24. I am going to make Justin so jealous.
Emily's POV
"Some infinities are bigger than other infinities." I hold back a sob. I cant even hear the rest of the dialogues.
"Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world." She holds back a sob as tears stream down her face. God damn it Hazel Grace! Why does this scene always make me cry? I have seen this movie a thousand times, yet, every time this particular scene shows up, I loose my shit.
I turn the movie off and lay my head back on the seat. I close my eyes and take a deep calming breath. To my left, aunt Tess is sleeping soundly with a blanket around her. I look around the dark cabin to see everyone sleeping besides me ad a five-year-old boy sitting diagonally ahead of me.
Having a flight attendant as your aunt can be very useful, for example getting first class seats on a short notice. We are headed back to home after our two and a half week long vacation from France and Italy. It was so fun. We visited the Eiffel tower, Notre Damne Cathedral and the gardens of Versailles. Italy was fun too, Saint Peter's Basilica and the world famous Coliseum. Every place was majestic, amazing and deeply rich in history. Even the food was good and I am proud to say that I actually craved for some ravioli when we boarded the airplane.
We went to the Louvre in Paris and the Vatican museums where I saw all the famous artifacts that I had seen in my textbooks and heard of during my classes with Mr. Harrington. It was a dream come true for a history lover like me. It was so beautiful and magical.
I am going to make Justin so jealous.
I never wanted to comeback from that place but we had to, eventually. Tessa had to get back to work whereas I had to get back to Luke, um I mean college. Damn I am getting way too affected by him. But, oh, how I missed him during the vacation. He would always call whenever he could, without caring how expensive international calls are. I would update him of where I am going or what monument we were visiting, we couldn't talk much because of the different time zones but we still texted, a lot, like clockwork.
Spring break will be over after a week which means Luke and I have been together for two months and I enjoyed every moment of it. Not once did I feel sad. I was happy all along and had a smile on my face everyday. I have even started to get my confidence back. I feel more used to my body and at times, I even like how I look. Luke is helping me restore my lost confidence and I will be forever grateful to him for that. God, I love him, so much.
Its like digging a well. You dig and find something at every milestone. After digging a few meters, you find kindness. Then you dig again for sometime and find passion, selflessness, fun, sincerity, respect, charm, beauty, devotion, dignity, hope, happiness and when you finally dig deep enough, you find love.
That's what I have been doing since I met Luke, digging an imaginary well of emotions that he makes me feel. I dug out everything; kindness, compassion, fun, hope, beauty, everything and I have finally dug out love.
Its so overwhelming, the affect, the power he has over me just drives me insane. I just hope I haven't dug too deep that I can't climb out of it.
I shake my head to clear up my mind and a small smile tugs on my lips at the thought of seeing Luke in some hours. I get out of my huge bed like seat and walk to the small bathroom trying to be as quiet as possible and not wake anybody else up. I don't know how people fall asleep on a plane so easily. I cant even close my eyes for some reason. Oh, god I am going to be so tired when we arrive and given that this is a thirteen-hour flight, there will be terrible jet lag waiting for me at the arrival.
I see that the bathroom is occupied so I wait outside for the person to come out. I hug myself tightly and shiver a little. Why do airplanes have to so cold inside? I wait in the narrow cramped up space wondering what's taking the person inside so long.
I look around the dark cabin when the door suddenly opens. Due to the sudden and fast movement, its edge presses into my skin, rather deeply, I might add. I immediately pull back to see a long deep gash on the left wrist. Blood pools out of the cut but not so fast, indicating that I didn't cut any vein. I hiss a little at the stinging sensation when a small voice speaks.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you." I look down to the same five-year-old looking at my wrist in horror and guilt. His jet black hair was a mess and he had these sparky green eyes that made him look cute.
"Hey, its okay, just a little cut, not your fault, okay? What's your name?" I smile at him. His bright green eyes meet mine and he lets out a sigh of relief, probably realizing that I wont go complaining to his mom or dad about the cut.
"Zac." He replies in a small voice.
"My name is Emily. You can't sleep too?" I ask him.
"No, I get to see all the cool movies on the screen continuously without dad even knowing about it!" he exclaims with a happy and excited gleam in his eyes. I put a finger on my lips to make him lower his voice and he immediately mutters a quick 'sorry'.
"Really? I like watching movies too! What movies do you like?" I ask him with a smile on my face.
"Spiderman! He is so cool! He just swings and jumps around buildings and then this web thing just comes out from his wrist like WHOOOSH!" he says animatedly making all kinds of hand movements to get his point across. Gosh, he is so cute!
