{Chapter Four}

*Mallory*

"Here you are, Mick," I said, serving him breakfast, along with his meds, all the plates balanced on my arm.

Force of habit.

"Thank you, Mallory," he sighed with relief. "You know, maybe a former waitress living around here ain't half bad."

I laughed as I patted his back gently.

I then started to smell something burning from the living room and sighed.

"Tommy! I thought I told you to stop burning the fucking carpet to kill roaches five times already!" I snapped, the drums stopping.

"But it works!" he argued as I walked out the kitchen.

"You can also use a shoe or bug spray, or something that doesn't ruin the floor," I scolded.

He just groaned, rolling his eyes as I gave him his breakfast, which he ate off his drum kit as usual, this time however pouting.

I then went and served Nikki's.

"Thanks, Mal," he said as he went to eat while watching TV.

I then got my plate, sitting next to him as we watched television.

Vince had called Tommy yesterday, decided to give the band a chance. So today he was coming by at noon for band practice and if he does well, discuss what Nikki has planned for the band.

Soon after breakfast, showering and getting dressed, the guys all started to get everything ready while I cleaned the kitchen up a bit, then heard a car pull up outside as I finished.

Nikki looked out the window through the blinds.

"Tommy, your boy's here!" Nikki called out.

I walked over next to Nikki and peered out the window with him, Mick also joining as we watched the familiar singer climb out the passenger seat of the red car, and a blonde girl climb out the driver's seat.

"Who's the chick?" Nikki asked.

"Which one?" Mick asked, making me hold my laugh back as Tommy joined us.

Soon they got to our door and Nikki let them in.

"Hey," Nikki greeted as the girl walked in, passing him.

"Hi," I said politely to her.

She just scoffed quietly with an eyeroll and walked past me.

Okay then...

"Looks like you got a friend now," Mick whispered to me as we watched her.

"Joy," I whispered back sarcastically as the singer followed inside, Nikki greeting him.

"Hey man. Nikki," he said as they shook hands.

"What's up, man? I'm Vince," the singer said as they shook hands, then coming in.

"Hey! What's up, Vince?!" Tommy hollered excitedly.

"Alright!!" Vince shouted along with him and they high fived each other as they shared their excitement.

"This is Mick Mars," Nikki introduced, Mick nodding at him.

"What's up, man?" Vince greeted as Nikki then pointed to me.

"And Mallory, she lives with us but has helped out a lot," Nikki said.

"Also go by Mal or MJ, whichever you want," I smiled as we shook hands.

"Cool," he smiled at me.

"Vince, you listened to the tape?" Nikki asked.

"Yeah," Vince nodded as I walked over to the couch, noticing the girl looking at everyone of us weirdly.

"And we got you some lyrics," Nikki said as he showed Vince the lyric sheet to the song he wrote. "This is Live Wire."

"Yeah, I like this one," Vince nodded as he read over the sheets, then the two noticed the girl giving them looks.

Vince then walked up to her. "What's up, babe?"

"I'm just trying to make sure these guys are good enough to play with you, baby," She said.

I raised an eyebrow as the guys then looked at each other.

I then nodded at Mick, who was giving her a look, and he started to play the song on his guitar

Vince looked back as the girl sat down on the couch across from me and soon the song took off.

I smiled and nodded my head to the rhythm as Vince then started to sing the lyrics, reading from Nikki's sheet.

Plug me in
I'm alive tonight
Out on the streets again...

Actually sounded pretty okay.

I looked over and see the girl had a bit of a disgusted look on her face.

Turn me on
I'm hot to stop
Something you'll never forget
Take my fist
Break down walls...

"This isn't right!" she suddenly said over the music as she stood up, waving her arms at them to signal them to stop. "This isn't right!!"

"Alright. Stop!" Nikki said, signaling Mick and Tommy.

The guys then stopped and looked at her.

"Sorry, what?" Nikki sort of snapped.

I looked at her in confusion. What the hell is she doing?

"This music's way too heavy, baby," she snapped.

Tommy snickered quietly as I held back a laugh.

"Thank you," Nikki said sarcastically.

"Why don't we just tune it all down a whole step so he can," Mick said, motioning at Vince as the girl sat back down.

"Let's play it faster, too," Tommy said, a bit or sarcasm in his tone.

The girl grimaced softly as she nodded at him.

Nikki then went over to Vince as they looked over the lyrics while Mick tuned his guitar a little.

"If you, uh, really stretch out the chorus," he explained as he pointed at certain parts of the sheet. "And punch the top, man."

"Okay," Vince said as he nodded his head.

"And hit this note right here," Nikki pointed out, Vince nodding.

"And muzzle that," Nikki pointed out towards the girl, making me laugh a bit, covering my mouth with my hand

"Hey, fuck you, asshole!" she snapped as she got up. "He doesn't tell me what to do so go-!"

As she kept ranting, Mick smirked and started to play the song loudly over her voice.

I snickered as then the band began to play, this time a little differently as she went quiet, then sat back down as we listened and Vince started singing again.

