Chapter 25 💁🏻♀
7 years ago in Oklahoma, USA
On the campus of University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, there stood a group of 3 boys and 1 girl, chattering about some not so important topics as they had a free period together after attending their lectures for the day.
The boys were teasing the girl playfully while she was sulking at them. "Alele, the cupid, the matchmaker and the god of love of this University is sulking over here. Can someone please help us to publish this occasional news on the newspaper tomorrow?" One of the boys said dramatically, pulling the cheek of the girl.
"Shut up!" She swatted away his hand.
"Awww, why is the cupid so cranky today? Didn't you get any matchmaking proposal today?" Another boy asked in a mocking tone and she groaned in irritation.
"Don't play with me, Sid! Or else I will curse you to be single for the rest of your life." She said, trying to sound dangerous but the boys burst out laughing at her poker face.
"And you! I will curse you to meet the love of your life today but you won't get her that easily. She will hate you in your first meeting and you will have to chase her, begging for her love like a lovesick puppy." She added, looking at the guy who pulled her cheek few seconds ago.
"Hey Pari, stop cursing around like a witch. I've vowed to stay single till the end of my university life and I've successfully accomplished it till today so I will definitely continue it in this final year too." The guy said, his confidence being evident in his tone.
"Let's see that." She huffed and left from there when her eyes caught a guy who was stalking a girl without that girl's knowledge from a few meters away from her.
"Why did she leave? Did we tease her too much today?" Siddharth asked his friends.
"Nahh, it's not what you think, Sid. She just saw a guy over there stalking a girl so being the overexcited cupid as she always is, she has gone to aim at the girl with her arrow to let her fall in love with the stalker guy." His friend named, Lucas waved away casually by laughing at her antics.
Suddenly Sid shrieked excitedly after glancing at his watch and quickly grabbed his bag to leave from there but he was stopped by his friends.
"Hey Sid, where are you going now?" Lucas asked Sid who was trying to leave from there.
"It's time for my sister to participate in the boxing match now. I can't miss it." Sid said in an enthusiastic tone.
"Sister? Which sister? Don't tell me it's that Jaanvi." Lucas said in a teasing tone.
"Bullshit! I would never ever call that bitch as my sister." Sid spat at Lucas.
"Then which sister? The one who was in high school last year?" His other friend asked.
"Yes, Veer. She's the one. Now will you guys please let me go before the match ends?" Sid sighed restlessly.
"Hey come on Sid, why are you so excited for the catfight now?" Veer asked, rolling his eyes and Sid glared at him.
"You know what, just come with me and see it yourself whether it's a catfight or a real boxing match." Saying that, Sid dragged Veer with him without listening to his protests while Lucas followed them quietly.
Three of them entered into the auditorium where various types of sports were going on. Since it was the beginning of the year, the university management was conducting various extracurricular sport events for the freshers to show their own unique talents in them.
Sid spotted the boxing ring where his sister was participating and dragged his friends there. "Damn! The match has already started." Sid groaned, glaring at his friends who were rolling their eyes with lack of interest.
When they saw two girls throwing punches at each other in the boxing ring, Lucas came forward and asked Sid, "Who is your sister in it? The one in red or purple?"
"I think the one in red because she is the one receiving most of the punches from her opponent." Veer answered instead of Sid and snickered at him.
"Bastard! My sister is the one throwing punches there. The one in purple. What do you think of her? She is the champion of Junior Boxing Tournament that was held last year in New York!" Sid snapped at Veer, making him gape at him.
Veer instantly snapped his head towards the girl in purple but groaned exasperatedly when she turned away, showing her back to him. He started jumping on his spot curiously to get a glance at Sid's sister but Sid pushed him away as he was blocking his view.
"Veer, why the hell are you jumping like a monkey? Let me cheer for my sister now. Don't disturb my view!"
"But I want to see her face." Veer mumbled, earning a glare from Sid and a snicker from Lucas.
"Shut up, man! The match is going to end now. Keep quiet and let me focus." Sid turned back to his sister and started cheering for her while Veer was observing her physical features keenly even though he couldn't get a clear sight of her face.
