Cold Spell
In Blaze's dreams, Daphne's message is becoming clearer.
Professor Wizgiz's exam was really unusual; the opportunity to get a top grade without any effort is really tempting. But honesty is the best policy and knowing how to resist the temptation to cheat is the best answer to a classroom assignment.
-
"That movie was freaky!" Y/n exclaimed.
"Yeah, you were hiding in my shirt the whole time," Blaze pointed out, getting a smack from her.
"At least it had a happy ending," Tecna pointed out.
"Yeah. Nothing brings a family back together like having to fight an evil demon, and an army of zombies, escape a few explosions, and survive a massive tidal wave!" Blaze joked.
"And yet my parents are still separated!" Stella gave a small giggle that died down quickly.
Musa sighed, looking up at the moon and stars. "Movies about parents always bum me out. I mean, they make me miss my mum like crazy."
"That movie scared me! Can we please stop talking about it?" Flora asked a little aggressively.
"But Flora there were blood and guts and -"
"Y/n, please!"
-
"Hey, remember when she was locked in that chambe?"
"Yeah, with that slimy ghost thing?"
"Blaze! Don't encourage bad behavior!"
"Sorry."
"Hold on," Tecna warned, stopping just outside the doorway. "Did anybody just hear that growling sound?"
"It was probably Y/n's stomach," Blaze said as Flora opened the door. "She ate all those gummy bugs at the movie."
"Sure, Blaze. It was Y/n who scarfed down the candy," Musa said, rolling her eyes.
"Actually, it was." She gave Blaze a hug. "Night, Blazey-bug."
"Night, Twinkle Toes."
-
"Stella, dear? I don't know if your father had said anything to you, but he and I..."
"Your mother will be moving out of the palace."
"Your father and I are getting a divorce."
"Your mother and I are getting a divorce."
A mirror appeared in front of Stella, where she started dancing in front of. Not paying attention, a giant brown wave melted out of the mirror and crashed over her and tried to drown her. From its sticky substance, she realized it was s chocolate milkshake.
Her parents' faces flashed, turning into the sun and moon, which became the whole people in front of her, looking off blankly. She tried to reach out for them, but they disappeared, leaving her alone.
-
Stella woke up with a start, sitting up and screaming.
"What is it?"
"Is it Stella?"
"Let's go."
-
"What happened?" Y/n asked when the Winx had gathered in Stella's room on her bed.
"Um, I don't know. I was dreaming."
"Stella, you poor thing," Flora cooed. "You must have had a nightmare. You remember what it was about?"
"No, I don't. But it was much more than just a nightmare. It was as if someone was watching me."
Musa stood up and stretched. "Oh, well, I don't understand what the big fuss is about. She's just freaking out 'cause of that movie we saw tonight. She'll be fine." She went back to bed, the others following her.
"Yell if you need anything, Stella," Y/n said before shutting the door, leaving Stella alone in the dark.
-
"Musa...Musa...let me sing you a song, darling...let's sing together..."
Back on Melody, Musa found her mother on a town bench, looking weak and frail. She tried to run to her, but was slowed so that when she got to her, she had disappeared. Everything went black. Behind her, she saw Riven and Darcy, Darcy topless as Riven licked her neck down to her chest.
"Riven...get away from her...RIVEN!"
-
"Warning. Operator 47896 has caused a -"
Lightening cracked and a rainstorm of numbers came; a brainstorm, if you will.
"Warning. Fatal error in -"
Out of it, Tecna tried to escape, screaming, seizing up as of in a robotic malfunction.
"System shutting down. Audio now. No emotion. More productive. Output increasing. Overload alert. Overload alert. System destablizing. System destablizing. Losing code. Losing mind. Total bre - bre - bre - breakdown - breakdown - breakdown -"
During this process, her arm ripped from its socket, electricity sparking from the wires that it was connected to.
She was dropped in a poorly-rendered Magix with no texture to anything, only the models of the buildings. She saw Timmy walking through the streets, blocky and glitchy. His glasses were in his hands, his eyes painted on instead of in his head. He put them back on, obviously not able to see with his blank look.
