Chapter 7

After the nurse finished patching me up, I was surprised Yuri actually waited for me.

"You... Uh... Waited.." I said quietly.

"Well you pretty much saved me Monika, last I can do it wait for you." Yuri replied, "Now what? Do we go back to class?"

That was a good thought. Monika had gotten fixed up by the nurse faster than expected, so their first class hadn't ended for another ten minutes.

"We could start reading Catholic Crush... I haven't started it yet and we've just been super busy lately and.." Yuri stopped herself, "Ah I'm rambling again, sorry.."

"You're alright Yuri, we can get to reading." Monika smiled.

"We uh... Need our bags, Monika..." Yuri said, almost hesitating.

"Hah, sure are right with that Yuri!" Monika nervously laughed, walking outside of the nurse's office towards the direction of the bathroom they camped out in.

"Here's the book, " Yuri grabbed the book out of her backpack, "do you want to read here?"

"Maybe not the uh... Bathroom... But instead the janitor's closet?" Monika suggested.

"Alright, I'll grab your bag--." Yuri looked to her side to see Monika with both her own and Yuri's backpacks on her back.

"I've... Ugh... Got 'em.." Monika groaned, bearing the weight of both bags.

"What does she even have in here?! Bricks?! Wait, no, festival planning starts today and Yuri is who I'm working with. Can't mess it up early."

"Do you... Need help..?" Yuri reached out to grab one of the bags, but Monika stepped forward.

"I've got them Yuri, don't you worry." Monika huffed, carrying both bags out of the bathroom.

"The er... Janitors closet it halfway down the hallway Monika..." Yuri said, pointing to the brown door on the right side of the long hallway.

"Uh... Yeah, you wanna take one Yuri?" Monika felt her face heat up, and of course wasn't pleased with her hormones at that moment in time.

"Quit blushing Monika! She's right there and doesn't think that way for you, so stop it! The festival is just for fun and nothing else."

Both girls proceeded to carry their bags down to the janitor's closet in one piece, quietly closing the door behind them. And with Yuri and Monika both leaning against the wall, each had one side of the book in the corresponding hand and started reading.

"Tell me when you're ready to flip the page, I'm most likely a faster reader than you Monika." Yuri gently whispered.

Monika only made an mhm in reply as both continued reading.

It wasn't too many pages in before Monika was caught by surprise when Yuri suddenly rested her head on Monika's right shoulder.

Her face heated up almost instantly, and she was as still as a statue.

"I... Uh... What is... Is she tired..?"

Monika had a feeling the bell would ring any minute, and didn't want it to disturb Yuri's resting.

"She'll fall asleep at this rate... I have to wake her up or the bell will..."

Monika took a moment to look at the resting girl on her shoulder.

"She's so peaceful when she's asleep... Stop Monika! God, the bell will ruin it any moment. Get back on track."

Gently, Monika moved her shoulder in an attempt to get Yuri up.

"Yurs, the bell will ring any second.." Monika whispered.

"Hmm? Oh! I er... Was really tired today... Sorry monika.." Yuri apologized, swiftly sitting up and looking around the closet.

"We can make it to the bathroom if we're fast enough, c'mon." Monika folded the page of the book they were on and packed in Yuri's bag. She put both her own and Yuri's bag in her arms.

Yuri, seeming to know exactly what Monika was doing, opened the door for her as the two went as fast as they could to the bathroom just down the hall.

They made it just in time, or rather Monika did. Yuri had walked ahead due to Monika insisting that she carry both bags. The bell rang shortly after they got into the bathroom, and they took their bags on their separate ways until the club.

"What's on your mind, Monika?" Sayori asked.

There were reasons Monika hated being science partners with Sayori, and her constant bothering was one of them.

"Nothing Sayori, don't worry about it," Monika reassured, but in reality, Yuri was on her mind.

It was just Yuri. Her smile to her embarrassment. It was all perfect in Monika's eyes. She knew very well she didn't deserve Yuri, and also knew Yuri didn't deserve her.

Classes seemed slower than usual. They felt like they lasted hours instead of forty-five minutes. Yuri never left her mind though, and she was ready for the festival planning. All Monika was looking forward to anymore was Yuri, nothing and no one else could change her train of thought.

