led me.

"I am recently watching The Big Bang Theory. Have you watched it?" I questioned, successfully changing the topic.

"All the seasons." He replied as he put my foot down. Wow, he's already done? I was enjoying it way too much than I would like to admit.

"Oh my goodness, you have watched it." I said surprised, "You remember the episode in which Sheldon and Penny went to buy a present for Leonard and he ended up sugges—" He cut me off by adding, "Suggesting people what kind of product will suit their requirement." He said enthusiastically.

"Yeah, so once I went to this store to buy paint and wallpapers for my new apartment and let me tell you I'm so choosy when it comes to decorating. So what happened was..." He listened to me attentively.

"I had drawn a complete blueprint of the apartment on a sheet of paper and I tried mixing so many colours and all of that in the shop itself. Somehow people noticed me and asked me to suggest colours to them as well. AND I wasn't able to do my own stuff because I got busy imparting wisdom of colours."

"SO YOU PRACTICALLY BECAME SHELDON FOR A DAY." He threw his head back laughing hard and I joined him.

"I got home at midnight without getting anything." I said in between the laughs.

The door creaked open, "I heard you got injured."