Tecna began to hyperventilate until she felt someone touch her shoulder. Turning swiftly, she saw Y/n with a sweet smile, trying to calm her down. "Don't worry, Tecna. It's just a glitch in the - glitch -" She began to flicker as if she were glitched, not aligned with the rest of her body. "- it's just - in - Tecna - in the -"
-
Utterly freaked out, Tecna sat up, checking her arm. It was still in place. She had not had a seizure in years, so it was odd for her to think about it now. She put her head in her hands, trying to breathe, which only turned into hyperventilating until she began to scream, alerting Musa, who was hanging halfway off the bed. She fell off with a thud and the door flung open, Y/n, Flora, and Stella rushing in.
"Tecna?!" Y/n cried, rushing to her bedside. "What's wrong? What happened?" On the other side of the room was Musa, huddled in the corner. "Musa?! Did somebody break in?!"
"N - no..." Tecna replied, trying to take deep breaths.
"I feel so empty..." Musa whispered into the night. The girls looked at her, which she noticed right away, letting her fists ball on her knees, looking down intently at them. "I was dreaming about my mother. Then, the dream turned into my worst nightmare: a place with no music and no love."
"That's strange. I, too, was having a horrible dream," Tecna said, not working too specify.
"It's because of that scary movie, isn't it?" Y/n groaned. "Am I next? Because I'd rather not meet Lucifer or have my besties burn in a fire, ya know?"
While Flora tried to shush them, Squeaker got up and ran out of the bedroom. "I think Squeaker is sensing what I'm sensing," she said, following her out into the lounge area, where Mirta still sat. She sat behind her, l licking her paw. "It's about Mirta, right, Squeaker?" Flora reached out and let Squeaker nuzzle against her hand, then jump off and lay on her cat bed, purring contentedly.
Flora's hand, still out, took the energy from the pumpkin and a hologram of Mirta appeared in her hand. "Flora! Oh, thank goodness you were able to contact me. I'm so glad that creature hasn't hurt you. But I saw it. I saw it creep around in here and then at the first light of dawn it just took off. We have to get ready for when it comes back tonight."
"I'm losing her!" Flora cried as the magic began to retreat. "Mirta?! Mirta!" But Mirta was gone, leaving Flora to longingly stare at the pumpkin.
-
"Why am I here again?" Blaze asked, rolling out the sleeping bag.
Stella grabbed onto his arm, playfully grinning up at him. "Because we need a big, strong man to protect us ~"
Aloof, pulled his arm away. "Text Sky, then."
"Ya know, funny thing is I did. But he's away at a specialized training camp before the exhibition. It would take him at least a day to get here."
"Did you hear from Brenda?" he asked suddenly, eyes sparkling with hope.
"Sorry, no." She waved him off and went to her room. "Anyway, g'night, Blaze, girls."
Everyone went to their own room except Y/n, who lied on the floor next to Blaze in her own bag. "Like how we used to do this on the weekends, huh?"
His head rested on his hand, a lazy smile forming. "Yeah...I remember."
They looked into each other's eyes a moment longer, until Blaze's started to slip shut. "G'night, Y/n..." He rolled over, a sharp pain in his head suddenly that he grabbed for.
"Blaze? Are you okay?" Y/n asked, sitting up.
"Yeah, just...tired," he lied as images began to flash in his mind, alternating between Y/n and Brenda. He tried to keep the steady rhythm of his breath, but no matter how hard he tried, they continued to flash by.
"Hey, what are friends for?"
"It's beautiful, Blaze. Thank you."
-
It was too cold. Y/n could feel herself freezing up as a giant dragon circled around her, engulfing her.
Inside was Spencer and the girls, turning their backs to her one by one. She tried to reach out, but was unable to get near them.
"Y/n."
She looked behind her and saw Blaze. Unable to run, she held out her hand, but he turned away, disgusted. Brenda appeared, Blaze's arm around her. They both turned and left her.
-
Y/n jolted up, the dream shattering. She saw what had stopped it: Blaze restraining it and pulling the dream monster away from her, eyes glowing with that same rage from the swamp. The Winx girls came in to see what was going on. "Magic Winx!"
-
Tecna chopped and punched at the air with her arms, then knelt on one knee, arms crossed in peace signs, emitting an energy from them.
