Chapter 6- Not Adjusted

I've decided to start writing (Y/n) in 2nd person now!!! Maybe it will be more immersive? 030

'A-Am I really going to do this?' You nervously gulped and wiped your sweaty palms onto your blazer.

"Ahhh...!" You silently screamed and scratched through your (h/l) (h/c). You bit down onto your lip and felt a creeping sensation in your stomach.

'I think I am going to pass out instead...' You sighed and placed a hand onto the wall. You looked up to the sky and took in a deep breath.

"I-I can do it..!" You nodded your head and hesitantly walked to the doors.

"Ahh, no I can't...!" You whined and shot your hand away from the door.

*Creak*

"(L/n) senpai...?" Kindachi opened the door with a surprised and dumbfounded expression. After all, he witnessed you with your hand in midair as if you were about to smack him.

"S-s-sorry...!" You paled, and your lips began to quiver. You shot your hand behind you and awkwardly looked away.

"D-did you want to enter the gym...?" He blinked his eyes and stiffly moved out of the way.

"Ah... S-sure..." You shuffled your way through the doors in embarrassment. You felt that if you were to run off, you would create an even bigger embarrassment for yourself.

"Oh~! Hello~!" Oikawa turned his head and waved to.

"Trashykawa! Set the net properly!" Iwaizumi scolded as he caught the slipping pole.

"...!" Your eyes bulged out in shock when the pole began to slip but felt immediate relief when Iwaizumi had caught it.

"(L/n)." The head coach called out to from the benches.

You turned around to take note of who was calling you and turned back to the childhood pair. You awkwardly bowed your head to the two and trotted over to the head coach.

"Iwa-chan~, did you do something to her yesterday? She looks more pale than ever." Oikawa pursed his lips and eyed his friend suspiciously.

"Huh? What the hell are you spewing?" Iwaizumi glared at Oikawa. An irk mark popped onto his forehead, and his fist was threateningly raised up to eye level.

"Nothing, nothing~!" Oikawa dragged out and shuffled away to the sanctuary of his kouhais.

Iwaizumi let out an annoyed sigh and brought his fist down. He looked over to where you stood and let out an exhalation of a chuckle.

"Oi, Shittykawa. Set for us!"

"I got it, I got it! Geez, such harsh names..."

"H-hello..." You bowed your head to the coaches and timidly folded your hands in front of you.

"Hello (L/n)." The coach nodded his head. "Have you made up your mind?"

"... Yes." You lifted your head, and your folded hands tightened its grip.

'Should I just say the opposite? I... I don't feel confident or comfortable...'

"I-I, uh, I..." You began to stutter on your words that fumbled with the thoughts in your head.

'Wh-what do I do...?' Your eyes began to water as you struggled to speak.

You quickly glanced at the practicing team and surprisingly made eye contact with Iwaizumi. You flinched and almost bit your tongue when you both knew that you met eyes.

"Ah..." You breathed out, and your shoulders began to relax.

Iwaizumi gave you a thumbs up before having to avert his attention back to the practice. It was short and small gesture, but it helped encouraged you.

You turned your head back to the coached and bowed your upper body.

"I-I would like to j-j-join as the manager...!" You clenched onto the ends of your sleeves and tightly shut your eyes.

"Haha, you don't have to be that nervous. I don't have a reason to reject you joining when I had personally asked." The head coach chuckled.

You lifted your head and body back up. You looked up at the coached and unknowingly had a couple of tears slip out.

The tension of the conflicting decision you had and wanted to make had so much impact and pressure on you.

"Th-thank you...!" You bowed your head and had quickly wiped away at the tears you deemed as silly and embarrassing.

"Do you have your admission form?" The younger coach asked.

"Ah...!" You froze in place and felt the pressure drop back onto your shoulders and back. "I-I, my father suddenly had a, uh, business trip! I couldn't get a signature. Sorry..."

'I got too ahead of myself...! Ahh, I shouldn't have created a scene!' You frowned and bowed your head yet again.

"That should be fine." The head coach hummed in thought and then let out a small chuckle. "As long as you can bring it on Monday."

"That should give us enough time before the practice match on Tuesday." The younger coach elaborated.

"Th-thank you...!" You let out a sigh of relief and placed a hand over your fast paced heart.

"Everyone, stop for a few minutes! Gather around!" The head coach shouted.

"Eh." You muttered.

Once the team gathered around you and the coaches and silenced down, you could only hear your pounding heart as if they were blasted speakers at a club. Your stomach felt unstable at the sudden closure of tall and built individuals, who seemed to have a much, much bigger build than you.

When Iwaizumi nudged his teammates near him, they began to take a couple of steps back. This created a domino effect for others who noticed or did not notice the reason why.

Grateful, you felt more at ease with the consideration of distance at this sudden huddle-up.

"Everyone, greet your manager!" The head coach loudly announced.

"HELLO!" The team gave a hearty greeting to the new member, which temporarily startled you.

