| Chapter Two |
"Eddie, where are we going?" Iris questioned as her lover drove down the street in the wrong direction. They had just left Donna's Daisies after settling everything for the next work day. Edward, having vamp sped to the shop, drove Iris's car towards their destination.
Edward only smirked to himself, relaxing in the car with one hand on the wheel. He grasped her hand in his free one, rubbing soothing circles on the back of it. He glanced at her briefly with a mischievous glint before setting his gaze back onto the road.
"We're going home," He replied nonchalantly.
"But home is the other way?" Iris was starting to wonder if vampires could get supernatural memory loss. Because it was just that, he wasn't going in the direction of their home.
The gears were starting to grind in her head, especially after they passed the Newton's hardware store. The trees became more frequent as Edward started humming along to Debussy playing on the CD player. Edward could practically feel the scorching glare of Iris on the side of his head, but he remained innocent. He wasn't going to budge and it drove his lover crazy.
When they finally pulled off to the side of the road, where a dirt trail met the cement, Iris had put together where they were. Edward got out of the car without a word, taking out Penelope as Iris watched speechlessly. Huffing to herself, she got out but Edward stopped her before she could go any further.
"Pea, tell mommy to close her eyes," He coaxed in amusement. He knew withholding information from her was making her insane, but that was apart of the fun. Penelope covered her own eyes instead, earning a chuckle from Edward.
"Why do I have to close my eyes, what have you done?" Her eyebrows furrowed, wondering what mess he got himself into now. Edward was a sneaky bugger, and she wouldn't put it past him to do anything strange.
"I'm not saying a word, just close your eyes. I'll guide you," The stubborn ginger didn't move a muscle until she saw the earnest pleading in his golden eyes. She sighed in annoyance, closing her eyes as she let him lead the way.
Edward intertwined their hands, guiding her through the woods towards his surprise. Iris grumbled underneath her breath, but her lover heard all of it, shaking his head at all her curse words. "No cursing around Pea, you'll be sorry if it's her first word."
"Yeah whatever," She childishly stuck her tongue out at him, carefully stepping over anything that might be in her way. Edward halted her movements, letting go of her hand as he stepped in front of her. Iris became anxious, her hand ghosting around to figure out where he was. She could sense his presence close by, his intoxicating scent was still in her personal space.
"Okay... open them." Iris waited a moment, coaching herself to just do as he says. She squeezed her eyes shut before fluttering them open, finding Edward and Penelope smiling nervously in front of her.
When she glanced around him, she swore her heart started up again. Her speckled green and amber colored eyes filled with unshed tears as her mouth made a small 'O'. She brought her shaking hand up, covering her astonished face. "Eddie... you didn't," She whispered.
Before her was Donna's old house. Yet, it wasn't her home at the same time. The chipping and old paint on the paneling was freshened up, now a bright and vibrant white that stood out from the foliage around it. The vines were nicely trimmed, and framed the front porch beautifully. A walk way was made with white stones and there were flower pots littering the whole front yard. Even the windows that were broken from Victoria's ambush were replaced with brand new shutters.
She could see herself living here with Edward and Penelope. Hosting house parties, and marking Penny's height on the wall. Staying in the place Donna truly found herself, meant the world to the ginger. It was like Donna was all around her, watching over her like an angel.
"Well, it wasn't all me. Everyone pitched in... Welcome home," He grinned, loving her reaction more than he ever thought he would. Iris instantly rushed towards them, kissing all over her lovers face in exasperation.
"I love it, I love it so much," Her melodic voice cracked with emotion and Edward melted in her embrace. This is what he wanted, this was his home.
"You haven't seen all of it yet, c'mon." He intertwined their hands again, tugging her happily along. Iris took everything in her gaze not resting on one place for long. When they stepped up the porch and entered the front door, Iris lost her mind.
The house wasn't modern and spacious like the Cullen's home or her parent's house. It was cozy; cream, navy and yellow furniture were huddled together in the living room. Of course a piano sat in the corner, pictures of Edward and her sat on the top along with Penelope's newborn portraits. The seating surrounded a fireplace and a small television as a oak wood coffee table sat in the middle. The wool rug sat upon dark wood floors, matching the throw blanket hanging on the back of the couch. Iris could see herself reading a book to Penelope on the navy armchair as the sun peered through the cream curtains.
