I

|| You, Me and Penny Green ||

| Chapter One |

The morning light peaked through the curtains of Iris's bedroom as she snuggled further in the sheets. The ginger had been awake and functional for a total of seventy-two hours when she started feeling fatigue. Upon further observation, they realized that Iris could sleep after several days of strenuous effort. And when she did sleep, it was only needed for two-three hours. Upon this discovery, Iris was happy she could have some attachments to her humanity back after the change.

So now, the young mother was finishing up that two hour rest with Penelope beside her. The chubby eleventh month old was asleep on her stomach, half of her body slung over her mothers arm with a tiny foot pushed towards her mother's stomach. Iris instinctively wrapped her arm around the little girl, her fingers twirling the strawberry curls as she started to stir.

She lifted her head from the pillow, flickering her gaze around the bed as she frowned. There was no Edward in sight.

A part of her panicked, worried that he had suddenly left again. However, she coaxed herself to calm down. She didn't want to be that clingy lover, wanting to know where he was twenty-four seven. The next second, her sight caught onto a white piece of paper with Edward's perfect scrawl on it.

Went to Donna's Daisies to take care of the shop. Penelope's bottle is in the warmer. P.s you still look absolutely adorable while you sleep. – Eddie.

She grinned at the note, wondering when she had gotten so lucky. Iris hadn't gone to Donna's Daisies for a good amount of time. She couldn't handle seeing the place after Donna had died, and she found it incredibly sweet that Edward was taking care of things for her.

Penelope began to stir, scrunching up her nose as she dug her head into the cushions. Iris watched on, amused as her daughter finally pried her head from the pillows. A slow and sheepish smile lit up her rosy cheeks, warming Iris all over as she kissed her forehead. "Good morning my love, are you hungry?" Penelope made the sign language gesture for milk, opening and closing her fists with her brown eyes squinting. Iris chuckled, nodding her head as she scooped up the little monster in her arms and took her downstairs for the bottle Edward made her.

After Penelope was taken care of, they made their way to Donna's Daisies. Iris was struggling as she flexed her fingers around the wheel. She forced herself to not start crying as memories of her mother figure flashed through her head. She tried to keep the devastating event to the corners of her mind, but she couldn't run from them for long.

She turned onto the side road, parking the car. Iris rested her head on the steering wheel, taking into account that Penelope was in the back seat, babbling to herself. After pulling her trembling figure together, she got them out of the car and walked through the front doors. The overhead bell chimed at her entrance and Edward looked up from the paperwork he was filling out.

Iris adjusted Pea on her hip and pecked her lover on the lips. She swore her heart sung when Penelope did the same as her and Edward leaned down to peck her lips as well. "Hey, sleep well?"

"Mm hm yes, thank you." Edward took Penelope from her as Iris looked over the bills herself. She pushed her hair out of the way, throwing it up into a ponytail as if to prepare herself for the work she was about to do. "What all have you done?"

"Cleaned up some and reorganize. I payed those bills too," Iris gave him an incredulous look, "Don't give me that. My money is your money. You're to be my wife, it's time to share." She bit her bottom lip, swallowing the objection she had on stand by. Instead she pecked his lips in gratitude before eyeing him mischievously.

"You didn't touch my plants did you?" Edward immediately shook his head, raising his free hand in surrender.

"Oh, no. I know my boundaries," She wagged her finger, turning on her heel to leave. As she left, Edward swatted her bum, a cheeky grin gracing his lips, eliciting a yelp of protest from the ginger. She glared at him before going into the greenhouse to tend to her beloved flowers.

Edward sat Penelope on the countertop, giving her a stress ball to play with. She waved it around, showing him the squishy ball like he'd never seen it before. It brought a smile to his face as she squealed and babbled about it. However, the smile turned into a concerned frown when she tried to put it in her mouth. "No, no, we don't eat toys Pea," The new daddy was quick to pull it away from her lips, worried about the germs all over it.

Suddenly, Edward's phone rang. He was quick to snatched it from his jean pocket and put it to his ear expectantly. The familiar sound of his adoptive mother sounded through the line. He glanced to the back door for any sign of Iris before answering, "Hey Esme, is everything ready?"

Esme grinned a mega-watt smile as she appointed her children where to go. She was so glad to be back, although it was Carlisle's idea to leave for their safety. The compassionate immortal missed the ginger and the little bundle of joy. It was like her child was half-way across the country. "Everything is finished, oh I'm so excited! Where are they?"

Edward kept an eye on the back door, aware Iris had enhanced hearing now. He hoped she wouldn't figure out the surprise before he got to show her. He wanted to see the look on her face when she saw it for the first time. Penelope tried to reach for the phone in his hand, so Edward gave her the ball back instead – making sure she didn't put it in her mouth again.

"They're with me. Hey, I'll see you soon and thank you." The sound of Alice squealing in the background almost made him hang up. He rolled his eyes, but grinned nonetheless. She was probably seeing the surprise in action before it happened.

"Good bye dear," He hung up just as Iris walked back in with a curious expression. She had a dirt smudge on her chin with a bandana wrapped around the top of her messy head. Even with her disheveled appearance, he still thought she was absolutely breathtaking.

"What?" Edward tried to make an innocent face, his eyes becoming large.

"Don't what me. You're supposed to get the, 'what'," Iris narrowed her eyes, resting her hands on her hips as they cocked to the side. Edward wasn't fooling anybody, she knew he was up to something. She just didn't know what. Whatever it was, Esme was involved and she knew the woman was a hopeless romantic.

"Are you ready to go?" He quickly changed the subject, hearing her clever thoughts. Iris scrutinized him for a moment long before deciding to bring it up later. She sighed, rubbing her dirty hands on a nearby dish rag. The ginger did all she could do with the plants for the moment. New ones were planted and the pre-existing ones were trimmed down. She didn't want to admit it, but she shed a few tears while gardening, a dark blue eyed Elder coming to mind.

"Yeah, I did all I could do. Let's go home," Edward smirked at her choice of words, but she didn't notice as he lead her out the front door, locking it behind them. Iris was in for a hell-of-a surprise, and he couldn't contain himself.

"Let's go home," He echoed with a smile.
