Chapter 16: Duck's Lot

'Louie?'  Dewey entered quietly into the room where his brother was sitting.  Warm daylight flooded the furniture and floor.  Although the room was very cozy, one could feel the depressing atmosphere for a kilometer.  So many bad and unpleasant things happened in less than two weeks.  When one quarrel ended, another took her place.  And there is nothing more unpleasant than quarrels between family and friends.
It would seem that a year has passed, maybe more.

Over the years, emotions rise in everyone, even if they are shown earlier, then finally comes the moment when they convert and explode with doubled strength.  You can't control it, because you never know how it will unfold.  Dewey and Webby knew this perfectly well.  And there is nothing wrong with it, sometimes you have to explode.  He often hurts his loved ones.  However, this must not be allowed to lose all ties that bind us.

At the sound of his brother's voice, Louie just waved a hand casually as a sign that he would enter.  The heart was slicing when you had to look at the mansion again.  However, this had to be faced.  Dewey stepped closer to Louie.  The floor creaked slightly under his feet, but he didn't notice.

He looked back and saw Webby's worried expression, but she was trying to be optimistic and raising her thumb with a slight smile.  Dewey smiled back and sighed deeply.  He couldn't watch his brother grieve.  He stepped closer until he stood on the soft red carpet on which Louie was sitting.

Webby was looking at them from behind the door, being careful not to knock anything off a nearby table with vases and dishes.  She looked back and gave someone a refreshing smile.  Dewey was already standing over Louie and he was talking, but Webby couldn't hear what.  After a short moment, Louie apparently sighed deeply and looked at his brother.  Suddenly he started to say something a little louder than Dewey, but Webby still couldn't understand the meaning of his words.  The room was very large and she did not want to fall out of the role.  Then she saw Dewey kneel and hug Louie.

Webby squeezed the door she had been holding from the beginning and nodded.  Suddenly she heard footsteps behind her.

She turned and saw Della curiously peering inside.  For a moment she looked seriously concerned but as if understanding what was happening, she smiled slightly and patted Webby on the head.

'I'm glad you can get along.  You grow up'.  She took one last look through the door and went on showing Webby's thumbs raised.  The duck with the bow again focused all its attention on what was happening outside the door.

At that moment, Dewey gave her a sign.  She looked quickly at Louie.  He no longer resembled the bundle of green shades he was in the beginning.  The bull now in a standing position, a little depressed for him, but he was much more like himself.

Without delay, she nodded behind her and opened the door wide.  In the place where they had previously covered the door, Huey stood with a contrite face.  He held his arm nervously and couldn't look straight ahead.  The atmosphere for a second got heavier again.  Webby grabbed Huey's hand and slowly led him to Louie, who was waiting as nervous as his brother.

When they were close enough that they could talk normally, they both stood dead and said nothing.  Dewey looked nervous at Webby, unsure what to do.  Webby gave Huey a quick blow, which somehow immediately woke him from lethargy.  He looked around for a moment until he looked straight at Louie.

He was opening his beak to say something when suddenly Louie hugged him.  'It's fine'

Huey was very surprised, she looked at Webby and Dewey for a moment, then returned the hug just as strongly.  For a moment, Webby thought they both cried, but even if they did, they hid it quickly.  The hug lasted quite a long time.

Dewey looked triumphantly at Webby and stroked the end of his sleeve with the pin he'd received from her.  Webby smiled honestly and was pulled into the embrace just like Dewey.  Everyone hugged so long, being happy being in the circle of their family and friends.

"We won't argue so stupidly anymore, will we?"  asked Louie.

'Even if we are friends.  And family.  And no quarrel will break it! '  Webby shouted triumphantly.

Scrooge, Della, Donald and Mrs Beakly stood behind the door.  They looked at this scene with smiles and some even with emotion.  One thing is for sure.  Family is family.  Nothing will change that.