Iris ran her hand along the couch as she walked down the hallway, Edward letting her explore the house on her own. She took notice that everything was already baby proofed, prepped and ready for a soon-to-be walking toddler. They thought of everything.
The first door on the right was their own, soft yellows, warm browns and cream was the color theme of the master bedroom. A faux fur rug sat underneath the king sized bed with ivory silk sheets and a plush comforter. The ginger practically screamed when she saw the bathroom. A vintage room adorned in different wickers and a deep stand alone sinker tub.
The other two bedrooms were made as guest rooms, simplistic yet comforting for any unexpected company. Penelope's room had to be her favorite. The walls were covered in different arrangements of flora, all of them were hand painted. Vibrant blues and forest greens were used to resemble the great outdoors right after the perfect storm. What stood out the most was the daisies sitting on her window seal, giving tribute to Donna in the best way possible.
When Iris came back down the hallway, finding the newly painted, yellow kitchen, a giant grin was gracing her trembling lips. This place, for some reason felt more like home than anywhere she ever stayed. It was her. It was Edward. It was their little family rolled into a house.
"Eddie, I absolutely love it," She praised as she looked through the china stocked cabinets. Edward had sat Pea down in her play pin, walking closer to Iris as he pulled a box out of the bread box.
"Could you see us living here?" He stalled, but Iris didn't notice as she gushed over the aprons hanging by the fridge. She excitably put one on, starting to tie it around her back as she turned to finally face him.
"Of course I do, have you seen this place –" Iris stopped mid-sentence, her mouth gaping at the sight of Edward on one knee with a stunning ring in hand. "Eddie..?"
Edward grinned nervously, knowing that if he was human, his hands would be sweating dangerously. He swallowed the lump in his throat, feeling ten times more anxious than he did when he first asked her.
"You deserved a real proposal Riz – so," He cleared his throat, forcing himself to get on with it. "Iris Green or Buchanan, whatever you wish to go by."
Iris laughed lightly at his corny behavior, feeling as though she was walking on air. "I desire to love and cherish you to the end of forever. To argue with you about Ross and Rachel. To laugh with you about dad jokes. To explore the world with you and see first hand, your unexpected reactions. There is no one else in this world, now or ever that is going to top what you've done to me... My love, I love you and I want to do all these things and more, with you as my wife. Iris, will you have me?"
Iris felt choked up as she bit her wobbly bottom lip. She clutched her dark green blouse as if to grasp her unbeating heart. There was nothing Iris was more sure of than Edward Cullen. Her soul called out to him like a siren to a ship full of unsuspecting voyagers. Smitten was far too simplistic a word to describe how bewitched she felt while with him.
So as she stared into his scorching gaze, she couldn't find her voice. Instead, she nodded excitably as she gasped for unneeded air. "Y-yes, I love you so much. Yes." Edward slid the almond shaped diamond ring onto her trembling finger, placing a tender kiss there before standing up.
Iris slipped her hand behind his head, weaving her fingers through his auburn hair as she pulled him down to connect their lips. Edward held her tightly, relishing in enchanting aura. He suddenly lifted her up, spinning the ginger around as she chuckled. Here she was, dressed in ragged clothes with dirt smudges on her jeans and face, and Edward Cullen was looking at her like she was the most beautiful creation in the world.
Their foreheads met in the middle, both of them wearing jubilant expressions lighting their faces. Iris caressed his face, her thumbs smoothing the perfect ridges of his smile.
"We're doing this asap. I want you as my husband, Mr. Masen!" A loud cheer startled them out of their little bubble. However, Edward kept his arm wrapped around her waist.
"Alice, what are you still doing here?" Edward groaned as the immortal pixie skipped in from the back door sheepishly. There was a smile on her face, bigger than Iris's as she waved a large embroidered book in her hands.
"I've been planning your wedding for ten months! Did you think I would let you elope? Who do you take me for?" The back door swung open again to reveal an apologetic Jasper, his smirk contradicting his response. "I tried telling her to wait, sorry guys."
"Oh hush! Now Iris, do you want a white wedding dress, an subtle ivory. Oo, maybe a cream – that'll be nice," Edward groaned obnoxiously as both girls immediately wandered off to the living room, leaving the men in the kitchen to rethink their life decisions.
Jasper patted him on the back, the smirk never leaving his face. "Congratulations, we have twice the amount of Alice now."
