Chapter 7
Elliott and Ella's argument was cut short by the bell, which rang suddenly. I jumped and gripped Elliott's hand and we'd headed off to English, thankfully being ignored by both my ex best friend and Ella.
Seth had, quite literally, avoided me like I was some rodent who kept going to him for food. Of course, I shared the lack of responses, but I knew that Seth wasn't going to last long. We didn't argue. The only other thing I knew for sure was that I wasn't going to be there when he needed me. Not after he'd severed ties with an age-old friend just because I decided to forgive somebody.
Elliott and I were in my room. He was hunting through my piles of CDs, every now and then shoving one into a stack which I noticed was full of bands ranging from rock to metal.
"Good music taste," he commented almost absentmindedly as his gaze trailed to the window. He lifted one of the CDs and shoved it into my CD player.
A loud but joyous sound filled my ears as he began playing the first song.
"This is my favourite song," Elliott told me as he blissfully moved his head back and forth to the music. I laughed at him.
"It's mine too," I responded as I stopped giggling at his moves. Elliott raised an eyebrow at me.
He questioned me, "Really?"
I nodded. Elliott moved to sit on the bed next to me. I felt his eyes burning into the side of my face so I tilted my head to look at him. A pair of stunningly bright green eyes stared back at me. He looked discomforted but this expression faltered as his fingers rolled over mine in the space between us. I didn't dare move. He was watching me still.
"Elliott... You don't mind being against your sister like this?"
"Not at all. I've never been friendly with her. Ever since I was a kid, she had boyfriends and ditched the whole family for them. My parents being gone just makes things even worse," Elliott told me solemnly as his fingers brushed over mine again, this time wrapping around the palm of my hand. We were holding hands and my heart couldn't have beaten any faster.
"I see," I said. "I just didn't want to be in the way."
"You? Never," Elliott laughed and I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or not. It was then that my phone rang. Lifting it to my ear without a second thought, I was stunned when I heard Seth's voice on the other end.
"We need to talk," he almost growled into my ear. Elliott, having heard the voice, shot up beside me and pressed his chin on my shoulder. He looked to me for approval to listen in and once I'd granted it, I replied to Seth.
"You think I have any words for you?" I asked in disbelief, scoffing. "Seth, honestly. You've thrown away practically a lifetime's worth of friendship because my attention wasn't on you. I'm pretty sure you were enjoying screwing Ella Hastings anyway. What happened? Does the football captain have a bigger-"
"Stop," I could almost hear the knife stabbing into Seth's chest over the line. He then chuckled at me mockingly, but it wasn't malicious. I felt a fire being lit in my stomach and just as I was about to yell at him, he spoke. "I just wanted to tell you that I miss you. I feel so awful about it and having gotten myself into the situation, I didn't have the guts to say anything to your face. Sorry."
I hung up instantly. Throwing my phone onto the floor, I turned to Elliott.
"What the hell do I do now?"
