Chapter Four

Nothing beat the warm evening since the sunset view in the busy city was decent. As usual, the girl driving in her black Vios was chilling out and swiftly turned up the volume of the latest Kpop song playing on the radio while humming along with the chorus of the song.

Drew was getting excited with the song, her slender fingers were drumming the steering wheel, while she knitted her brow, and slightly tilted her head to refresh her memory.

The melody of the song was familiar to Drew, and she was trying to remember the song she had heard from someone. In a split second, Drew's eyes shot wide open as she realized the new little cutie had hummed this song too.

Drew chuckled, shaking her head, and grinned like an idiot to herself that her mind was occupied by every little detail of the brunette she just met. Especially the pair of doll like eyes and smiling pouty lips perfectly displayed on her beautiful face.

Also, her chestnut curly hair and nice clothing that clung to the appealing curves of her body were mesmerizing.

Stop it Drew, quit that!

The girl in her black Vios chewed her inner cheek as she lightly knocked her forehead on the sterling a few times to calm down.

Who wouldn't be drawn to a bubbly and adorable girl like Giselle? Everyone would do so.

Drew shrugged it off and kept reminded to herself that the cutie was a nice friend like Amy. Yes, Drew had been through enough, and she never wanted to be miserable again. But, these two girls were beautiful inside and out, unlikely other ladies in her working place who were fakers and constantly gossiping.

She was right, she was supposed to make friends with the girls she liked instead of thinking something could blossom that would happen between them. But, how could she resist since she was a sucker for the cuties who were perfect and a total package? If only they were sharing the same sexuality as her.

Drew blew out a huff from her lips, looked at the traffic light once again which just flicked from red into green, and she knew she had to keep driving and stay safe for the journey to her home.

It had taken 45 minutes for Drew to drive home in the heavy traffic. The drive only took 20 minutes to drive if it was traffic free. Eventually, Drew pulled up her car to the garage of the corner unit double-story terrace house.

She stretched her arms over her head after getting out of her car, and she smiled at the warm homey view of the mini garden filled with her mom's favorite flowers. She was grateful the house remained the same and that her nanny, Delilah, has well taken care of it.

After a nice stretch of her stiff body, she inhaled the delicious aroma of the home cooking that smelled amazing, and her belly was growling in agreement. Drew hummed loud enough for tanned skin and plump lady in her plain floral green sundress who just walked out to the porch to gaze at her with a wide grin.

"There you are, Min Min!" the lady's voice was always nice to hear and welcoming for Drew.

Drew happily walked toward her favorite nanny and pulled her into a firm hug she always needed. Drew let her eyes close and sighed comfortably when her nanny returned the firm hug and gently patted her head as she whispered sharply, "Hurry get a shower and don't plan to diet tonight."

They pulled away as Drew chuckled since she had gained a few pounds after her nanny came back. Drew jokingly rubbed her belly with pursed her lips, "How could I get rid of this with you feeding me your sinful foods every day?"

"I have cooked curry chicken rice for us," Delilah sang along with a giggle knowing Drew couldn't resist.

"Well, I'm not just a sucker for the cuties, but also a sucker for Delilah's cooking," Drew mocked with a sigh.

The nanny gently patted her shoulder as she pushed her a little, and said, "Go get yourself comfortable and join the fun with mom before she catches you!"

"Okay, I'll be quick," Drew whispered as she quickly slipped off her heels and carefully put them on the shoe rack without making a noise. Before entering the house, she turned to look at her nanny and asked with a grin, "May I get some extra for tomorrow?"

Delilah seemed amused since Drew never ask for that, she grinned and pointed out, "I already prepared one for you even though you would normally say no."

"Perfect! Thank you, Lilah!" Drew grinned as she quietly entered the house and she smiled a little when the view of the living room and a skin-and-bone white-haired lady in her plain white pajamas, an oxygen tube in her nose to support her breathing, and half sitting on her favorite queen size bed in the middle of the living room as she focused on the TV.

The elderly lady in white, smiling at the TV while hugging a beige pillow securely on her chest like a kid holding a plush toy and watching their favorite cartoon or TV show. Her dark irises of her eyes were illuminated by the Korean series playing on the screen.

The lady giggled at the same scene she had been watching again and again which was her favorite all the time. But, she would never remember that scene after she slept. "Look at them," the lady beamed and shook her head slowly, "What took them so long to do this? That is so sweet!"

It didn't take long for Drew to get herself into some comfortable home wear with a dark gray baggy shirt and black shorts after a nice shower and dinner. She switched her glasses to black full-frame glasses on her pale face and put her hair in a lazy bun.

She was happily holding a bowl of her mom's and her favorite yogurt with strawberry cubes they used to eat whenever spending their weekend or occasionally weekday in the evening since they both would keep their diet, and she was ready to feed her mom.

