Chapter Twenty Four

"I'm sorry!" Amy breathed out with a cheery grin as she sat on the chair across from Giselle.

"It's okay, I don't want to go back there any time soon," Giselle assured her as she sighed a little. She gently pushed a glass of water for her best friend who might need it after having to rush to meet her.

Amy thanked Giselle and took the glass of water to drink as she seemed to need so much of it to cool off. Giselle was having a half smile while looking at the empty seat next to her. It was wishful thinking that the trio could have a lunch date with laughter and jokes at the same table that they shared last week.

"You must have waited here for so long," Amy breathed out again after taking a half glass of water. The tiny girl swiftly waved at the waiter politely so that they could place order for the food. She also ordered Giselle's favorite food even though Giselle had no appetite after a week of hard times at work with her new co-worker who replaced her favorite senior.

"Not at all, I was out earlier," Giselle said with a small smile to her sweet friend.

"Good! You made a wise choice!" Amy winked at Giselle making her, "I don't think Miss Sloth could survive any longer. I already sent her an email as a gentle reminder for her to submit her work to me before the deadline!" Amy facepalmed and sighed, "That job Drew can send to me within 30 minutes after I passed for her. Didn't Miss Monica complain about her?"

Giselle shook her head and said, "Miss Monica just told me she needed me to work nights at home and she promised I can apply for OT."

"Has she lost her mind?" Amy said in disbelief and held Giselle's forearm and said, "That's unfair! You are too nice, Giselle. Monica should fire her."

"That's okay, since I'm bored and work is helping me to sleep after that," Giselle said with a small smile while she linked Amy's hand as assurance.

"Just apply to my department if that woman keeps bullying you?" Amy used a free hand to cover Giselle's hand and squealed, "Anyway, I'm so glad you finally agreed to see me!"

"I'm glad too, Amy. But I hope you would understand about my situation," Giselle said while trying to control her emotions before the tears rolled from her light brown eyes.

"Of course, I do, Giselle. Drew sent her regards for you," Amy said with a sad smile while leaning back in her seat and the waiter served the lunch on their table.

Giselle chuckled it off to avoid the emotion taking over her when she heard Drew's name. She had been missing her since the day they separated. Very much. "Thank you. Send my regards to her too."

Since that incident, depression and anxiety had taken Giselle's happy smile that she used to have. When she got a call from her brother after Drew left the office, she was afraid he would report to the police and cause them to get arrested. She was lost but just complied with her brother after he had threatened her with his knowledge about Drew.

After they got back home, Jordan did a great job to get their parents heartwarming smile turned into distaste after they watched the clip that had recorded from him. Giselle's parents looked angry and disappointed and had taken her phone and car keys from her to avoid her looking for Drew. Giselle didn't even get any chance to explain anything and was dismissed by her parents and got back to the room. Giselle's mind was drained and too tired to think but cried until she fell asleep.

Aside from Amy, Giselle couldn't trust anyone in the office since her parents warned her to behave and that someone would watch her for them. Giselle wanted to protect Amy and keep her from getting into trouble, and she had advised Amy to intercom her discreetly. The girls were smart, their conversation would be a discussion of work, but they could catch each other's meaning whenever they talked.

"Drew wanted to see you." Giselle's attention was drawn back by Amy, and she quickly said, "No, we can't do this. I don't want her to get into trouble, Amy."

"Giselle, I'm begging you. I can help with that for both of you. Drew had something to tell you, but she would prefer to tell you everything when you see her," Amy pleaded and asked softly, "You want to see her too, right?"

Giselle felt a knot climb into her throat and she only nodded her head in return, and quickly took a tissue to dab at her dampened eyes to avoid the tears messing her face.

"Come here," Amy said with her teary eyes and she joined next to her best friend and wrapped an arm around Giselle's shoulder and the brunette started crying.

"How is she?" Giselle asked with her cracked voice after a while.

Amy quickly wiped her tears and shook her head, saying sadly, "She misses you."

Giselle sniffled and she couldn't stop crying. Amy seemed sad to watch her best friend like that and she gently caressed Giselle's arm to share comfort, but that made her join the brunette and cry.

"I miss her too..." Giselle said with a voice that was rough after a long cry.

"I know. I miss our lunch date and girls' talk so much," Amy sniffed while swiftly taking off her glasses and using a tissue to wipe the tears around her eyes.

"Don't take so long, Maylee. I don't trust her," Giselle's mom reminded her again after she pulled over the car right in front of 'Meet The Cafe' the dessert shop that Giselle and Drew first time went there for brunch after they changed her car's battery at the nearby workshop.

"I promise what I have said, mom," Giselle emphasized the promise to her mom while looking at the dessert shop through the front door car window with a sigh.

"Make it fast then," the older lady said in a firm motherly tone to make sure her daughter behaved.

"Okay, mom," Giselle quickly said and got out of the car without any delay for her mom's sake.

