Chapter 2: Goodbye Forever
Reader's POV
I just finished another class filled day at school when I got the call, the call that changed my life. Not in a good way.
"Is this (Reader?)", A voice which sounded like a paramedic asked
"Yes?" I replied concerned
"I'm so sorry to tell you this, your parents were killed in a head-on collision. We need you to come to the hospital to confirm the bodies. Where are you?"
I nearly dropped my phone in shock, instead, I started sobbing quietly. I made my way to a back wall, trying to hold back my tears. Everything I had in me to keep myself together broke down as I balled my eyes out, crying as loud as my lungs could force me. Whatever voice remained inside me had no strength left to speak.
"I-I'm at my high school."
"Arrangements have been made to pick you up." The paramedic replied
"Once again, I am deeply sorry for your loss", said the paramedic before she hung up
My whole world was torn down by a phone call and some dumbass driver!
"FUCK! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!" I shouted.
I nearly took everything out of my backpack and trashed all my stuff. An ambulance pulled up next to me.
"Are you (Reader?)"
"Yes," I said looking up, tears still fogging up my vision
I soon recognized her voice, it was the same paramedic.
My knees didn't want to lift me, but I forced them to as I walked to the ambulance, getting in the back. The one paramedic got out and joined me in the back while the other took the wheel.
She immediately hugged me, which seemed odd.
"Again, I'm sorry that I had to tell you this, I can't imagine the grief you're feeling right now. I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy."
I hugged her tighter.
"Jenny," She said
"(Reader)," I replied
"Do you have any other family to stay with?" Jenny asked
"Not here, no."
"Where then?"
"My parents used to tell me about this cousin I have and his father that live in Paris. Name's Adrien, Adrien Agreste."
"Do you have their contact information?"
".......No."
My heart dropped again
This whole time, Jenny never let go of me, I didn't want to. When we soon separated, her facial expression changed to one that seemed to recognize me.
"Have......have I seen you before?" I asked
"You don't remember, but I've seen you before. Two years ago when your Mother collapsed, I saved her life."
She paused.
"I only wish I could do it a second time." She said trying to be strong
My weak arms pulled her closer to me as we jostled around in the ambulance.
Making at least 4 more turns, we arrived at the hospital.
"You're gonna have to carry me there, because I can't walk another step," I said stricken with tears
The ambulance doors were opened as Jenny carried me in her arms to the morgue. The room was depressing, the only 2 bodybags that were on the tables I knew were my parents. Jenny released me from her as I struggled to stand on my feet. A Coroner unzipped one of the body bags, revealing the face of my father. I only teared up as a reply, the next bag was unzipped, my mother's face emerged.
"T......That's them." I faintly said
I saw evidence bags with their stuff in each.
"These were what we found on their persons."
My Mom's phone was amongst her jewelry and wallet.
"Do I need gloves before I grab their things?" I asked
Jenny and the Coroner shook their heads. I grabbed Mom's phone and scrolled through her contacts finding Gabriel Agreste.
"Now I have Gabriel Agreste's number," I said
Jenny took the phone as it started ringing.
My focus turned back to the bodies of my parents, never in their lives would've they imagined how this is how they'd go. The world's greatest Mom and Dad to raise me are now gone forever. A sense of rage overcame me, skipping the first stage of grief.
"D-did they catch the guy who hit them?" I asked the Coroner
"They did, under the influence."
"I want him dead. I want him to die in prison and rot in Hell!" I declared not caring that they heard me
"Justice will be served." The Coroner told me
I turned back to Jenny, who just hung up.
"Gabriel Agreste said he's arranged a pick up for you after the funeral service." She said
I looked down at the cold, blank floor.
"He also said that the only reason he's paying the expenses and making these arrangements is to keep up his positive image in the public eye."
My heart sank.
Three Days Later
The day of the funeral was beyond heart-wrenching. Apart from me, and a few other relatives of mine, not a lot of people attended. We exchanged hugs and condolences. I placed a rose on each of Mom and Dad's coffins, my tears hitting the flowers, and their coffins. Before the caskets were lowered, I turned around and walked away. My mind couldn't watch them go down, this was the part I always hated about funerals. As I walked back to the pavement, a black limo pulled up.