Slowly his frown was replaced with a wide grin when Sid's sister turned towards him. Veer's eyes bulged out when he got a clear sight of her facial features.
Ufff! I never knew this fellow has such a beautiful and fierce sister.
Veer thought, drooling over the girl.
A loud squeal from Sid startled Veer and he composed himself when he realised that the match ended. Sid's sister was announced as the winner and Veer excitedly moved forward when she climbed down the ring and ran towards his direction.
Like a nutcase, he spread his arms wide when the girl ran towards him with a huge grin on her face. When she was near to him, she gave him a weird look and pushed him aside before climbing on Sid who was standing behind him.
Veer turned around disappointedly only to get more embarrassed as Lucas was laughing on his face, holding his stomach while Sid twirled his little sister in the air who was squealing happily in his arms.
"Siddhu! I've won once again." The girl stated merrily and Veer's grin was back on display.
Such a melodious voice.
He thought again.
"Close your mouth. Already 5 mosquitoes and 3 flies entered into your mouth." Lucas said, closing Veer's lips and Veer glared at him. "Man, that was damn dramatic. What did you think? She will come, throwing herself on you when you spread your arms like that? God! Your face was worth watching just now when she pushed you away." Lucas said, rolling on the floor laughing again.
Veer punched on Lucas's abs and asked him to shut his mouth as the brother and sister duo turned towards them. "Siddhu, they are your friends right? I think this is Veer and this is Lucas. Am I correct?" She asked in an excited tone.
"Yes, princess. You are absolutely correct. Guys, this is my little doll, Bani." Sid said, ruffling Bani's hair to which she pouted at him.
Lucas greeted her with a formal handshake while Veer continued grinning at her when she forwarded her hand to him. Bani frowned and was about to pull back but Veer quickly held her hand and started caressing it.
Wow, such a soft and warm hand. I can hold it for the rest of my li--
Veer was brought back to the reality when Sid pulled back Bani's hand as he was holding it longer than needed. Sid glared at Veer while he gave him a sheepish smile.
"Bani, you know what? This fellow just said that your boxing match looked like a catfight for him." Sid said, smirking at Veer and Bani clenched her fists.
"Catfight, huh? Ask him to come inside the ring now and I will show him what is the reality." She said, glaring at Veer while controlling her urge to pounce on him.
"What? No! I didn't say such thing. Sid, stop lying to your sister and leaving a bad impression of me." He scolded Sid and turned towards Bani, "Hey doll, I swear I never said that after seeing your match." Veer said in an assuring tone.
"I'm not a doll! Don't call me that." Bani spat at him angrily and his face turned pale.
"Okay, I'm sorry." He surrendered by raising his hands and she rolled her eyes before turning back to Sid.
Bani left after having a short conversation with her brother but not before passing a formal smile at Lucas and a glare at Veer.
"Bye, Bani! See you again!" Veer shouted when she started walking away and she shook her head without turning back at him.
"I would like to remind you that she's my sister and also the daughter of this University's Dean." Sid smacked Veer.
"So what?" Veer asked absentmindedly but soon glared at him when he remembered something. "Wait, why did you lie to her? I called it a catfight before seeing the match, you idiot!" He started punching Sid for spoiling his image in front of his sister.
Seems like Pari's curse has started working on him.
Lucas thought, observing Veer's abnormal behaviour which started from the moment he met Bani as he had never drooled over any girl like he did just now.
The next day after having a long sleepless night, Veer decided to meet Bani again and apologize to her as he didn't want her to dislike him for his previous comment. He searched for her in the business faculty as he heard from Sid that she just recently joined the BBA course.
He was searching for her in the first year section and finally found her in one of the classes. He smiled seeing her sitting in the last row while talking animatedly with a girl sitting beside her. He stepped forward but stopped when he saw the girl beside Bani.
Wait! It looks like Pari. But what's she doing in a first year class?
He frowned and walked towards them as the class was having a free period without any professor there. Bani stopped talking once her eyes met with his and she narrowed her eyes at him.