Plug me in
I'm alive tonight
Out on the streets again
Turn me on
I'm hot to stop
Something you'll never forget
Take my fist
Break down walls
I'm on the top tonight
No no
You better turn me loose
You better set me free
'Cause I'm hot young running free
A little bit better than I use to be

'Cause I'm alive
Live wire
'Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire
'Cause I'm alive
Live wire

They sounded a lot better, to be honest, and I head banged a little as the girl seemed almost entranced.

"Holy shit..." she mumbled.

***

After practice, the girl left home.

Her name is Lovey apparently. She definitely showed a lot of that. Note sarcasm.

The boys all sat around, planning some stuff after officially welcoming Vince while I quickly cleaned some stuff up.

We all ordered a pizza and I had gotten my slice along with a beer before heading over to join them, seeing Tommy kill another roach how he usually does.

"Fucking roach! I'm gonna fix it!!" He cackled as he blasted it with fire, then doing the same with another. "Burn fuckers!!"

I gave him a glare as he looked up.

"What? It works," he said with a shrug.

I sighed as I walked over, sitting next to Mick as Tommy walked over to the couch next to Vince.

"So here's my theory," Nikki said as we were all settled.

Knowing it was mostly between them four, I knew I didn't exactly have a place or say, but Nikki and the guys didn't seem to mind me listening either way I guess.

I'm actually glad since I didn't want to be in the way or anything.

"If we want to knock people on their asses, we got to give them a show," he said. "The punks, they're doing the minimalist thing, so let's take it in the exact opposite direction."

Everyone nodded in agreement as Nikki continued.

"I'm talking a stadium show in the clubs, man," he said. "Like... Like costumes and lights, and-"

"Pyro!! Flames and shit!!" Tommy said. "Explosions!!

"Exactly," Nikki said as I laughed at Tommy. "Look, its a fucking war out there, and the only way we win is by showing these kids something they've never seen before."

"So what do we call this thing?" Vince asked.

Nikki nodded and started looking through his notebook.

"Where is it? Here," he mumbled quietly as I took a bite of my pizza.

"You know, its all about being, like, fucking larger than life," he said as he flipped through the pages.

He then found a specific page and then held the notebook up.

I raised an eyebrow questioningly at him.

"Xmass?" Vince asked, confused.

"Yeah," Nikki nodded.

"On a scale of one to ten," Mick sighed as he laid back on his chair. "That gets a 1.9."

Tommy, Vince and I chuckled quietly.

"Its a play on Christmas," Nikki explained. "You can use all the Christ imagery and shit. It'll piss people off and make people think, you know?"

"Ehh," Tommy shrugged a bit.

"Its got shock value," Nikki tried as the guys still disagreed.

"Yeah... I'm shocked by how much it blows," Mick said, and I laughed at that, along with the others.

"Alright then, assholes," Nikki scoffed as we laughed. "You give it a shot, but fucking make it big! Mal, you too."

I was surprised. "What, me? Guys this is your band, I'm just here to help at the sidelines."

"You did help with the song," Tommy shrugged.

"Its cool," Nikki assured as he handed me the notebook.

I hesitated at first, but then shrugged. "I guess giving an idea can't hurt."

I take the notebook as Mick handed me a pen and I started to think of something as Tommy got a notebook.

"Here, use my pen Tommy," Nikki said as everyone grabbed a notebook and started to think of something, Tommy already writing something down, giggling.

"What have you got, Tommy?" Nikki asked as we looked over from out papers.

Tommy then held up the notebook to Vince, burst out laughing as he then showed us.

I snickered quietly as Nikki burst out laughing, too, Mick shaking his head.

"The Fourskins, really, Tommy?" Nikki asked.

"Yeah! 'Cause we're gonna fuck the audience in the face every night!" he said, and I couldn't help but laugh a little.

Nikki laughed a little too. "Pfft! Yeah, but can you see that shit on the marquee above the Forum?" he asked as I then got an idea and wrote it out.

"Okay, you're right. I'm out," Tommy agreed, tossing the notebook aside.

"Same, I'm blank," Vince said.

Nikki then looked at me. "Got something, Mal?"

I pursed my lips. "Well... I kind of got the idea of your imagery thing and decided this," I said, holding up my idea.

"The Four Horsemen...." Nikki read, thinking about it.

"Not terrible, but its too expected," Mick said.

"Yeah, its just not ringing for me either," Vince said.

"I like where you're going with it, but it needs something more out there," Nikki pointed out.

"Well, I tried," I shrugged as I tossed my notebook, and then Nikki looked at Mick.

"Come on, Mick. You gotta do better than that," Nikki encouraged.

Mick looked up from where he was writing before holding up his notebook.

"I've been waiting a long time for this day," he nodded.

Nikki had a thinking look on his face as he nodded.

"Alright," he said, taking the notebook and reading it over before he smiled and nodded, then taking the marker Mick was using and scribbling something over it before holding it up to us.

I couldn't help but smile.

"That's perfect," I said as Vince and Tommy nodded enthusiastically, Mick smiling.

"That's it, dude," Tommy said excitedly.

"Right?" Nikki nodded.

"Yeah," Vince nodded.

And so, MÖTLEY CRÜE begins...
