CHAPTER 2
DREW
I was sitting in the cafeteria with Vee before school, waiting for Summer. I'd made Vee get up early so that we could meet Summer here before classes started. She'd texted me and said that she wanted to tell us something.
I was sitting with my head leaned on Vee's shoulder. Vee was sitting next to me with his head on mine, but he was half asleep. We were holding hands over his lap, half under the table so that people couldn't see unless they were right next to us. The only way I could tell Vee wasn't fully alseep was because he was rubbing the back of my hand with his thumb. His eyes were closed and his breathing was slow like he was asleep though.
"Drew!" I suddenly heard Summer's voice and she ran over to us.
"Hey!" I said, waving since I couldn't do much anything else with Vee mostly-asleep on me.
"What have you two been up to? I feel like we haven't seen each other in forever," Summer said, sitting down on the other side of the table.
"Nothing much," I said. "What about you?"
"Welll," Summer said slowly. "That's what I wanted to talk to you about. . ."
"Okay," I said. Summer took a deep breath, as if reconsidering, but she spoke anyways.
"So you know how there was a party last night?" She said. I nodded. "Well. . . I may have gotten drunk. . . And I may have had sex with someone. . ."
"YOU BETTER NOT BE PREGNANT!" I exclaimed.
"Jesus Christ! No I'm not pregnant!" Summer said.
"Who was it?" I said, calming down.
"Well. . . It was—" Summer was suddenly cut off by the bell. Vee jerked awake at the sound, his eyes snapping open. I jumped when he did.
"Calm down!" I said, putting a hand on his shoulder. He rubbed his eyes and yawned.
"What did I miss?" He said sleepily. I watched him, concerned.
"Vee, you need more sleep," I said. I brushed his bangs away from his face gently. "I know you never do."
"I can't," Vee said. He stood up and grabbed our bags. "Let's get to class."
I sighed, but followed him anyway. "Continue this conversation at lunch?" I said to Summer.
"I can't, I leave after third period."
"Dang it," I said. "Monday?"
Summer nodded at that. "I'll be there."
Vee and I went to class like usual. Vee was in a depressive mood, and paired with no sleep, that usually doesn't end well. He didn't try anything though.
Ninth period—History— was the only class we didn't sit near each other; Vee still sat at the other end of the classroom. Our History teacher ships us though so he's probably going to move us back together.
We were still working on our partner projects, but he was giving instructions so we hadn't been allowed to move yet. I glanced over at Vee during that time to check on him. He had his head down on the desk. 'Asleep,' I thought.
Eventually instruction was over and I moved to sit next to Vee. That's when I realized he wasn't asleep. He had his head in his hands and was shaking, his breathing unnaturally quick and his fingers curled into his hair.
"Vee?" I said, putting my hand on his shoulder. I heard small sounds come from him and put my arms around his shoulders.
"Vee, Vee it'll be okay," I started saying once I realized what was going on, rubbing his shoulders. He's having a mini seizure-panic attack. He used to get them a lot more when he was younger; his legs would hurt and he would start shaking and crying uncontrollably. Jessie told me.
I kept talking to Vee. "It's going to be okay, you'll be okay, Vee." I said. "Just get through it, you'll be okay." Vee kept shaking, now I could hear his crying. I gently pulled his head against my chest and he wrapped his arms around me.
"Squeeze me if you want. You will get through it, it's okay," I continued to speak to him. Our teacher finally realized that something was wrong and walked over.
"What's going on?" He asked, putting a hand on Vee's back. "Octaveus?"
"He's hurting," I said shortly, going back to my chant to him. His arms tightened around me at one point and I let him squeeze me until the pain went away. I heard the teacher leave, then the nurse was standing in his place a couple minutes later.
"It's alright Vee, it's almost over, it'll go away soon," I was telling him when she came over. He was shaking more than ever, and I could feel his tears wetting my shirt, but I didn't care. I kept holding him and stroking his hair.
The nurse saw that she couldn't do anything and comforted him with me. Soon he started to relax, his breathing slowing to normal and the shaking subsiding to a stop. I kept stroking him, not letting go.
Suddenly I heard our History teacher say, "You two should go home."
I looked at him when he said that.
He looked sympathetic. "I don't know what that was, but I have a feeling he should rest, and you need to be there to help him. I'll call the office that you two left because of an emergency."
I nodded and smiled at him. "Thank you," I said, gently pulling Vee up with me. It took him a second but he managed to stand after his pain spasm and I walked him out to my car.
Mom was home when we got there, which surprised me because she usually didn't get off work until 7:00, and school ended at 4:00. She saw us walk in around 3:30, and looked confused.
"School isn't out until four— DREW YOU BETTER NOT BE SKIPPING—"
"Mom why would I skip?? And if I was why would I come here?" I walked Vee to my room and he sat down on the bed. "I'll be right back," I said, walking out to the kitchen where my mother was.
"Explain." Mom said.
"Vee had a pain fit during History and Mr. Melini let us go early so he could rest," I said.
Mom made an 'ohh' face. "Alright. Is he okay?"
"Yeah, just tired I think," I said. "He's in my room."
"Okay," Mom nodded. "Is he staying over?"
"Yeah probably. I doubt he wants to go home."
"Well, you know where his stuff is," Mom said. "Now go help him."
I rolled my eyes and walked to my room. "That's what I was doing Mom!"
I walked in and shut the door behind me. "You okay Vee?" I asked him.
He nodded at me. He had taken off his shirt and pants and was now in only black briefs. He normally sleeps that way, but I blushed nonetheless.
He opened his arms and I walked over to him, sitting in his lap while he rested his head on mine. "I love you," he said.
"I love you too." I said. He leaned back and lay down on my bed, rolling me onto my side next to him. I curled up to his chest and sighed in content, listening to his heartbeat as I fell asleep.
I am so sorry this took so long! I had no inspiration for this whatsoever. Hope you enjoyed!