Her hands went into a fist, a sleeve appearing on her arm with digital accompaniment. The same happened at her torso, a lavender bodysuit and high-heeled boots appearing, then with her pendant and wings, which were instead bars that wrapped around themselves. Finally, a matching helmet was placed on her head.
She opened her eyes, a glider coming out of the bars and letting her fly back, then dissipating when she landed, her hands on her hips.
-
The tiles under Musa lit up as she stepped on them. She twirled on the dance floor while they twinkled, then crossed her arms with peace signs.
Red boots appeared out of purple pixels. She threw up her hands, a red top with one strap coming in as the boots did with a thin pink cloth in between, covering her stomach.
She kicked her feet up while a music disk spun under her and her wings and a pair of headphones appeared, then stood on one foot, spinning around with the disk.
-
Flora tilted her head back as her body fell back, her hair blowing around her head. She crossed her hands above her head in peace signs.
A sparkly pink dress appeared with lighter petals for a skirt, followed by pink heels. A green choker appeared on her neck, followed by a flower on her chest. Instead of wristbands, long petals came onto her arms, the petal being the longer bit in the back.
She gave a small grin and spun around, putting her arms up while green translucent wings clipped to her back in a burst of a flower.
-
Y/n let out a battle cry before putting out her arms.
Light blue armbands appeared, followed by tall boots. White and blue energy surrounded her body as she leaned back, her arm out and her face twisted in concentration, and gave her a darker top than hung loosely on her shoulders and a skirt.
Her head jerked up and a blue choker appeared with a diamond in the middle while blue - yet transparent - wings appeared behind her. She jolted back and landed on her feet, her arms held out in front of her as if she were about to shoot an energy beam.
-
Stella jumped around with peace signs, then threw her hands up with a huge smile.
Blue wristbands formed on her arms, followed by long orange boots and a headband that matched the bands. Her clothes were then changed to an orange tube top with one strap and short-shorts while her wings formed behind her.
Her eyes narrowed, then squinted. Letting out a cry, she spun around, her hair pinning itself into twintails with long, dark orange hairbands. She took a few steps back while her wings came into place and placed her hand behind her head, smiling fashionably.
-
Blaze spun in a circle with his hands up, twirling.
He clapped and crossed his hands, arm bands appearing and sleeves coming from his undershirt. With his hands held out, another shirt came in, this one only covering his top and with a yellow pendant on his chest. His pants and boots appeared along with it.
He turned his head and his wings appeared. Straightening, a small crown was placed on his head that matched the pendant. He flew up and landed on his feet, one hand on his hips as his eyes narrowed.
-
"Solaria!" Stella cried, tossing her ring up and catching the scepter and hit the dream monster, causing him to run off. When she did, her nightmare replayed in her head, her parents leaving her, making the monster grow larger.
"Stella! Snap out of it!" Musa cried.
The girls and Blaze ran after him, all except Flora, who ran to Mirta instead, the projection of her coming out again. "Go Flora. Don't worry about me. It's Blaze who's in trouble. The Trix want the Dragon's fire. You've gotta help him."
Hesitantly, she left Mirta in the lounge room and ran off to help her friends.
-
Blaze and Y/n were able to shield themselves from the monster's attack, taking mental damage as they held out.
-
A boy with white hair appeared, reaching out to Y/n. She went to grab him and he turned into Blaze, who threw her to the ground.
"Brenda," was all that he could say.
-
Vanessa, Mike, Brenda, and Y/n appeared in Blaze's mind, spinning around.
"Hey, what are friends for?"
"It's beautiful, Blaze. Thank you."
Both Brenda and Y/n stood in front of him, but he was unable to reach either.
-
They got thrown back from becoming overwhelmed with their visions, Stella flying over to pick them up. "Blaze, Y/n! You okay?" Both had passed out, exhausted.
-
"I don't care about you."
-
"Who are you, Blaze?"
-
That caused his eyes to shoot open, first seeing Stella, then see Y/n at his side, asleep. He stood immediately, shaky so that Stella kept her arms out to catch him. "Where's the monster." It phrased more as a statement than a question.
"Downstairs," Flora said. "I'll stay with Y/n. The rest of you go."
