Chapter 26: First date

Lora's POV

It was pretty surprising that Sky had asked me out, I mean, he just blurted it out straight away! It took me by surprise, that was for sure...

Of course, Mitch wasn't happy.

"You can't go out with him, Lora!" he yells angrily at me. The rain had stopped and many people were going to head on down to the town, including me, for dates.

"Why not?" I snap back, leaning against the wall as I slump on my brother's bed who was stood up, scowling down at me.

"Because! We've literally just had mum and dad's funeral, you can't just go off on dates!"

I flinch at that-our parents deaths had been pushed to the back of my mind. Mum and dad preferred Mitch anyway-they liked having a boy than a girl. Even Mitch winced, guiltily looking down. But I meet his eye when he looks up, determined to win this argument.

"Don't use them as an excuse! I can do what I want Mitch!" I shout, my hands curling into fists. I hated arguing but it had to be done. Narrowing his eyes, Mitch takes a moment to calm himself down, breathing in and out deeply, before sitting down next to me. Scowling, I sigh loudly-here it comes. The brother-and-sister relationship talk.

"Lora, Sky is my best friend. You can't go out with him!" he sighs, trying to maintain his anger. And he wasn't doing a very good job at it.

"I don't care what you say, nothing you say will change this!" I huff, standing up quickly in a meaningless effort to escape. He tugs me down by my arm, but I throw off his attempt at pulling me.

"Mitch, I know you're older than me, but that doesn't mean you control my life, alright?" I snap, marching out. I was already feeling guilty.

Pausing at the door, I look back to see him looking down, a thoughtful yet sorrowful expression on his face. Guilt consumes me, and I slowly walk back towards him, sitting next to him.

"I'm sorry" I whisper, and he smiles, wrapping his arms around me.

"It's OK, I just overreacted a lil'. Just...be careful OK? I just want to make sure you're safe, you know that, right?" he murmurs in my ear, and I nod, squeezing him tighter before letting go.

"If he does anything you don't want him to do, tell me straight away!" he calls after me as I skip back to the door, my spirits lifted.

"Please, I could knock him out quicker than you could say 'What have you done?'" I giggle and he rolls his eyes, before I throw open the door and run down the corridor. I was already five minutes late!

My dress choice was casual, a light blue T-shirt and a hoodie with jeans. It wasn't gonna be all posh, with a suit and a dress right?

Suddenly, I felt worried. He hadn't specifically said what the dress code was...

He was waiting at the bottom of the stairs in a plain white shirt and baggy trousers, and I smile-he looked cute in casual clothes. Smiling at me, he took my hand gently as he led me outside, and I couldn't help but blush.

We went to a small cafe at the back of town. The waitress smiled as she came over, cooing and saying how cute we were. Sky just smiled embarrassingly, and I could barely stop the red flush on my cheeks. I knew I was going to be blushing a lot today...

Note: @Lightningstar129 I don't know what food you like so I'm just gonna guess :D

We both ordered a small pizza to share-it was cheaper than getting two individual meals. Both of us ordered some coca cola, and we got stuck in. Neither of us spoke, though sometimes we would point people out in the town. Mitch walked past at one point, raising an eyebrow at us before carrying on.

"So..." Sky began after we had finished the pizza. We were now sipping our cold glasses of coca cola, and watching the world go by. "What did Mitch have to say about us both going out?"

"A lot" I chuckle.

"Like I didn't see that one coming" he chuckled, but then looked up anxiously from his drink. "He didn't get too angry did he?"

I hesitate. "A...bit" I say vaguely. The subject dropped until Sky picked it up again.

"Who do you think should go out with each other who aren't already going out?" he asks curiously, turning his straw around in his fingers.

I pause, gulping some of the liquid down before answering. "No idea. I prefer Rythian and Zoey to Duncan and Zoey" I admit, wrapping a hand around the glass-it felt weird that I had nothing to fidget with and it was awkward making eye contact with him.

"Yeah me too. Tia and Ridge make a good couple. Couple of weirdos" he chuckles, and I bristle.

"They aren't weird" I snap, and he stiffens slightly.

"You know what I mean. In a good way. Ridge used to be really bad but...but he's changed now. He's different" Sky smiles reassuringly, and I relax.

"We should get going. We have a class today, remember, 'cause it's Saturday" he reminds me, standing up.

"Oh yeah! What time do we have it?" I gasp, checking my watch.

"Oh, we have two hours yet" he grins, and I relax again. He pauses, taking some money out of his pocket and putting it onto the table.

"Let me pay!" I laugh.

"No! I asked you out so I pay!" he giggles, tucking the wallet back in his pocket. "Besides, I get loads of money anyway."

Note: I'm curious. What do you guys think? Do guys have to ask girls out or is it the other way round? Do guys have to pay for the first date? Let me know in the comments!

"Let's go then" I smile, finishing off the rest of my coca cola, before accepting his arm, looping my arm through it as we stroll through the town back up to the school. I could see Silva and Galaxy waiting for me at the top, and they raised a curious eyebrow at my sudden arrival with Sky.

