Chapter 1
"Mom! I'm going out!" Frisk called from where she was already heading down the stairs, her small shoes tapping on the wood. Toriel, who had been in the kitchen baking, hurried through the cozy home to the human child, a backpack held in her soft paws.
"Don't forget your pack, my child. You can never be too safe," She said as the large goat woman bent down to strap the pack onto Frisk's shoulders, who stood stock still as she did.
"I know, Mom."
"And don't forget to wait for Sans, and make sure you have someone with you, and-" Toriel stopped when Frisk turned to look up at her, her own warm brown eyes darting away at the sight of the bandages wrapped around the child's head.
"Mom, I'll be fine. Don't worry." Toriel sighed softly and knew that Frisk was telling the truth, her soul trembling with the fears of what could happen to a youth with such a major set back.
"You're right. I'm being overprotective," Frisk smiled sweetly, her features turned up as if she were actually gazing at Toriel, though they both knew that was a mere fantasy.
"It's okay. I understand. But I really have to get going! I don't need Sans to be panicking too!" Toriel smiled warmly and planted a kiss on the human's forehead, right above where her eyes would have been looking at her.
"Then get getting! Have a great day, missy! I love you!" Toriel stood and smiled as Frisk clambered down the stairs, her hand tracing the wall with an ease that only someone with experience could manage.
"Love you too, Goat Mom!" As she watched Frisk's back pack disappear into the shadows of the basement, the monster folded her hands in front of her, her ears drooping more than they already did.
"Be careful.." She whispered, before shaking her head to clear her mind, heading back to the kitchen to finish her baking and prepare the little surprise she had waiting for when her child returned home.
