CHAPTER five

I wake up bright and early and for the first time I'm genuinely happy. I hop into the shower and wash off all of the nighttime grime from my body. I wrap a towel around myself and let my hair air-dry. I go to my closet and pick out a pair of jeans, a white tank top, and black combat boots. I grab a maroon sweater and tie it around my waist with the sleeves in the front. I grab my leather belt bracelet (it's like a mini belt for my wrist) and put it on my wrist. I comb through my hair and curl the tips. I apply some glossy pink lipgloss and grab my phone. I pack up my b clack and go downstairs. Everyone is sitting at the table.
"Morning daddy." I say as I kiss his forehead.
"Morning baby girl. You look nice today."
"Thank you." I look at my mother who is smiling. She winks at me and I giggle. My little brother, Sam, looks at me with disgust.
"Ew what boy are you trying to impress today."
I frown and break into a nervous sweat. Will dad catch on? What will he do if he does?
"Sam, I think your sister is just trying to look nice. Encourage it."
"Dad!"
"What? Oh, sorry. You always look nice, you just look nicer today."
I roll my eyes, ruffle Sam's long, blonde hair, grab a banana and leave. I get my bike out of the garage, remembering I left my car at school, and hop on. I start to pedal faster and faster so I can make it to school. Halfway there, I stop to check the time. 7:40. Ok I have 15 minutes to make it to school. I pedal really fast for the next 10 minutes and finally make it to school. I pop open my car trunk, put my bike in it, lock my car and head into school. With five minutes left before school, I try to find my friends.
Okay, I was actually trying to find Bryan.
I walk around the hall looking for Becky. She's normally here earlier than Bethany. Finally, I spot Bethany standing by the vending machine talking to her boyfriend, Brett. Unfortunately, the vending machine is at the other end of the hallway. I make the long, treacherous journey down the hall. Normally, with the way I look, act, and my popularity level, people stare at me with disgust, and look away. But not before laughing at my "ugliness". Today though, I've dressed differently. As my dad even noticed. And everyone here noticed it as well. Instead of disgusted looks, I see awe. I see people whispering. This one girl, Trinity, comes up to me. She's on the cheerleading and pep squad.
"Hi. I'm Trinity. Are you new?"
"Umm Trinity, we've gone to the same school since kindergarten."
"I've never seen you around though."
"It's me. Emily Trop."
"Oh, Emily! You look different. But good."
"Thanks." I reply flatly. These people disgust me. They only care about appearances. I head over to Bethany who has her back to me.
"Hey! Bethany! Yo! Girl whattup?"
She turns to me with annoyance and I realized something. She was about to kiss Brett. I mentally face palm myself. Then she looks at me. Like actually looks at me. And she's very taken aback.
"Emily, what are you wearing?"
"Clothes."
"No duh you big idiot. Why are you dressed differently?"
"Oh no reason." I reply and look off into the distance to seem suspicious.
"Oh my god. You have a crush."
"Even better."
"A date."
"Better."
"A date with your crush."
"Yup."
"OMG OMG OMG OMG is that why you wanted us to come over after school?!?"
"Yeah to help me get ready."
"Aw Emily I'm so happy for you. Who is the lucky man?"
"Bryan."
"The new kid?"
"Yeah."
"He's hot. Did he ask you? Of course he asked you. You're to shy."
"Hey!"
"It's true."
"Yea, it is."
"Hey! Em!" Calls out a not so mysterious and sexy voice. I look at Bethany and she winks.
"Hey Bryan."
"You look gorgeous today."
I blush and I sneak a look at Bethany. She looks like she's almost in tears.
"Bryan, this is Bethany. My best friend. And this is her boyfriend, Brett."
"Nice to meet you both." he shakes their hands and flashes them a smile. Bethany almost swoons and Brett seems intrigued.
"Hey bro, do you play baseball?"
"A little bit, why?"
"Why don't you come to practice tomorrow? We'd love to see what you can do."
"Sure thing man."
The bell rings and we're off to class. Surprisingly, all four of us have the same first hour. The class gets started and slowly, the day goes by. After what seems like forever, the day is over and me and Bethany are headed to my car. I hadn't even run into Billy that day. I guess the odds are in my favor today. But that's when everything went wrong.