Stella used her scepter to teleport them to Alfea's courtyard, leaving Flora to sit with Y/n, using her dust to wake her up. She struggled at first, but Flora was able to calm her down with her touch. "Sweetie, it's okay. It was just another nightmare." She helped her up. "Are you strong enough to fight?"
"Yeah," she replied.
-
By the time they got outside, Blaze was over Tecna, trying to wake her up, and Musa dropped from the sky. Blaze happened to see Y/n, yelling at her, "Don't! He'll kill you in the state you're in!"
"Does it look like I CARE?!" she screamed, levitated with her hands above her head, ready to fire...
...only to get knocked down by a blast of energy.
"Look at the little pixie," Icy sneered while her sisters flew around her to her to the Winx. "Thinking she can save the day and win our main protagonist's heart." Wordlessly, she shot a blast of ice, which Icy was able to flawlessly absorb. "You're fighting ice with ice? What are you, stupid?"
"Extremely."
Ignoring her, Icy froze Flora and Stella mid-air. "Coming soon to a stadium near you: Pixies on Ice! Starring: Princess Y/n!" She froze Y/n's wings, stopping her fall to the ground. "I'll deal with you later. For now, I need little Blazey." Who was right behind her. She and the Trix attacked, letting him seize up and get captured by the monster, allowing them to drain his energy. No matter how hard Y/n tried, she was unable to fly up and help him. "Well, well, well, looks like your friends can't do anything for you now. You're a prisoner of your own fear. Now, you got something we want."
"I don't know what you're talking about!" he shouted.
Darcy inched closer, wrapping her arms around his neck. "You really don't, do you, cutey ~" She bit his back, Blaze letting out a cry of shock. "I like them when they're scared ~"
"What is all the racket about?" Faragonda came flying out with her robe on, arms outstretched wide. The monster dropped Blaze on his butt. To get up, he pushed up with his hands, barely able to move. "What are you doing you my students?!" She was able to shatter the ice around Flora and Stella, then thaw Y/n's wings.
Lights flicked on in the castle, students going out to see what the noise was about. Faragonda shot a few balls at the monster, Blaze and Y/n firing where they could, until he was gone. Then, she began to fly to the Trix with a look of pure rage, something they had not seen before. They flew away from her and Icy teleported them away before they could be caught. She flew down instead to the Winx. "Can someone explain to me what happened here tonight?"
"We don't have a clue, Mrs. Faragonda," Blaze said. "Except that that strange monster began attacking us."
Stella pulled Flora up, who was panting. "And we don't even want to think about what would have happened if you hadn't shown up."
She nodded. "One year, a nightmare gargoyle bested an entire senior class. Seniors who were full-fledged fairies. Well, in any case, I have a feeling Ms. Griffin will know what happened. Or, at least, I hope she will."
-
"What a sextet of airheads," Icy remarked on the way back. "They haven't heard the last of us." Hers, as well as the other girls', mascara, was running in the rain. Even Stormy's hair had gone flat.
"At least the weather is kind of nice tonight."
Darcy glared at her. "You idiot."
A vision of Griffin's face appeared, likely from a spell. "I've been waiting for you, you stupid girls!"
"See? I told you so."
"Silence! Thanks to you, I just suffered the humiliation of being scolded by Griselda. I will never forgive you for this and you won't do it again!"
"No, ma'am. We won't do it again," Icy agreed solemnly, her head bent.
"I said SILENCE! You won't do it again because you'll never set foot in here again. Not tonight, not ever. Now get out of here and hopefully this is the last time I see you!"
When she disappeared, Icy tipped her head back and let out a loud scream. "AAAGGH! A curse on ever single one of those Winxes! They'll pay dearly for this! I will triumph over them!"
Darcy and Stormy had to pull her away from the door, but Darcy let go only moments later. "I'll be at Riven's. All that taunting got me hot and bothered."
"Ew!"
"Darcy!"
-
In the next chapter, at Red Fountain, the Specialists' skills are demonstrated. Blaze joins Brenda with Y/n, but he finds her with a mysterious and handsome boy, Dialvo. Who is he? Upsetting discoveries about Brenda.
