Chapter 15
3rd Person:
The boys had finally calmed down, using their forks to poke at their untouched lunch.
Jisung looked up and began scanning the cafeteria.
"Where's Chan hyung?"
Felix glanced up as well.
"You ask this now?"
Minho eyed Jisung with amusement.
"It's not like he's been here with us before."
Jisung pursed his lips. It hadn't occurred to him that he had been neglecting his friend's presence, or rather, lack of it.
He couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt even though there was an extremely slim chance of Chan caring.
"He's at the studio. One of 'em," Felix stated.
Jisung sighed. "Shocker."
"So you're aware of his tendency to overwork himself."
"I've known him for a while. You're his roommate, so you've probably seen it, too."
"You have no idea," Felix scoffed, "I caught him working at four in the morning."
Changbin widened his eyes slightly.
"Damn."
"Yeah."
After a couple moments of silence, Hyunjin opened his mouth.
"Why though?"
"Ah, yes, that meme is excellent," Felix grinned.
"Wha- No, not that, jeez. Why does he work so hard? Felix, you've seen him in Mr. Young's class. He answers every question."
Minho snickered.
"You should see our first class. Chan hyung might as well be teaching it."
"Then why work at all, if he knows everything?" Seungmin asked.
Felix shrugged, but Jisung pursed his lips.
"It's just his way of getting away."
"Woah, we got a new Dr. Seuss here."
Jisung gave a pointed look in Jeongin's direction.
Felix waved everyone else off and turned his entire body towards Jisung.
"Away from what?
"I don't know."
"Liar."
Jisung looked away.
"Away from what?"
"... It's not for me to say."
"A hint would be appreciated."
Jisung glanced around, and the rest of his friends looked intrigued as well.
"The hint can't be vague."
"Everything."
"Huh?"
"His way of getting away from everything."
"..."
"Hyung I'm pretty sure that counts as vague-"
"Be quiet Seungmin."
------------------------------------------------
Felix yawned and pointed to a spot on Chan's computer.
"Yeah, add the snare there."
"The snare?" Chan asked, turning on the lamp on his desk.
"... Oh, no, the, um... the bass. Yeah, the bass. Add the bass there," Felix pointed again.
"There? Didn't you just point over here?"
"Ohhh nonono, sorry, never mind, I meant here."
Chan looked at Felix with narrowed eyes.
"Are you doing this on purpose?"
"Wha- I'm not!"
Felix mirrored the frown that was plastered over Chan's face.
"I'm serious! I'm just tired."
Chan muttered a 'whatever' as he went back to clicking and dragging on his laptop.
"Okay," Felix started.
"So now, add the... the um... the thing," Chan looked back over at Felix with furrowed eyebrows, "the... what was it called again... the thing-"
"The beat."
Felix groaned and covered his face with his hands.
"I'm sorry-"
"You're excused."
Felix glared at the elder.
"I didn't even say 'Excuse me'-"
"You're excused."
"Chan! It doesn't even work like that."
"It does."
Felix sighed.
"My brain isn't functioning properly."
Chan mumbled something but winced when he realized Felix caught it.
"What did you say?"
"I didn't say anything."
"Yes, you did!" Felix scoffed.
"Nope."
"You said 'It never functions properly'."
"I never said that. It was probably just a voice inside your head telling you the truth."
Felix smacked Chan on the side of his arm, and it wouldn't be Chan if he didn't smack back.
The younger made a move to hit back, but the other caught it and placed it firmly on the table.
"Work."
"My brain does function properly," Felix grumbled.
"Doubt."
"Says the one who hasn't watched Avatar."
Chan groaned.
"Not again with this Avatar nonsense. You've been bugging me about this for almost a week."
"As I should. I'm gonna make you watch it."
"There's no time. Now stop talking."
"You stop talking."
Chan looked at Felix again.
With that look.
And that was all it took.
"Fine. Fine. I'll stop."
"For the rest of the da-"
"For now."
------------------------------------------------
Jisung:
"Why are you so shy?"
I looked up from my computer and at Minho hyung, slightly thrown off by the sudden question.
"... I'm not shy."
(nOt sHy, nOt mE, iTzAAAAYYY-
i'll stop now)
Hyung laughed.
"Hey! I'm serious!"
"Sure."
"I'm not even that shy."
"Uh-huh."
"I'm n o t."
Minho hyung swiftly took my chin and pulled my face close to his. He made eye-contact with me with a teasing smile.
I pulled away almost instantly and burned up while he laughed again.
"Told you."
As I started racking my brain for a plausible explanation of why I looked like a tomato, I heard a couple of knocks.
Felix:
I wanted to complain, but Chan reminded me that I promised not to annoy him or something.
I knocked and looked around the campus for a couple moments before Jisung swung the door open.
"Hey, Felix."
"Hey!"
"What's up?"
"Chan needs an external hard drive, and he forced me to walk all the way here. He said you'd have one?"
"And he would be correct... hold on."
Jisung disappeared back into the dorm and once again left me outside.
I debated going inside, but I was afraid I'd end up staying there, just talking with Minho hyung and Jisung.
And I don't need angry Chan right now.
Or ever.
Now that I thought about it, isn't Chan... always angry-
"Here."
Jisung tossed it to me, and I caught it with a yelp.
"Why'd you throw it?!"
"So you'd catch it," Jisung snickered.
"What if I didn't?"
"Unleash beast Chan."
Jisung laughed again as I scowled.
And then I sensed movement behind Jisung, and I looked.
He didn't notice anything behind him.
Jisung didn't notice me grin either.
"So, how do you and Minho hyung pass the time when no one's here?" I asked.
Jisung immediately stopped laughing.
He looked at me with an expression I couldn't exactly read.
"Why are you asking?"
"Just curious," I said. "You were pretty clear about your crush on him during lunch toda-"
He lurched forward and clamped a hand around my mouth.
"Be a little louder, I'm pretty sure the rest of the world didn't hear you goddamit."
Jisung:
Why does he keep glancing to the side?
It doesn't matter, I just need to make sure Hyung doesn't hear.
I slowly pulled back my hand and was ready to close Felix's mouth again if I had to.
"I don't..."
I stopped.
I don't what?
I don't have a crush on Minho hyung?
Is that wasn't the biggest lie I have ever said out loud-
"Please, don't even Jisung."
Felix sarcastically laughed and I groaned.
"Fine, fine, I do have a crush on him."
"Yeah, we know. You couldn't make it any more obvious."
"... Thank you, for that. But, yeah, I just, I don't know-"
"You don't know what?"
"If he-"
"Oh my lord. Jisung. He likes you. You're a fool."
He's kinda right.
I scoffed anyway.
"Have some respect. I'm older than you-"
"By one day? How does that count?!"
"It just does okay?"
Felix laughed.
"Someone's frustrated~"
"Whatever, just... go. Chan hyung's probably even more frustrated."
I shooed Felix away as he frowned.
He left, but not before he looked behind me again.
I sighed, shaking my head.
When I turned around to head back inside, my soul left my body.
3rd Person:
Minho smiled as the younger turned around.
But it looked more like a smirk to Jisung.