Drew finally slipped onto the bed, carefully scooting closer so as not to interrupt her mom from enjoying the series, and she scoop a spoon of the yogurt with strawberries to feed her mom.

When the older lady realized something appeared in her view, her eyes were gleaming knowing it was her favorite food as she happily but slowly parted her mouth and ready for the yummy dessert to be served. The lady let her eyes close and happily savor the great taste of yogurt and she hummed, "Thank you, Cheryl."

Nothing surprised Drew about this, her mom always mistook her for the nurse who recently took care of her before she was discharged from the hospital. Drew would never be sad or upset about it since she understood her mom's condition.

The daughter planted a soft kiss on her mom's cheek and asked, "Look at who is giving you a nice kiss?"

The older lady's eyes fluttered open and a wide grin slowly spread on her face, "Min Min?" she turned to look at her daughter, but her smile disappeared, looking confused as she weakly shook her head and murmured, "But, she is still a child." She thought for a while and she frowned at the stranger next to her, "Liar."

Drew smiled softly at her mom, put down the bowl of yogurt on her lap, and hummed the lullaby that her mom used to sing for her to sleep. It took about a minute, her mom's face eventually softened, and she happily joined her daughter to finish humming the song.

"Oh, that is my Min Min's favorite song," the older lady said in her trembling voice as she used one of her hands and shakily cradled her daughter's cheek. She pursed her lips and the tears leaked down her face and she sniffled, "I can't believe you have grown up, Min Min." She paused for a while for steadying her breathing and added, "I miss the day you were a little girl with a braid."

"Do you like me to tie my hair in a braid?" Drew asked with a grin as her mom happily but slowly nodded her head, "I like that a lot."

Drew pulled off the hair band as she started tightening the braid on her hair and asked her mom, "Do I look good, mom?"

"Beautiful. My baby girl is always so beautiful," the white-haired lady smiled warmly at her daughter.

Delilah finally joined the mother and daughter after she cleaned the dishes and the kitchen. The elderly lady's eyes were getting heavy while she had laid her head on her daughter's shoulder, and the pair knew it was time for the lady to call it a night.

Drew lowered the TV volume, and the pair helped the older lady recline on the bed to sleep. The nanny bid goodnight to the mother and daughter as she switched off all the lights to keep a dim light in the living room before entering her room.

"Good night mom," the daughter whispered as she leaned in closer to kiss her mom's cheek. She carefully laid down next to her mom and watched the older lady close her eyes, her breathing was getting steady which was a hint she had fallen asleep.

Drew was looking at her mom, feeling despair that the lady in front of her used to be plump as her nanny but now had dropped tons of weight. She was struggling with Alzheimer's disease, and dialysis treatment for 5 years, and she got a heart problem a month ago.

There had no better news from the doctor since her mom had kidney failure. Drew's dad was 68 years old healthy man at that time, decided to retire from his auto workshop business and full-time took care of his wife.

This man always had an optimistic mind, calm, and a bright smile on his face to handle everything. He assured Drew that her mom would gonna be fine as long as he was with her all the time.

Everything seemed good, but the angel had taken her dad away after he had passed on his 73rd birthday.

Drew was crushed and lost after her dad was gone, and she was getting worried about her mom when her Alzheimer's was getting serious within a month after her dad had passed. When Delilah, who had retired, heard this sad news, she decided to come back to help Drew take care of her mom and the house.

Drew was grateful and felt a little better that her nanny came back for them. However, they get sad news about her mom's heart from a doctor, and that her age was a risk to do surgery to replace the valve. After a discussion with her nanny, the best decision was to keep her mom happy and she stayed in the house instead of living in a hospital.

They couldn't tell how long her mom would live, Drew decided to take a short vacation at the beach resort with her mom and her nanny to make the best memories for them.

The silence, worries, pain, and darkness eat up the younger girl next to the fragile lady, and the tears leaked down from the younger girl's eyes.

Drew's parents weren't her birth parents, but her adoptive parents. Their love and care filled the happiness and emptiness of their beloved daughter. Her adoptive parents decided to adopt her after her mother had struggled to conceive for years. She was their pride and joy.

When she met them were in their mid-50s. Most of the kids weren't as lucky as Drew, and she was blessed that her adoptive parents were kind and loving. She was happy and she only wished she would meet them at a younger age so she could have spent a little longer time with them.

Drew's heart was aching when as she realized her mom could be leaving at any time with her body condition. She wrinkled up her face and cried with the pain in her chest that had never gone away since the day her dad passed. She couldn't afford to lose her mom, but nothing she could do except hope for more time.

She knew angels loved to take kind people like her dad away, and she could only wish that the angels came after she had celebrated their favorite Christmas festival together.
