Chapter 8

Not much longer later, Yuri had arrived with a knock on Monika's door.

"Yuri! How are ya?" Monika grinned when she opened the door for Yuri, "Lots of bags huh? Need any help?"

"Arg, what's wrong with you? Why are you this jumpy?"

Monika scolded herself before Yuri responded.

"Oh uh.. Here take this one and I've got it." Yuri said, handing a bag to Monika.

Both girls unloaded the bags Yuri brought, sorting everything as best as they could.

"I think we should start fliers first since.. Well it seems to be easier.." Yuri suggested, grabbing a piece of paper and placing it on the coffee table.

"Good idea, now what will the design look like?" Monika asked.

"Uh..." Yuri stared at the piece of paper in front of her.

After some prototype designing and brainstorming, both girl agreed on a flier design.

The flier ended up being colored pink by crayon, and had "Join The Literature Club!" written across the top in big bold and capital letters. In the center was a hand-drawn book, drawn by Yuri, and at the bottom was the list of all the club member's names. Monika took the liberty of putting Yuri's name above her own.

"I think it looks great Monika," Yuri complimented Monika's flier design, since Monika did most of the brainstorming.

"Well, you were the one who gave out ideas." Monika replied, taking a good look at the flier they colored and created.

It had taken them around an hour to brainstorm, draw, and color the flier, and Monika could say she spoke for both of them when she said she doesn't want to make copies of it by hand. Luckily, Monika had a copier in her office room. She put the flier in.

"How many copies?" She asked.

"Uh.. Twenty maybe..? Sayori is making some too, so we shouldn't need many." Yuri replied, and Monika punched 20 into the number of copies.

Their next task to tackle was Yuri's banner and decorations. Yuri already knew what the interior design would look like, so all the had to do was a banner.

"I'm thinking... Sunset, or like a day-to-night kind of thing." Yuri said, laying out the poster paper on the hard wood floor.

"I like the day-to-night idea." Monika replied.

Yuri pulled out a knife once she had unrolled the paper to the length she wanted. The knife was more of a pocket knife, or switchblade, that flipped out of a "case" with the press of a button, and snapped back in by pushing it inside the "case".

"Oh, I probably should've.. Said I brought it along.." Yuri had noticed Monika's shock, and Monika felt her face heat up.

"Wrong message Monika!"

"O-Oh! No! I-I don't see it as a-anything bad.." Monika stuttered out.

"Well, in that case, would you like to cut the paper while I get the markers out?" Yuri asked.

"Er, sure!" Monika replied, walking over to Yuri and holding a hand out for the knife.

Before Monika could say much more, there was a sharp pain that struck the palm of her right hand. She felt a warm liquid dripping down her hand and down to her wrist. It took a moment for Monika to realize what happened, and only really knew when Yuri started to rapidly apologize.

"Ah! I-I'm so sorry! I-I'll grab paper towels, s-stay put!" Yuri dropped the knife onto the floor and rushed to Monika's kitchen, bringing back a few paper towels.

Immediately, Yuri pressed the paper towels to Monika's bleeding palm, and brought her over to the couch to sit while Yuri applied pressure.

"There's a wash cloth in the bathroom," Monika finally spoke up, "wet it with warm water, and bring it here, it'll work better than the paper towel."

Yuri let go of the paper towel and let it fall to the floor, but Monika picked it up and used it as pressure till Yuri got back with the wash cloth. Monika only knew that tactic because she's had worse cuts, to say the least, and warming a wash cloth for pressure seemed to do more work. Plus it cleaned the area a little.

"Here." Yuri came back with the wash cloth and quickly put it to Monika's palm.

After a minute or two, the bleeding seemed to stop. Monika got up off the couch, wash cloth in hand and ready to return to the bathroom, but couldn't make it far before Yuri grabbed hold of her wrist, using it to guide the still warm wash cloth to her cheek.

Monika's face heated up, and she took her seat on the couch back.

"What in the.."

Very confused, Monika kept her hand where Yuri had guided it while Yuri rested her cheek on the wash cloth. Her lips were half parted, and her eyes closed.

"She's so.. Peaceful looking.."

Monika felt herself smile a little, looking down to Yuri, who looked like she could fall asleep at any given moment. She took in the moment, knowing it probably won't ever happen again.

They sat like this for maybe three minutes, before Yuri was first to pull herself away from the wash cloth and look up to Monika from her seat on the floor.

"Lets.. Lets get to the banner.." Yuri said, standing up and going over to the end of the banner roll. She cut it herself, while Monika tossed the wash cloth into the kitchen sink.

"I'll start on the night side, or do you want to?" Monika asked, taking a look at the blank banner paper.

"I.. You can.. I'll do the day side. We'll meet in the middle." Yuri said, grabbing the paint colors she'd need and one of the larger paint brushes that had been set out between the two girls.

Monika also grabbed the colors she'd need, and one of the larger brushes. She'd never painted before, unless you counted art classes in elementary, but even if you did it's been a very long time.

For Monika's side, she wanted to have a valley with tall trees, taller than the banner space vertically, that would be blackened by the night sky. There would be starts dotting the deep blue sky, and a moon hanging out in the top right corner that only gave off some light, but not enough. But as usual, people's mind images are always nicer and better looking than the real image.

Monika's trees weren't straight up, the valley looked like a flat wooden board, just a very dark green. The stars, well some were closer together than they should have been, and some areas barely had any. She tried adding grass sticking up from the valley, but it only made it worse.

"Woah.."

Monika took a look to Yuri's side, and she could safely say if both of them were to enter an art contest that Yuri would win without a second thought.

