2. What's Yours To Keep, You Don't Really Share

⬆️Khalifa and Reminisce

Happy reading- I wanted to do a double update today but things happened and now I couldn't.

Unfortunately for Kaiden, he wasn't the only one in a broken family.

As he was making his way over to Josiah's house, in the house just across the street where Khalifa and Reminisce had lived - the two of them were sort of in a fight.

Khalifa and Reminisce were twins, whose parents were on holiday so they had called their grandmother Victoria to watch over them.

They would have gone to her house but it was easier for her to come here. Besides, their neighbourhood was safer anyway.

Reminisce was currently mad at Khalifa because he had stolen some money she had gotten from this successful art show she had hosted yesterday.

Instead of him asking her for money, he had just decided to spend it on some new headphones earlier on today. She had found out and she wasn't happy about it at all.

"Reminisce, I'm sorry - I didn't mean to steal your money!"

"Oh, so you're saying 2K euros just magically left the jar where I keep my money?" She had shouted at him, he was on one end of the table and she was on the other end.

She had raised over 200K euros and even if Khalifa didn't steal anything.

He still stole something.

"If I had asked you, you wouldn't have let me take it."

"Yeah but that doesn't mean that it's right for you to steal it! Do you know how hard it was for me to raise that money?"

This had only been going on for five minutes, and now Reminisce was chasing Khalifa down the house as if they were eight and not eighteen instead.

Their grandmother Victoria was talking to one of her friends on her phone as she was knitting something, but she had to tell them that she would have called her back after all of the racket they were making.

She didn't normally shout although Khalifa and Reminisce was really doing her head in with everything.

"Hey hey hey!" She had shut them up immediately, with the twins fighting over the headphones. "What is going on with you two?"

They had started talking above each other like little children with Victoria rolling her eyes and facepalming herself.

She had then told them to be quiet, with her going to Reminisce first, asking her what had happened.

"Yeah sure. Why would you ask Reminisce what happened?" Khalifa frowned, folding his arms. "So she can reminisce about everything bad she did?"

"Because I know she's not at fault here," Victoria had replied, with Khalifa groaning even though she was right.

He had just hated taking responsibility like that. Which was a seriously huge flaw he needed to work on.

"Anyway, what happened?"

Victoria didn't really have any children of her own even though she was seventy. She only had the twin's mother but that was it.

She had grandchildren though, and lots of them. Khalifa and Reminisce were the only siblings in their house but they had a lot of cousins.

Reminisce had given a full on statement from what had happened from her perspective.

You know that art show I did yesterday?

She nodded.

Khalifa stole some of the money I raised there to buy these headphones we were just fighting about.

They were gold with black stars and were customised with his name on them. He needed 2K euros to get it.

So not only did he spend everything he stole.

He also didn't have change for Reminisce.

"Khalifa why did you steal the money?"

"Because if I had asked her, she wouldn't have given it to me," he sighed. "Besides. I'm always living under Reminisce's shadow anyway. She's so much better than me and I guess I got jealous."

"I'm sorry. You guess?!"

Khalifa gave Reminisce a dirty look.

His parents had compared him to her a lot, but not intentionally.

They didn't even know because Khalifa didn't say anything.

Either way, Reminisce had this art show, he had nothing except these rap lyrics he had given up on because rapping was surely not in his expertise at all.

He didn't even know what he was talented at.

"Don't say that. You got accepted into Santorini State of the Arts with your sister," Victoria reminded him. "That's the best creative arts school in all of Greece."

"The problem with you is you give way up too easily, you're so high maintenance and you barely get motivated at all at the same time."

Khalifa didn't believe he was high maintenance at all and was about to disagree with her on that until his phone buzzed.

Reminisce's did too.

Seemed as though they had gotten the same message, and they did.

Major sitch, Josiah had texted them, both of them - respectively though. Come to my house ASAP.

After Khalifa had read that, he had raised his face up from his phone, asking his sister if Josiah had just texted her.

She had nodded.

"He said that I should go to his house ASAP. What do I do?"

"You go to his house ASAP." Khalifa deadpanned, rolling his eyes. "I got the same message. Let's go. We're weren't doing anything anyway."

Josiah had lived just the road from their house like with Kaiden. But the twins didn't really know Kaiden like that.

They didn't even like him.

