Three
George stood in shock as he watched Quackity shake the boy's hand. The taller boy seemed to notice the distress on his face, throwing a smirk in his direction. Sapnap stood with his mouth agape, a small smile slowly forming.
"Well that was unexpected." He said. "I'm Sapnap."
"Hello Sapnap. And who might you be?" Dream asked, turning to Karl.
"I-I'm Karl! Karl Jacobs. It's nice to meet you!" Karl responded, shifting his weight from one leg to the other.
The blond didn't answer, instead shifting his gaze to George once again. "You must be George."
"Yeah." George muttered, not making eye contact.
"This is gonna be fun." The boy said with a low chuckle.
"Okayyy... Let me bring you to your room now." Quackity added, moving to stand in between them, turning George around by the shoulders and pushing him towards the direction of the exit. As they walked Quackity moved to the front of the group, making conversation with Karl and Sapnap. That left George in the back, with Dream trailing closely behind. He kept stepping on the back of George's heels.
They were led into a large hallway that George could have sworn he's been in before. He was starting to get uneasy with all of the familiarity of this place. He crossed his arms over his chest again, picking up his pace a bit to catch up with the rest of the group.
The hallway seemed to stretch on for miles, the sound of his footsteps bouncing off the shiny white tiles as they walked. The walls were made of concrete which explained the low temperature. He rubbed his hands over his arms in attempt to warm himself up.
Dream fell into step beside him, leaning down to whisper into his ear. "Are you cold, puppy?"
The warm breath against his ear sent a shiver down his spine. Dream noticed, chuckling at George as his face turned red.
"I'm fine, thank you very much." George replied, keeping his eyes forward.
"If you say so, puppy." Dream sighed, standing up straight again.
"Call me puppy again and we're gonna have issues." George snapped, cursing himself for engaging. He was surprised at how easily the harsh words came out.
"Oooh, is that a threat or a promise?" Dream asked, glancing down at George.
"Shut up."
Soon they arrived at an intersection in the hallway. They turned right and saw that doors lined each wall, with big black writing over each one.
"These are the rooms. The girls' are to the left. If we went straight instead of right, it would have led us to the Community Room, the labs, the cafeteria, the recreational area, and the showers. Pretty much everything is on that side of the building. They set it all away from the Meeting Hall for a reason, but I don't know what it is. Walking that hallway every time I have to go to a staff meeting is a pain in my ass." Quackity said, walking up to one of the doors with "B4" painted above it.
Pushing open the door, he stepped in with all of them following behind. George's face dropped when he saw the interior. Two sets of bunk beds were set up, one against each side wall of the room.
"You have got to be kidding me." George muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Sapnap, wanna bunk with me?" Karl asked excitedly, grabbing his wrist. He shot George an apologetic look before letting Karl pull him to the bunks on the right. "I call the top!" Karl squealed, climbing up the latter before Sapnap grabbed him by the waist and pulled him back down.
George didn't even ask which one Dream wanted, he just walked towards the bunks on the left and started climbing up the latter.
"Woah, slow down there Georgie." Dream said, walking over to the beds.
"Am I Georgie or puppy? Make up your mind." George scoffed, pulling himself up.
Dream just rolled his eyes before changing the subject. "You sure you don't want the bottom?" He asked, suppressing a smile as he looked up at George.
"What's that supposed to mean?" George asked, finally looking down at the other boy. He raised an eyebrow in response and realization flashed over George's face. "Ugh, gross!" He scoffed, laying down on the bed.
He could hear Sapnap and Karl laughing from the other side of the room. He stuck his middle finger up in the air and they only laughed harder.
"So, you each have some clothes in the dresser. People will come in every day to clean the room, so they'll take your dirty laundry too. Each group has one shower, so don't take too long. Body wash and shampoo are in the showers. I'll be here tomorrow morning to give you your schedules and bring you to breakfast. See you then." He said, walking out of the room and closing the door behind him.
After a few minutes of silence, Karl spoke.
"I'm boorrreeeddd." He whined, shuffling around in his bed.
"Go to sleep." Dream said sharply. What a grouch.
"George, get your boyfriend under control." Sapnap said, rolling on his side to face him.
"Shut up Sapnap." George replied groggily. He was just about to fall asleep before Karl spoke up.
"No, but for real, we need to talk. Am I the only one who can't remember anything from before we got here?" Sapnap asked while sitting up in his bed.
This caught George's attention. He too sat up and looked over at the raven haired boy. "No, I can't remember anything either. I don't even know what my parents look like." He said, a hint of sadness evident in his words. Although he couldn't remember them, he still missed his parents. He felt homesick, even if he didn't know where his home was.
