Chapter 10

Luna's POV

I flopped on my bed as I read over Elliott's message. Why did it hurt that I wasn't his first choice? I barely knew him. He'd probably been friends with Logan for years. I wasn't important to Elliott, no matter how much I wanted to be.

What the hell was wrong with me? I pressed my face into my pillows after rolling onto my stomach. Wanting the whole world to just swallow me up and suffocate me, I screamed.

"Are you okay?"

I must've jumped about ten feet off of my bed into the air, because the person instantly retreated. I whipped my body around to face Seth.

"Get out," I ordered. When he didn't get out, I yelled louder, "Get out!"

Seth smirked at me. "It's not gonna be that easy, bitch."

I glared at him. Any resistance from the string of curse words that fell from my mouth had snapped, and I was screaming at him. "I hate you!" I screeched, grabbing his arms and digging my nails into his pale skin, hard. "I hope you rot in hell with that bitch Ella!"

"You're a freak, Luna!" Seth shouted back. His eyes which once looked at me like I was a broken child only showed me hatred and pure fury. There was something else there, I knew it - but Seth hated me now. "You killed Ella's family! You expect her to be nice to you?"

"I didn't kill anyone," I growled. I pushed the edges of my nails into him further. Seth hissed in pain and tried to retreat, but my fingertips scraped across his arms and left a trail of freshly drawn blood. "Leave, Seth."

Seth's eyes softened. I frowned at him in confusion. Seconds ago, he had been looking at me like we were stranded on a desert and I'd drank the last drop of water. Then he was staring down at me like I was a lost puppy. "I'm sorry."

"What the-"

"I'm jealous."

Seth turned, his glance going to the window. I slapped his chest, hard. "You're jealous because I'm friends with someone else?"

"No!" Seth snapped, turning to me and closing his bony fingers around my forearms, pulling them down to my sides. "Don't you get it?"

"No, and if I did I wouldn't be asking!" I spat back, pushing him away from me. Seth advanced towards me and I gingerly stepped back but it was no good. My back hit the wall and Seth's eyes flickered from my gaze to my lips. I knew all too well what was happening. Elliott had once said to me that if this were a story it would be a cliche, in which Seth falls in love with me and I fall in love with Elliott.

He'd hit the nail on the head.

Seth ducked his head down and without even bothering to check if I was alright with it, he pressed his lips to mine. Instantly, I gathered all of the force I had and shoved him off of me. "You're disgusting," I told him.

I saw his eyes flicker with hurt but he wasn't damaged. I was probably more emotionally injured. My ex best friend, the guy I thought I'd always love platonically and who I'd always thought would return the favour, had kissed me after weeks and weeks of not talking to me, after leaving me for a girl who blamed her parents' car crash on me. My world was falling down in front of me; my mother was gone and the only person I had was Elliot, who had chosen a friend over me. He knew I needed him.

Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I kept my eyes on Seth. He eagerly watched me as my phone began to sound the familiar noise of ringing. On the third ring, Elliott picked up.

"What's wrong, Lu?" He asked softly. His voice was so gentle that I didn't even focus on the fact that he'd given me a nickname. I heard a video game being played in the background, presumably by his friend Logan. I felt less bitter about the problem after hearing Elliott's voice. He sounded relaxed and no longer consumed by the pain of his parents' death - not so much, anyway.

"I need you to come pick me up," I sighed. I shifted from foot to foot awkwardly, nervous that I was asking for his help even though I was already relying on him so much. "Your friend, um - I'm sorry. I wanted you to be able to have a good time without me pestering you, but-"

"What's happened, Lu?"

"Seth," I choked out. The tears began to fall down my cheeks and Seth looked at me with sorry chocolate eyes but I shot him a dark look as I shook my head. His gaze went back to the outside world. "He came here. He's here right now. I-"

"I'm coming," Elliott said quickly, cutting me off sharply. "I'm about to go and get in Logan's car, I'm going to drive to you, I'm going to beat the hell out of that bastard, then we're going to come back here-"

"El, no," I pleaded. "You're angry. You shouldn't drive."

Elliott breathed out heavily on the other side of the phone. "Logan?" He called out. I heard another guy's voice reply faintly. "Can you drive me somewhere?"

He finished talking to Logan, and said, "Lu? You there?"

"Yup," I responded quietly as I watched Seth fall asleep on my bed. I felt disgusted by his mere presence, but the fact that he had the nerve to go to sleep in my room frustrated me beyond relief. I wanted to hit him, beat him to death, but I couldn't because I was human.

I still had the tiniest string of hope that he'd return to his normal self. Alas, I realised that how he was acting might've actually been his true self and for years, I could have been deceived by a facade of innocence and kindness.

"Stay on the phone," Elliott ordered me. "I'll talk to you. What do you want to talk about?"