"H-hello..." You shyly raised a hand in greetings. "P-please take care of me..." You bowed your head.

"Wah! Finally! We have a manager...!" Watari exclaimed.

"Sniff, a cute manager...!" Yahaba cried and leaned onto Matsukawa.

"Hooray~!" Oikawa laughed and threw out a peace sign, but was obstructed by Iwaizumi.

'S-surely this should be fine...' You nervously gulped and laughed.

"Continue doing warmups now everyone." The head coach said. "You can chat after practice."

"Watch us practice cutie-chan~!"

"... S-sure..." You uncomfortably scratched your cheek and looked away, unsure of how to respond to such title.

"Dummy." Iwaizumi whacked Oikawa in the back of the head and dragged him away.

"Sh-should I fill the water bottles...?" You turned back to the coaches.

"Yeah, go ahead and do that. Bottles are cleaned after every practice."

You nodded your head and grabbed the couple of containers holding the water bottles. You opened the gym door with your elbow and exited the gym.

After a few steps, you came to a hold and began to panic.

"Wh-where is the fountain...?" You paled and began to sweat nervously.

'M-maybe around the gym...!' You reassured yourself and took a deep breath. You trotted around the gym and fortunately found the fountain.

You began filling the bottles one by one. The peacefulness of the quiet area with the distant sounds of squeaking shoes across the waxed wooden floors and pounding volleyballs was calming. The world was quiet but not silent.

'A manager... That is fine. That doesn't call for a lot of attention...' You let out a subtle smile and softly exhaled.

'Plus, th-they don't seem bad... It's fine.' You closed the cap to the last bottle and picked up the container trays of bottles.

You lightly trotted back into the gym and walked back towards the benches to place down the bottles. Letting yourself catch your breath, you took a few deep breaths fanned your face.

"I-is there anything else?" You pipped up to the coach.

"During breaks, hand out towels and water bottles to the players." The coach said.

"But for now, just watch the match and get familiar with their playing style." The head coach grinned as his eyes were scanning the players and the game.

You raised a brow due to the expectation that you would just be doing chores around the team such as washing jerseys, filling and cleaning bottles, and cleaning up the gym. You didn't quite anticipate analyzing the players as a more heavy role.

You walked towards the end of the bench and sat down. You places your folded hands onto your lap and quietly began to watch the practice.

"Nice serve!" Iwaizumi shouted.

Oikawa threw his fist into the air and childishly laughed in mockery at his teammates. He began boasting about his serve until Iwaizumi hurriedly shut him up so that they could continue playing.

"Akira senpai! You could have gotten that!" Kindachi exclaimed.

"Hah..." The said boy looked away from him.

Practice soon came to an end, so you decided to go ahead and wash the empty bottles. You didn't want to bother or burden any of the tired players, so you quietly went out by yourself.

'The practice today was much more intense today... They're such a well balanced and strong team...' You buried yourself in thought and set down the trays. You grabbed the newly unpackaged sponge and started washing the bottles.

'Everything is going fine right now. It's silly to think I was so worried—'

"(L/n)-san."

"UWAH!" You jumped in shock and threw the sponge into the sink of the fountain. You accidentally slapped your soapy hands over your face and immediately regretted it.

"(L-L/n)...?!"

"S-s-sorry Iwaizumi senpai?!" You twisted your body back towards the faucet and rinsed off your hands and the soap in your eyes and on your face.

'How embarrassing...!' You bit your lip and wiped down your face with the sleeves of your blazer. You felt the heat rise up to your face and the top of your head.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you..." Iwaizumi sweatdropped.

"I-it's fine. I left w-without a word..." You jaggedly laughed, which died down in a couple of seconds. You embarrassedly picked up a tray of bottles and Iwaizumi graciously took the other.

"I'm glad you decided to join, (L/n)-san." Iwaizumi conversed with you.

"R-really?" You looked away, still embarrassed from the recent scene and still timid of conversing.

"Yeah. And if we cause trouble for you, just yell at us."

"S-senpai, I-I don't think I can..." You nervously sweatdropped. Still, you felt more comfortable with the casual-like humor Iwaizumi.

"Good work, everyone!" The team bowed and earnestly said once the gym was completely cleaned.

"Hah..." You sighed and dabbed your (f/c) handkerchief onto your slightly sweaty forehead.

"(L/n)-san! Want to walk with us?" Watari jogged over to and asked.

"S-sorry! I have to stop by the market first!" You waved your hand and politely smiled.

"Should we come wi—"

Akira pinched Yahaba's arm before he could finish talking and told him to s̶h̶u̶t̶ u̶p̶ quiet down.

"See you on Monday." Hanamaki said before anyone else could question you, which you were grateful for.

You departed in separate ways from the team at the entrance. You let out a long sigh and felt your legs wobble.

'I lied to them...' You felt guilty and bit your lip and went into the convenience store to buy some crackers and a (fav flavor) ice cream.

Exiting the store, you solemnly walked home alone in the comfort of your loneliness.