"Yeah, me neither!" Karl explained, shooting up. "I don't remember any people or places. But it's weird how it works. Like, I can remember times where I, for example, played Hide and Seek, but I can't remember when I played or who I played with. It's like that for everything else. I remember going to school, but I don't remember what it looked like or any of my friends."
They all sat in thought, contemplating what all of it could mean. "Dream? What about you?"
"What? Oh, uh, yeah. I don't remember anything either." He replied quickly.
"And, like, why were we chosen? I mean, I don't know about you guys, but I most certainly am not a 'promising individual'. What does that even mean? Do the kids here have powers or something?" Karl asked, swinging his legs over the side of his bed.
"That would be pretty fucking awesome, dude. Imagine we wake up tomorrow and I can fly or some shit." Sapnap added.
Dream had been laying down the whole time, and had finally decided to sit up when he realized the conversation wasn't ending any time soon.
"What power do you think I'd get?" Karl asked, playing along.
"Hmm... Probably teleportation. George would get invisibility and Dream would get-"
"I'd get the power to shut you up." Dream cut in, rubbing a hand over his face.
"Are you always this hostile?" Sapnap asked, pretending to be offended. As he spoke he hopped down from his bed, taking a seat on the bottom bunk next to Karl. He'd ended up getting the top bunk even though Karl called it.
"Yes." He responded shortly. Shifting his gaze up to George, he added, "Well puppy, are you gonna come down here?"
George rolled his eyes and shuffled closer to the wall. "No shot." He said, pulling the blankets over his legs.
"Looks like I'll just have to come up."
George's eyes widened at his words. "Um, no, you won't."
Suddenly he was looking at a pair of yellow eyes staring back at him. Before he knew it, Dream was up and in his bed, sitting next to him against the wall. George scooted away as far as possible, only for Dream to move closer to him.
"Is this really necessary?" George asked, shifting uncomfortably.
"Ooh! Top bunk party! Let's go!" Karl yelled, scrambling up the ladder to Sapnap's bed.
George pulled the blanket up further, causing a tent to form near his stomach. Dream looked down and his eyes went wide. "Got a problem there?" He asked, motioning towards George's crotch.
"Wha- oh god!" He exclaimed as he flattened the blanket down. "Get your mind out of the gutter, Dream. Jesus."
"My bad, I'm just used to having that effect on people I guess."
George slapped his arm as he chuckled. He put his hands in his lap, looking down at them. The silence was just starting to get awkward when Karl spoke again.
"So, what now?"
Nobody really knew how to answer that. What was going to happen? Were they just going to live here and be tested on forever?
"I dunno. But whatever happens, we all have each other. Right?" Sapnap asked, looking to Karl for reassurance. Karl responded by leaning his head on the other's shoulder and rubbing his arm.
"Ugh, get a room." George sighed, faking a gag as the other boys laughed.
"Are you jealous, puppy? We could always cudd-"
"Nope. Get out." George cut in, pushing Dream towards the edge of the bed.
"Oh come on, I was just kidding." He replied, letting out a small wheeze.
"I don't care. Out." George kept pushing until Dream was practically hanging off the bed. He jumped down and looked back up at George.
"I can't believe I just got rejected." He joked, pretending to cry as he sat down on his own bed.
"Get used to it." George responded, flopping down so that he was laying on his back again.
"I forgot to ask this before, but George, why do you have an accent?" Karl asked, not moving from his spot next to Sapnap.
"I was born in England. I don't know when I moved to the States, but I guess that's something else I remember about myself. I'm not sure why the accent hasn't faded." He replied.
"No way! You were born in England? Are you a chav, George?" Sapnap laughed.
"Ugh, no. Gross."
"Is there anything else you guys remember about yourselves? Besides your name?" Karl asked, trying to keep the conversation alive even though he could hear the tiredness in George's voice.
"Uh, I know I'm 19. And I'm also colorblind."
Dream quickly stood up again, peering over the side of the top bunk to look at George. "Stop it. You're short and colorblind? God, Georgie, pick a struggle."
Karl and Sapnap burst into laughter, leaning on each other to keep themselves upright.
"Will you get out of my face?" George asked, turning his back to the boy. Dream just wheezed in response as he sat back down onto his bed.
"How are you 19 years old and the same height as a toddler?"
"You have no room to speak. You look like the fucking Jolly Green Giant." George retaliated, sinking deeper into his pillow. He could hear Karl cackling on the other side of the room, and a satisfied grin appeared on his face.
"Now if you could all kindly shut the fuck up, I'd like to get at least an hour of sleep tonight."
After that, the room fell silent, and George drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