Monika made sure to get to the club as fast as possible, only to see she was beaten by Sayori and Natsuki.

"Not practicing piano today?" Natsuki questioned.

"Nah, I wanted to get here first but, " Monika set her things down and picked up one of the pieces of chalk from the teacher's desk, "guess I was still too late."

Monika began to write on the chalkboard. She knew Yuri wouldn't arrive for a good while, considering how early it already was, so she was still going to write about festival planning despite two of them already here.

When Monika turned around from writing, she saw Sayori and Natsuki with two desks pushed together and each having one half of Natsuki's manga in a hand.

"How adorable..."

Monika smiled and looked at them a little longer before setting the chalk back down and starting her math homework until Yuri came.

Once Yuri arrived, Monika's head instantly jolted up to see Yuri set her things down.

"Cool, we're all here!" Monika smiled, standing up to get everyone attention. "The festival is on Monday, and this year we get to have a literature attraction, so we need to figure out how everyone's going to pitch in."

"Oh! Nat could bake cupcakes!" Sayori squealed.

"Hey quit calling me that!" Natsuki scolded Sayori, crossing her arms and giving her a death glare like no other.

"We could... Break into pairs.." Yuri suggested.

That was just what Monika wanted to hear.

"Then I am absolutely NOT working with Yuri." Natsuki spat.

Of course, that wasn't something she wanted to hear.

"Not like I would have wanted to work with the likes of you anyways." Yuri replied, giving Natsuki a side glance.

"Hehe, okay let's not start the third world war.." Sayori said nervously.

"Well if you won't work with Yuri, then I will." Monika said, walking over to Yuri's side.

Yuri, looking down on the brown haired girl, and rested one of her arms on Monika's head.

She felt her face heat up from Yuri's action but couldn't even keep a straight face.

"Guess I'm working with Nat then huh?" Sayori looked to Natsuki.

"I can't imagine baking with you Sayori..." Natsuki grumbled just barely loud enough for everyone in the club room to hear.

"So who's doing what Monika?" Yuri asked.

"Oh um... Well, I was thinking I would do posters, since that can be done by one person, then we would get into groups and whoever was with Natsuki would be helping bake." Monika explained.

"What would I be doing then?" Yuri asked.

"Sh*t! How could I not have a role for Yuri?! She'll never think of me that way now, especially after this."

"Yuri could do decorations," Sayori suggested, "she's got amazing smelling candles she can bring too!"

"Sounds good. So we can all start working tonight and across the weekend. Monday is the day of the festival." Monika said.

After that Sayori and Natsuki got right to number exchanging as well as address exchange.

Monika quickly tore off a corner from her math packet and wrote her number on one side and her address on the other.

"Yuri, here, " Monika walked over to Yuri and handed her the small slip of paper, "my address and phone number."

Yuri took the small paper and handed Monika one of her own. Looking at it, it had Yuri's address and numbers and-.

"A HEART?! Wait, why would she... Put a heart... On the..."

Before Monika could ask, Sayori had announced that club time was over. Everyone piled out the door, leaving Monika alone in the club room, still in shock from the heart on the slip she received from Yuri.

"She's joking, right? It's just a friendly gesture... It has to be..."

The more Monika thought about it as she packed up, the more her answers lead to it being more than a gesture of kindness.

As Monika started her walk home, she heard her phone go off in her pocket.

Yuri: Hey, when tonight do you think we should start your posters?

Monika: Uh... Around 7?

Yuri: Sounds good with me, I'll try to get there around that time. See you then.

Monika would ask about the heart, but brushed it aside. In the meantime, Monika had around three hours to make her apartment look presentable for Yuri.

Monika felt like the mice from Cinderella while cleaning. She was doing all these things just for Yuri, so she would make a good impression, despite the apartment aspect.

It took a good hour or so to clean everything up to make it as perfect as possible. Monika made her bed, did her dishes, vacuumed the floors, folded bathroom towels, washed countertops, and even put her couch blanket in the wash.

She scanned the small area.

"This should be good."

Now all she had to do, was wait.
