Chapter 5 - I'm Out

I was held in the cells until I was needed. Erwin had called me out for a "meeting". So the recruits restrained me and held me until we reached the office. "Release her." Erwin said. They let me go and I was placed in the center of the room. Erwin sat at his desk and I looked around the room. "Love what you did to the place Erwin." I said. "Clean, new desk, more books, and new chairs. Oh, as well as a new carpet. Nice." I said. Erwin's face was still serious. "L/N. I'm here to-" He started. I finished, "To negotiate whether I join you guys or be sent back, killed, or held captive until I agree." Erwin nodded. "I see you still remember." He said. I sighed. "I'll stay here. If," I began. Erwin listened. "If I can choose my room, cook my own meals, release Nightshade, and I'm a co-leader of The Special Operations Squad. Also, my files will be kept between you and me only." I said. Erwin looked as if he was in thought. "Those are my conditions. Otherwise I don't have a problem breaking out of the basement." I said. Erwin looked up. "Those terms will be met. Congrats, l/n. You are now a part of the Survey Corps." Erwin said standing. The cadets behind me spoke. "But sir, what if-" Erwin cut them off. "She knows what she is doing. And I do too. So stay in your positions Cadets." They mumbled under their breath and went back. I knew what I was going to have to do, but this was pretty much the only way to break the unending chain of being caught and released. I knew already of what I knew would happen. "Alright, since we've been through everything already. We don't need you to do anything. So choose any vacant room and you will stay there. I will notify the Corporal that you are being placed in the Special Ops Squad. The release of Nightshade will happen. The private kitchen is yours to use. And your files were always under my supervision only." Erwin said. I have a nod. "Well Commander, here we go again." I said. "Yep, here we are go." He said. We shook hands and I dismissed myself. I walked the halls and found my old room. I walked in. My belongings were still here. When I left I had left very few things. I picked up a trinket I had left behind. It was covered in dust. So had many of the things in the room. There was a bed, a desk, and a dresser. A closet was embedded into the wall. My uniform was custom made for my small body when I was younger, but now I would have to deal with the clothes I had now until Erwin got my uniform prepared. He had my measurements already recorded. He got them down when I was in the basement. I grabbed a bandana from my pocket and tied my hair. I decided I would clean to pass the time. I left the room to find the cleaning supplies. I walked the halls, ignoring the looks and chatter from the people that I had passed. I reached the supply closet and grabbed the necessary supplies I needed to clean up my old room. I got a hold of the supplies and left to my room. I grabbed a rag and began the cleaning. Time passed and I finished up the cleaning. I made sure that there was not a single speck of dust or dirt lingering. I continued on my way. I looked out the window and it seemed that dinner was being served. I sighed. "This place hasn't changed much then." I said to myself. I heard distant footsteps approaching my hall. They got closer as I walked back to my closet. I inspected the closet closely. The footsteps stopped at my doorway. "What is it?" I said. Levi's voice spoke, "Tch, damn brat. I heard you're in my squad. I-" I cut him off. "I'm not in your squad, I'm your co-leader of the squad." I said. Levi scowled, "Well, anyway. Here's your damn uniform." He threw the bundle of clothing on the ground in front of me. "Great." I said. Levi looked at me for a brief moment in confusion, "What is it?" He asked as if he was annoyed. "You got the uniform dirty and now there's dirt in this room." I said. I bent down to pick up the clothes. I looked at them. "Damn it, well I guess I'll have to deal with it. When I'm done I'll just re do the floor again." I mumbled. "Tch, damn right. The floor is a mess." Levi sneered. "Just go, corporal. You're not needed as of now." I said. Levi glared at me. "Ok, listen here now brat. You are a cadet, not my superior. I am a corporal. That means I am of higher status, and you can't dismiss me, only I can dismiss you." Levi said. He looked angered. I chuckled. "Well, 'corporal'. That's where you're wrong." I started. Levi looked confused and replaced that look with his usual bored look. "I'm actually am not a cadet. I am Sergeant Major l/n of the Survey Corps. So, that means I'm basically a higher status as you. And technically I can dismiss you." I said. Levi furrowed his brows. "That can't be right. I've been here longer than you have. I-" Levi started. "Don't believe me, ask Erwin yourself. And I've been in the Survey Corps for about, 15 years. Compared to your 7?" I said. Levi raised his hand as if to hit me. "Striking the superior means I can de-rank you, send you to jail, or even punish you. So I suggest not too." I said standing there. Levi seemed to growl at me. Levi stomped off and I brushed off most of the dirt that gathered on the bundle.