The window rolled down revealing the driver dressed for the service.
"Are you (Reader?)"
"Yes," I said
"The arrangements with Mr. Agreste have been made, your bags are in the trunk. I'm taking you to the airport."
I turned back seeing the Priest do the sign of the cross, the caskets now in the ground, and walked away. We shook hands one last time before I got in.
The driver brought me to a runway, the plane glowed in the sunset as the sun's rays bounced off it.
"This is it. You need help with your bags?" The driver said
Not knowing how many there were, I figured I'd say yes.
"Yeah, sure," I said flatly
He opened the trunk and I saw my brown suitcase, duffle bag, and my acoustic zip case.
"I got the guitar and a duffle bag," I said
Walking towards the stairs, my brown hair getting tossed by the light wind tickling my nerves, I prepared myself for whatever is next for me.
'So, this is how my time in the states ends. On a runway to Paris, losing my parents, wearing my black suit.'
The driver handed my suitcase to the flight attendant, putting it in the overhead compartment. She did the same with my guitar.
"Thanks, really," I said to the driver trying to sound semi-alright
"It's alright, and again I'm so sorry for your loss. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy." He said
"Bon voyage." He said as the door closed
I waved back, the door clicked shut. Looking at the interior, it seemed to be beyond the first class. Way beyond that. Seats that reclined, expensive drinks, everything. I was the only one on, thank God.
"Do you want anything to drink (Reader)? We have champagne, wine, sodas. Unless you want water?" She said
"Wine, Franzia Merlot. You have that?" I asked
"Yes, excellent choice. Ice?"
"One, thank you."
Sliding my duffle bag under a seat by the window, I looked at the sunset runway, hearing the plane's engine start-up. Followed by the signature fasten seat belt beep.

"Ladies and gentleman this is your captain speaking, if you look out to your left you can see a beautiful sunset on the horizon. We thank you once again for choosing Agreste Non-Stop flights to Paris. Expect some mild turbulence along the way, and we should be there in about 10 hours. So get some shuteye." The Pilot said
Seat belt buckled, clutching my necklace saying a prayer, the plane took off.
A while later, I heard the same beep. The flight attendant spoke.
"Ladies and gentlemen the captain has turned off the fasten seatbelt sign, you are now free to walk about the cabin."
Another flight attendant came forward and woke me up.
"Sir?" She asked
I opened my eyes as she handed me my wine.
"Your wine (Reader,) Franzia Merlot."
"Thanks," I said taking a few sips
A flat package was on the seat to my right with 'Open Me' written in sharpie.
Inside was a phone and a number, I dialed it hearing the phone ring only once.
"(Reader,) I assume this is you." Mr. Agreste spoke
"Yes," I replied
"(Reader,) cousin or not I'm only doing this to look good in the public eye. Nothing more, nothing less. No condolences will be offered from me. That is all." Mr. Agreste said as the line went dead
I left the phone on the package, as I finished the last of my wine.
"Seems real nice," I said flatly
9 Hours Later
I awoke as the plane landed on a private runway, seeing another limo and a kid with blonde hair about my height standing by it.
My phone beeped as the plane came to a halt.
Hey (Reader,) welcome to Paris.
The door opened, I unbuckled myself grabbing my duffle bag and suitcase. The flight attendant who served my wine grabbed the guitar case.
Stepping out into a foreign city for the first time had me blown away, to say the least.
'First time for everything.' I thought aloud
"Hey (Reader,) I'm Adrien. Your cousin. I'm so sorry for your loss." He said
I avoided eye contact with him, giving my reply.
"Thanks," I said
"I'll get those for you," Adrien said grabbing my bags putting them in the trunk
"I guess this is my new life," I said getting into the limo with him
Hey! First off, thanks so much for being this patient. I wanted to give a backstory before I got into the main parts. Thanks to my friend squd30545 for inspiring me and helping me write this!