"That was pretty fun!" Sky smiles, turning to me.

"Yeah! We should go on a date next week?" I suggest, trying not to blush.

"Sure! I'll see you around then" he grins, before kissing me on the cheek lighty and walking away to the school. I stood in a daze, watching his disappearing back.

Silva and Galaxy jog over to me. "Wow! Look at you, getting a kiss already!" Silva laughs, Galaxy joining in.

"What about you guys? You going on any dates?" I ask quickly, trying to change the subject.

"No!" they both chorus. But I knew they were lying...

Note: OOOOOOOH XD More of their POV next chapter and the new O.C character winner too! But for now...don't you wanna see how Duncan and Zoey's date went? :3

Zoey's POV

Awkward. The word kept forming in my mind over and over again.

Duncan had chosen a really posh restaurant with expensive food that he couldn't afford. He could barely even afford a drink, let alone a meal!

It took a while, but we finally decided to share a meal and a drink to save prices-a vegetable curry and some posh coca cola. Altogether, it came to £20.50, and we could barely scrape our money together to get it.

I wasn't too hungry, so I let Duncan eat most of it, and he happily complied. Twirling some of the vegetables around my fork, I preferred to gaze outside of the window, watching everyone go by. I watch in amusement as Tia and Ridge emerge from the game shop, a bag of games between them, grins on their faces as they head to the cafe next door. Wishing I could be in there with them, since gaming sounded like a better idea than sitting here in a dark, warm restaurant with a noisy-eating person, I sighed loudly and wistfully, making Duncan look up.

"You OK?" he mumbles, quickly swallowing some of the vegetables in his mouth. I smile reassuringly, nodding as I glance outside. I could see Tia and Ridge through the window of the cafe sifting through the games and comparing them, eating what looked like a donner kebab that they were sharing.

Note: I really want a donner kebab now -_- why do I always write about food

Duncan followed my gaze. "Really? A cafe? That's a rubbish place to take someone on a date" he huffs, and I shrug, tearing my gaze from the happy couple, wishing I was anywhere else but here.

"I don't mind really" I say vaguely in an effort to make conversation. Slowly, so as not to draw his attention, I glance back over at the cafe to see the two of them staring right back at me, making funny faces. Spluttering slightly, I hold a hand over my mouth to conceal my laughter, and I pretend I'm coughing instead.

"Are you sure you're OK?" he asks anxiously, before looking over at the two who quickly look away, pretending to be busy.

"Yep!" I grin brightly, popping a vegetable in my mouth quickly and swallowing, pretending to be too busy chewing to make conversation,

"I'm sorry I didn't have enough money, I mean, I didn't know it was gonna be this expensive" he laughs half-heartedly.

"It's fine!" I smile.

Suddenly, he leans across and kisses me. I freeze, and he pulls away after a few seconds, face red.

"Um...sorry" he mumbles, though a smile rises up onto his face.

I open my mouth to say something but no word's come out.

To be honest, I didn't feel anything towards him. Sure, he was a nice guy and all, but...

"Hey guys!" a voice pops out of nowhere, pulling up a seat next to us. Turning, Rythian was sat down, smiling at the two of us.

When we played spin the bottle and Rythian and I had to kiss, I felt nervous at first. Duncan had been sat angrily huffing in the corner, but Rythian just looked calm and quite anxious-not like most boys, for example Ridge, who were smug and went overboard. The kiss had been soft, gentle and it was everything I had wanted my first kiss to be. In the back of my mind, I thanked Rythian for being my first kiss and not Duncan.

"What you guys up to?" he asks, nabbing a vegetable off the plate.

"Having a date" Duncan answers stiffly.

"Oh!" Rythian starts, before giggling awkwardly and I can't help but join in. "Sorry!" he laughs, before scraping his seat back.

"Actually, I think we were pretty much done, right?" I ask, staring at the near enough empty plate.

"Uh...sure" he smiles, standing up awkwardly and I follow, slipping my red hoodie back on lightly over my shoulders. Strolling out of the building, we walk together to the top in an awkward silence.

"Well that was fun" Duncan smiles as Rythian wanders off.

"Yeah" I agree lightly, glancing over at him. He looked slightly flustered, a red tinge on his cheeks.

"I'll see you later then?" he smiles, before kissing me on the cheek lightly. I couldn't help but blush at that-he was a good guy, I couldn't fault him for that.

"Sure!" I smile, leaning forward to hug him. Maybe I should give him a chance...kissing him on the cheek, he stares at me wide eyed in surprise, before maintaining his cool.

"Bye Zoey" he gushes, barely holding in a grin as he disappears back into the school quickly, no doubt to talk to his friends about his achievement.

I don't know why I was being hard on him. Maybe I should give him a chance? He was new to this, and so was I. Smiling at the thought, I walk back into school, deciding Duncan wasn't so bad after all...

Note: This book hit 8,000 reads! Thank you everyone! :D Again with the question, who asks the other out-boys or girls? Who pays for the date meal-boys or girls? Let me know in the comments! :D
