Chapter 8

A few moments later, Nicola slowly opened her eyes and looked up at Jack. He was half asleep with evidence that tears had streamed down his cheeks while he waited for her to awake. He looked so peaceful, she almost didn't want to wake him.

"Jack!" She tried to yell, only able to raise her voice a bit before it cracked. Jack moved a bit before opening his eyes fully and looks down at Nicola.

"Hey Screacher... you're awake...." A smile appeared on his face as he woke up. Nicola rolled her eyes in response to Jack's comment, she didn't understand why he kept calling her screacher.

"Where's Steve?" Nicola asked as she tried to look around but her gaze ended up looking into Jack's eyes.

"I'm sorry Princess-" Jack began before he was interrupted by Nicola.

"N-No!" She cried, pushing away from Jack and crawled over to the black body bag that contained the boy. "H-He can't be!" She ripped open the bag and pulled Steve out, she held his limp body in her arms as she leaned against the wall - that he was thrown against many times - for support.

Jack could only stand and watch as Nicola held the body like a baby in her lap. Tears streamed down her face as she ran her fingers through his blood stained orange hair. She pulled him closer to her chest before she pressed her lips against his forehead to his him.

From where he stood, Jack could see that Nicola was shaking as she held the body, she was no longer the strong female leader he knew her to be, in this state she was vulnerable. He wouldn't let her get hurt, in his mind, Jack promised to protect the princess at all costs so that she doesn't end up in the vulnerable state again.

"It's time to go." Jack said quietly and calmly hoping that the princess would abide.

"N-No! I-I can't leave him!" She whimpered looking up at Jack. Jack sighed, he knew he couldn't persuade the princess' mind if it had already been made up. Jack was about to leave before Amar walked into the room.

"Is this man bothering you Princess? I can make him leave." Amar snickered a bit. Though he was unaware of Jack's knowledge of what he did earlier.

Timeskip to earlier in the alleyway next to the warehouse.

Jack followed the thing that caught his eye, down a fairly dark alley way. It was perfect for him to spy in as he perched himself behind a few trash bins. What he saw next he would never be able to unsee again.

Amar walked over to a door on the side of the warehouse building and knocked three times before taking a step back. The door opened and the secretary stepped out and grinned at the sight of the king's royal advisor.

"Hey gorgeous, got the money?" She asked as she leaned against the door frame. It was an obvious attempt to flirt with Amar.

"He better do a good job with her. Or else I want my money back!" Amar demanded rejecting any signs of flirting that came his way.

"You know Master. He doesn't take anyone prisoner. He'll surely dispose of your princess and crush her like she did your heart!" Upon hearing this, he knew that he had to find Nicola quickly. He quietly and quickly backed out and ran off while remaining unnoticed by the two.

Timeskip back to the present time in the story.

"No. He's fine. But can you please leave us Amar?" Nicola asked her father's advisor softly. This somehow made him angry as he raged.

"Why is he allowed to stay but I have to leave!?! I've known you way longer than this- American Boy!" Amar yelled, doing his best to insult Jack.

"Because I didn't try to kill her!" Jack glared at Amar as he began to ball up his fists. Amar's eyes twitched before glaring back at Jack.

"How do you know about that?!?" Amar growled as he balled up his fists as well.

"I was hiding in the shadows!" Jack prepared himself for the fight.

"You were spying on me!" Amar thrusted his fist forward to punch Jack, but Jack countered with his own fist.

The two males then began to fight in front of the princess. To Nicola, the fighting seemed pointless. But to the two males, it would declare once and for all who the princess would be mated with. After watching the two beating each other up, Nicola finally got the strength to get up and walk over to them.

"Stop this right now!" She would yell as she forced herself in between the two and outstretched her arms, pressing her palms against the males' chests. Both knew in their heart that they didn't want to hurt her while fighting the other, so silently the both agreed to stop their fighting. The two men stepped back and stared down at the ground. Silence flooded the room until the creak of the door opening broke it.

"Amar. Is what Jack said true?" King Aagney stood in the doorway looking sternly at his advisor.

"Yes. But-" Amar began but was unable to finish as two officers walked in and forced his arms behind his back as they hand cuffed him.

"Amar. You are under arrest for treason to Istania." Aagney glared at the male as the officers dragged him out of the building.

"Dad!" Nicola stumbled as she ran to her father and hugged him tightly.

"Are you alright?" The king asked his daughter. Though without speaking, Nicola replied by nodding her head. This made the king smile. He then looked at Jack before saying: "Thank you."

Jack did not want to reject the king's statement, so he quickly replied. "You're welcome, sir." Though he was unclear as to why Aagney had thanked him.

"We shall have a funeral for the boy tomorrow." Aagney looked down at Nicola to make sure she was content. "But for now, we shall relax and sleep the night away. Understood?"

"Yes." Both Nicola and Jack replied in unison. The three would then head back to the palace, where Nicola and Aagney would go to their separate rooms and then Jack would accompany one of the spare bedrooms.

Soon the only sound echoing through the palace would be the sweet sounds of soft snoring as the royals (and Jack) drifted off to sleep.