The brunette's heart lifted up when she thought of seeing her girlfriend again. A smile from the bottom of her heart spread on her fair face. She tried to put light makeup on her swollen eyes since there was the river of tears whenever she thought about missing Drew. Unfortunately, that was whenever her mind wasn't occupied with work, so they were constantly red.

Making this opportunity to see her love was torturing her heart even though it was just a lie to her mother that she was seeing Drew and breaking up with her. She would never want to think about the day they were leaving each other. However, it was worth it for Giselle's excuse worked, and she could finally see Drew after a torturing week without a phone and friends aside from Amy.

The brunette pushed the door and looked at the spot that they sat at that day, and her heart skipped a beat when she found her pretty senior sitting at the same seat with two breakfast sets and coffees.

Drew had tightened her hair in a high ponytail, with the thick black framed glasses on her pale face that she always wore at home, a white t-shirt, a pair of ripped denim jeans, and beige sneakers. Drew was beautiful in Giselle's eyes, especially the pair of long arms folded on the table that look stunning.

Giselle briskly walked to the table when Drew waved at her with the smile she missed—especially the smiley small eyes. The brunette would jump right in her senior arms if they were alone, but right as she slipped into the seat across from Drew, she despaired when she thought about the limitation of time seeing Drew.

"Hey," Drew greeted with a smirk, and Giselle chuckled that her senior was the best one to lighten the mood after they never saw each other for so long.

"Hey," Giselle eventually greeted in return with a small smile and said, "I missed your puffy face."

"So, my diet plan has worked," Drew joked with a chuckle and Giselle frowned at her senior and said, "You know I don't like when you diet, right?"

"I just don't feel like trying to eat, but I will try," Drew admitted and asked in concern while looking at Giselle's fair face, "I heard that you are getting busy, but you still need to get your lunch on time. I don't want you to get an ulcer."

"I did eat. Amy practically takes me out for lunch every day, or I'll take my bento to her department and eat. Otherwise, she would drag me to her place if I never appeared at her office within 5 minutes," Giselle said pursed lips and that earned a hearty laugh from the taller girl across the table.

"I'm glad Amy did her great job," Drew said with a small smile and she turned to unzip her sling bag before taking out two air tickets and putting them on the table.

"I know this might be shocking to you, but do you mind if I take a little time to explain this to you?" Drew quickly said when she saw that the adorable brunette seemed to be caught off guard when she saw the tickets that were flying to Australia. Giselle nodded her head slowly and waited for Drew to explain.

"Okay," Drew said and she took a deep breath and started explaining. "Since the day I left that place and you left, I've been lost. I had no idea what I should do after losing my job. I even locked myself down and didn't reply or text anyone including Lilah and Amy for about 3 days. I had spent those three days thinking about what would work for both of us. So, I called Lilah for advice and asked Amy for help. I was lucky, Amy told me that Zach's uncle is a citizen of Australia, and he is running a fishing charter company with his husband. And good news. They would be happy to help us with getting a job, a living place, and a working visa in Melbourne!" Drew seemed relieved after she had explained the full story, but her face slightly fell when she realized the brunette seemed not excited as she thought.

Everything Drew had planned seemed like a whirlwind for Giselle, she knew her parents would go crazy if Giselle told them she would leave with Drew instead. But she was afraid to give any answer that she couldn't promise.

"I can't," Giselle sobbed as the tears spilled from the brim of her eyes.

A flash of hurt on Drew's face, but a faint smile remained on her face as she gently patted Giselle's hand, and assured her softly, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you too far."

"No, please. I never think like that," Giselle quickly used a tissue to dab her tears and sniffed softly, "I love my parents and can't just leave them like that." Giselle trailed off as her eyes looked down at the table and said in a small voice, "I need time to make things work, Min."

"It's okay, Maylee," Drew's voice was soothing yet a trembling exhale. "I will respect your decision. You don't have to decide right now, but that's the only thing I think might work for us. Maybe you're not going with me, but I will always wait for you until you find the love that your parents are happy with." The evidence in her voice showed Drew was weighted with sadness.

Giselle knew she was a sobbing mess, with her makeup running, but she didn't care because she could feel how much pain she had put on her loved one. Her blurry sight saw Drew gently push the air ticket toward her and could hear her force a chuckle, "Who knows, you might change your mind someday."

Giselle knew this would be the last time they saw each other as her eyes swiftly shifted to her girlfriend, it hurt to see Drew trying hard to smile, but the eyes were reddened, and the tears were leaking from her eyes. She was devastated. This reminded Giselle of the day Drew was crying when her late adoptive mom passed. It was the pain that weighed on her chest.

"I'm so sorry," Giselle kept wiping off her tears and saying it again and again like a mantra.

"Don't be..." Drew assured Giselle, and trying to comfort her, Giselle could see Drew was desperate to hug her, but they couldn't since Giselle's mom was waiting for her in her car outside the shop.

"I think I should go," Drew sighed softly before saying the words that opened a fresh wound, "Goodbye, Maylee." Drew gradually stood up as she briskly walked to the exit door of the restaurant without looking back.
