Chapter 2
Snowdin was quiet that day. Nothing but the chilly wind sweeping through the branches of the pine trees disturbed Sans as he slept, his arms crossed and leaning into his post, his hood pulled up to trap his skull in it's soft confines.
He slept peacefully at his post at the end of the long, snowy corridor from the Ruins entrance. He was supposed to be on guard and alert for any kind of activity, but he wasn't one to take his job seriously.
He was snoring when the icy crunch of foot steps snapped him out of his dream, his eye lids slowly opening to reveal a large, peachy face in front of him. Startled, he pushed back in his chair with a yelp and found himself laying on his back, snow filtering down around him.
"Wha- Who's there?" The short skeleton sat up and rubbed his skull, pushing down his hood and peering over the wooden sentry post at the giggling human on the other side, her hand covering her mouth.
"Sans! You're not supposed to be sleeping! You're on duty!" Frisk smiled sweetly as she listened to Sans sit up in the snow, brushing his bony hand across his jacket briskly to rid it of loose snow.
"Jeez, kid. You really 'snow' how to 'peak' up on me." Sans grinned as the human laughed at his puns, her smile brightening. When he had regained his composure, he was already at her side, one hand extended at the same level as her's.
"Where we going today, kiddo?" His grin grew as he felt her warm fingers entwine with his, her hand slightly smaller then his own, the sleeve of her sweater ticking his wrist bone.
"I wanted to see what Monster Kid was doing, and if he wanted to play in Waterfall with me," Frisk was chipper and always light hearted, something Sans saw as a difficult feat considering her circumstances. If he couldn't see, he would be napping much more often.
"Okay. 'Water' you plans there?" This time he earned a playful punch to his arm, looking over to see Frisk with her cheeks puffed, pouting at the especially terrible pun.
"What? Are we having our 'fall'ing out?" Frisk made a gesture that would have been similar to rolling her eyes, her head tilting away with her nose stuck up slightly, her lips pulled tight as she scoffed.
"Sans, your puns are getting worse the more you make them."
"At least I can say that I tried." Sans sang the sentence, laughing as Frisk hit him more, though with an open hand instead of a fist. She was't one for much violence, blind or not.
"Let's just go!" She was already starting to walk ahead of him, tugging on his hand and nearly pulling the skeleton out of his slippers.
"Hey hey! I'm coming, I'm coming," Sans caught up so that their steps were similar, making it easy to walk along side each other through the snowy biome.
"Tori pack your toothbrush?" A simple nod was his answer, a hint of a giggle came with it.
"Lunch, extra cloth, clean bandages?" Another nod, though any giggle that had been present before was gone. "Good."
They fell silent as they walked through the woods, the conversation had fallen flat and felt distasteful. Frisk seemed fine with the lack of words, and so Sans let her be, his bony fingers entwined in her human hand as he led her along.