Savannah didn't like Reminisce because she had falsely accused her of cheating in a test, mistaking her for someone else.

It probably wasn't a mistake though. Reminisce knew Savannah had feelings for Khalifa, who was with someone else.

Back at that time anyway.

Reminisce had seen the way she had looked at him, like she wanted something bad to happen to his girlfriend.

And things kind of did but more on that later.

The twins didn't like Kaiden because they had thought that he was just stuck up. He had acted like a know it all and he was so negative.

He actually wasn't.

His family life just wasn't the best.

Plus he was never really taken seriously by anyone for things that were way beyond his control like his height and the way he looked etc.

The twins had said bye to Victoria, with Khalifa promising her that they would have been back shortly.

This whole thing wasn't over though, with Reminisce reminding him that he had to pay her back.

"I'll pay you back if I want to. Or when I want to pay you back."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

As she was ranting behind him, Khalifa had proclaimed that he couldn't hear her, covering his hands in his ears as they had strolled to Josiah's house.

Last but not least was Savannah, who was working at her mother Lilibet's hair shop right now.

It was known as Lilibet's Luxuries and it had been running for a decade onwards.

She had learnt a lot about hair from her, with the shop being five minutes away from their house.

As she was drying someone's hair, she had gotten a text message from Josiah.

It had said the same thing.

Major sitch, Josiah had texted her. Come to my house ASAP

In his defence, he didn't know that she wasn't at home at the moment.

So Savannah had texted him that. Overall, her home life wasn't too bad. She was an only child like Kaiden, but she had actually gotten along with Lilibet more often than now.

Her father had died and so did her brother, approximately eight years before she was born.

I'm not at home. I'm currently helping my mum at her hair salon.

When do you finish?

Two hours.

Can't you go on break?

Just went on one. And I'll get in trouble if I just leave without my mum's consent

Girl, you sneak out all the time. He wasn't wrong. What you chatting about? It won't take long. I promise.

Sighing, Savannah had looked at the time.

It was approaching five o'clock.

She had given herself a thirty minute time limit for this meeting, telling Lilibet that she would have been right back.

Her client was talking to her about her recent breakup- not anymore though because Savannah had to leave right now.

Lilibet had told her that she wasn't allowed to leave, but it was too late as Savannah had already left the salon anyway.

"Savannah?"

Nothing.

"Savannah??"

She sighed.

She would have told her off when she had next seen her but to be fair - she never wanted to come. Lilibet had just forced her to.

***************

"Are you sure I'm not the only person at this meeting?"

"Chill, K. The rest of them will be here in a sec."

Kaiden was at Josiah's house right now, sitting on his sitting room sofa.

The rest of them were still making their way there, goodness knew what was taking them so long (Savannah's case was understandable as she wasn't actually at home) but not the twins' much.

He was worried as he wasn't allowed to leave the house. His cousin Sydney Sierra was playing with Josiah's younger brother upstairs - he had a younger brother and an older sister.

Khalifa and Reminisce had arrived, followed by Savannah.

But when they had all seen each other, they all had the same reaction.

Oh hell no!

Was what everybody except Savannah had said, who had just asked why is this she devil here? indirecting Reminisce.

They had all started talking above each other again, with Josiah sighing. He had genuinely forgotten they didn't like each other.

But he did silence them.

"I should have asked you who was coming before I came here," Savannah had grimaced, slowly folding her arms.

"Look, I know you guys don't like each other but I brought you guys here today because we just graduated from the same school. Plus I realised we're all going to the same art school or university," Josiah had explained, in the middle of everyone. "Besides. We all live in the same neighbourhood, so we couldn't really avoid each other even if we wanted to."

If he had put it that way...

They had guessed being here wasn't so bad after all.

Josiah had even asked them to put their differences aside for this meeting as they had talked.

Reluctantly, they had all said yes, and they had started.

Khalifa wanted to know what the major sitch was, sitting on the arm of one of the sofas.

"There wasn't one. Just wanted y'all to meet each other before we left."

They didn't take a joke very well, having a go at him for wasting their time until he smiled a bit.

Then he laughed.

"I was tripping' y'all," he had sighed, sitting down. "I called y'all here because I can't lie. I'm scared. I'm scared of this school. As in, going there soon. Starting a new journey. And I figured what better way to talk it out with people who are going to start it with me?"