Yuri's side had a waterfall on the far left that flowed into a small pond-like area. Behind it was a forest, but in front of the forest was a small flower field. Her sky was a nice light blue that seemed to perfectly fade into the color of an almost night sky, and her clouds were incredible. There wasn't a sun present anywhere, but to top it all off, there was a very subtle rainbow running from the top of the border that separated day and night to the back left of her forest.

"Rainbow..? Maybe she IS like that.. Or it's just a rainbow. Maybe it just rained on her side, or its reflecting from the waterfall. It doesn't mean she's that way, it's just for the banner."

As badly as Monika wanted to believe Yuri was that way, she couldn't. Everything pointed to yes, even Monika's heart said she was, but her head said no. Yes the odds are 2-1 (yes to no), but sometimes the weaker side makes a comeback.

"Moni?" Yuri brought Monika out of her thoughts.

"O-Oh, ah.. Yes?"

"Do you need help on your side? I finished mine so I'd gladly help you out." Yuri asked.

"Done?! That felt like she finished that masterpiece in five minutes!"

"Oh uh..." Monika hesitated, unsure.

"Here." Yuri scooted over beside Monika, taking Monika's bigger brush and dipping it in one of the darker blues.

She put the paintbrush in Monika's hand, and overlapped her hand over Monika's. Of course, Monika was once again a blushing mess, but Yuri seemed to focused on painting to notice.

Yuri guided Monika's hand to make light strokes with the brush, trying to do the fading part on Monika's side.

"See?" Yuri pulled her hand away and arranged some of the darker blues in a certain order. "From left to right. Right now you're using the one on the far left, the next one is your next shade to use in the fade." Yuri instructed.

"W-What are you gonna do then..?" Monika asked.

"I'll work on your sky and valley." Yuri said, grabbing a brush and dipping it in the darker green and getting to work.

It was quiet for the most part, and both girls finished at the same time.

"Late huh? Maybe.. You should head home.." Monika finished washing all the brushes while Yuri was working on cleaning up the paints.

"I was thinking we go out to dinner." Yuri replied. "IHop maybe?"

Monika let a small laugh escape.

"What? It's just IHop."

"A breakfast place at what," Monika looked at the clock, "nine at night?"

"Nothing wrong with that though, right?" Yuri asked.

"No, definitely not, just a.. Odd choice." Monika replied.

Once both of them had packed up the things Yuri brought over and set the banner somewhere it would dry and be out of the way, Yuri and Monika piled into Yuri's car and started to drive to IHop.

Once at IHop, the two girls were seated at a booth in the back corner. Unluckily for Monika, every couple seemed to be surrounding them.

"Of all f**king times..."

Monika picked up a menu and started to look at all the food options. Most were pancakes, since this was a breakfast place after all, but one dish caught Monika's eye.

"Why hello! What could I get you gals?"

The sudden voice startled Monika, hence her seat-jumping reaction. Literally.

"Sorry to startle such a pretty girl, now drinks?"

The waitress was wearing black skinny jeans and dangling loop earrings. Her fingers were covered in rings, as well as her arms with tattoos.

"Ah.. Ice tea please, unsweetened." Yuri said, and the waitress started to scribble away on her small notepad.

"And you?"

"O-Oh... Uh.. Sprite.. Please." Monika stuttered out, still a little embarrassed from the scare earlier.

"Right on it." With that, the waitress was off.

"Monika, " Yuri spoke out after the waitress was a good distance away.

Monika looked up from her menu and to Yuri, silent.

"You alright?" She asked.

"A- uh- yes, I'm good." Monika replied through her stutter struggle.

"She surely gave you quite the scare, are you sure?"

"I'm a-okay, no worries." Monika plastered on a fake smile and gave a thumbs up to Yuri.

"If you insist.." Yuri said, going back to her menu.

Not much longer after that, the waitress returned with their drinks, and this time didn't scare Monika.

Both girls ordered pancakes, and patiently waited for them.

As Monika looked around the place while waiting, she noticed people looking at her and Yuri.

"T-They think we're dating.."

"What was that?" Yuri asked.

Monika's face flushed a deep shade of red.

"Didn't mean to say that out loud.."

"Ah.. It's nothing.." Monika nervously replied.

Yuri looked around the area, and noticed what Monika had seen. All the eyes on them, thinking they were some lesbian couple mixed in with all the other straight ones in the corner they were placed in.

"If they're going to stare," Yuri spoke, "let them."

Monika looked to Yuri, then looked away.

"D-Do you think they think we're.." Monika hesitated.

"Dating? Probably. If we were dating, I'd say we'd look pretty good together." Yuri replied, almost making Monika spit her drink out.

"I-I have no comment... Just.. I mean.. Would we look good together? I think we would, but that's me. Of course I wouldn't mine being in a relationship with her what-so-ever, but does she want to be with me?"

Monika's thoughts were interrupted when their waitress brought their food, and both girls started to eat right away.

"I-I was thinking.." Monika said, taking a seat in the car, "you could maybe stay the night..?"

Out of the darkness of the car, Monika could've sworn she saw a small but true (and adorable) smile appear on Yuri's face.

"Sounds good." Yuri replied, starting the car and beginning to drive back to Monika's.

A/N: Sorry for the wait! I had really like.. Weird stuff going on. I still sorta do, but it's nothing I can't handle *flexes "muscles"*. Hope you enjoyed this, and it's longer so maybe it's better..? Don't quote me on that please, but I hope you have a great day/night depending on when you're reading! <3