"Hey bro, what are you doing here?" She asked him and Veer widened his eyes.
Bro? Did she just call me her bro? Nahh, it could be someone else.
He turned back to see if there's anyone behind him. "Veer bro, I'm talking to you." Bani called him again and he snapped his head towards her with his mouth hung open.
"No! Don't call me that. You can call me Veer, Veeranshu or anything else but not that bro please." He said in a disgusted tone while Pari chuckled at him.
"Why bro? You are 4 years older than her so she has all the rights to call you her bro." Pari winked at him and he scowled at her. Pari learned from Lucas the previous day on how Veer behaved after seeing Bani so she decided to use the chance to pull his legs there.
"You little brat, what are you doing in a first year class? You are supposed to be in the second year class now, aren't you?" Veer raised his eyebrow at her.
Before Pari could answer him, Bani spoke again. "Oh, you know him already?" She asked Pari and Pari nodded at her.
"Yes, I know him. I think you forgot that we are neighbours as he's sharing the room with Sid." She answered Bani and turned to Veer again. "It's my wish to be wherever I want. Now you tell me what are you doing in a business faculty, Mr soon-to-be doctor?"
"No, you first tell me what are you doing in this class." Veer asked back.
Pari opened her mouth to snap at him but Bani beat her to it. "She failed in the accounting subject last year so she's taking that again with me now."
Veer laughed at Pari mockingly while she glared at Bani for spilling the beans to him. "Enough. Now will you please leave us if you are done with your free laughing session? You're blocking the oxygen supply to us." Pari huffed at him, pretending like fanning her face.
"You shut up and mind your own business, Ms Cupid. I'm not here to talk to you. And Bani, if you don't mind, can you please come out with me. I need to tell you something." He smiled at her extra sweetly and Bani raised her eyebrow at him.
"About what?" She asked him.
"Please?" He pouted at her and Pari made a disgusted look on her face.
"Oh please! Don't pout like that. It doesn't suit you at all." Pari said and Veer smacked her head to which she purred at him.
After staring at his face for good 2 minutes, Bani finally agreed to his request and followed him outside. They walked through the corridor silently until Veer decided to break the silence between them.
"I'm sorry for what happened yesterday. I didn't mean to sound rude but initially I thought that female boxing game would usually be like a catfight but yesterday only I realised how biased and judgemental I was." He apologized to her sincerely.
"Hey, that's alright. I already forgot about it." She waved away coolly and Veer heaved a sigh of relief.
"So you are not angry or upset with me?" He asked and she shook her head.
"No, not at all. Why should I be upset with you? I don't even know who are you besides that you are my brother's best friend and roommate." She shrugged, making his smile drop off his face.
"Okay, then let's get to know about each other now. Tell me about yourself." He said and Bani chuckled at him.
"Is this any kind of interview session?" She asked, suppressing the smile of amusement forming on her face.
"No, I mean we can get to know more about each other in this way. You tell me about yourself and I will tell you about myself." Veer suggested, pushing his hands inside his pant pockets while walking with her.
"But why? What's the need for it? You belong to the medicine group and I belong to the business group. We don't have any necessity to know about each other." She said, being too straightforward and Veer sighed in defeat.
Okay, I don't think it's going to be easy with her.
"Hmm okay." Veer mumbled.
"Okay then got to go, bye." Saying that, she ran back to her class and Veer stood there watching her retreating figure with a deep frown on his face.
Arghh! Why are you behaving like a bloody teenager, Veer? Get a grip on yourself man!
This continued for one whole month with Veer's countless attempts to get in Bani's good books while Bani kept dodging away his every attempts. This thing didn't go unnoticed by Sid and Pari but both of them weren't interfering much since they knew what a gentleman Veer was as they had never seen him showing so much interest in any girl before Bani. But little did they know that another pair of evil eyes was also observing everything from the beginning with both extreme hatred against Bani and irrational obsession on Veer.
Hey sweethearts, how's the first chapter of their past? Is it up to your expectations or not even anywhere near to it? 🤔