"I like superheroes too! My favourite is Ironman but Spiderman is super cool as well!" I smile widely at him. Anyone who likes Marvel will instantly become my best friend. Suddenly my wrist sting sharply and I look down at the cut, its still bleeding. Wow, I was too busy talking with this ball of cuteness that I forgot I had to use the bathroom.
"Okay, I better clean this up." I say examining my cut. "It was nice to meet you, Zac!" I say to him, ruffling his hair a little.
"It was nice to meet you too!" he smiles widely and jogs back to his seat.
I enter the bathroom and get down to business. After relieving myself, I wash my hands and then clean the cut. Even though I didn't cut a vein, it's still pretty deep. I apply some pressure to help stop the bleeding. I bite my lip when I feel pain but it's not severe. After a few moments, the bleeding stops and a red line remains on my skin.
I don't find any Band-Aid anywhere so I let it be.
I look at my reflection in the mirror. Earlier, I used to cringe when I looked at myself but now; there is a tiny smile on my face. I brush back my hair and redo my ponytail. In France, Tessa wanted to get her hair dyed when she saw a girl who had bright pink dip-dyed hair. So, we went to a parlor and she started to encourage me to get it done too. I declined her many times because I didn't want to colour my hair. She said I didn't have to get it done in a large amount, that I could get only a small section or strip of hair dyed.
After many minutes of thinking about it, I agreed. So now, there was a strip of blue hair on the right side of my head. It wasn't too broad or too narrow and the blue wasn't bright like Kylie Jenner once had. It was a dark blueberry blue and it actually suits me.
Huh. I bet Kylie Jenner sported more hair colours than the number of cookies I've ate in my life.
After splashing some water on my face, I return back to my seat.
I recline my seat further backwards than it already was to support my back. I pull up my knees to my chest and wrap the blanket around me so that my whole body is covered leaving only my face outside. I check how much time we have until we land in the TV screen. Five hours. Uggh, I hate long flights.
I find some other movie to watch. After browsing through the list of movies available, I settle upon 'Project Almanac'. Resting my head back and snuggling deeper into my blanket, I press play and start watching.

"AHHH LAND! FINALLY!" I exclaim as soon as we get off the airplane.
"Calm down, Emily." Aunt Tessa chuckles. I laugh along with her and we make our way to the baggage claim. It takes us about half an hour to collect our luggage and exit the airport.
"You sure you don't want to come home first?" Tessie asks as we deposit our suitcases in the trunk of her car that we had left at the employee parking area. Another perk of being a flight attendant, you get free parking.
"No, I'll be fine. Besides, you'll just come back here two hours later." I say. I was disappointed when Tessa told me she has a flight to day. I mean, she just got back from a holiday, can't she get just some time to rest. However, she assured me that she will be fine so I let it slide.
"Okay then, see you tomorrow!" she says getting in the car.
"Okay, bye." Tessa is taking our luggage home which I will comeback to collect tomorrow. Since we were a little late to catch our flight back home, we just threw our clothes randomly in the suitcases, which resulted in our clothes mixing up. So tomorrow, I'll comeback to sort out my clothes and also to spend some time with her.
I only had some money and my mobile with me. I hollered a cab to take me to the campus. The whole ride, I couldn't sit still because of the giddiness to see Luke. Luke isn't even expecting me today. He thinks I am coming back three days later and that I am still in France. He doesn't know I told him the wrong date of my arrival. Yesterday, when we were leaving for the airport, I had asked him on the phone about his plans for today without sounding too suspicious, he told me that he is just staying in and having a lazy day.
Oh god, how awesome his reaction would be.
We finally arrive and I pay the cab driver, climbing out from the car. I make my way towards the dorm. Since spring break is still going on, there aren't many people around and it is nice and quiet everywhere. After a few minutes, I find myself standing in front of my room unable to suppress my grin. Our flight was pretty early so its only seven in the morning right now but knowing that Luke rises early; I don't have to worry about him being asleep.
I knock on the door twice and step back a little.
"Who is it?" comes his voice. I don't reply and stay rooted to my spot. A couple of minutes pass and nothing happens. I knock again on the door and step back.
"Who the fuck is it?" I don't reply but knock on the door again. I keep knocking until the door flies open. In the next two seconds, I see numerous expressions on his face. First irritation, then shock, then confusion and finally happiness as I jump on him.
He holds me tightly, nuzzling his face in my neck and mine in his; I take in his familiar scent and close my eyes. Man, I missed this so much. A content sigh escapes my lips and we both stand there, hugging tightly, with no intention of pulling apart anytime soon.
He squeezes me as if clarifying that I am really here and not a hologram. Warmth spreads through me as I hug him more tightly not wanting to let go. With me still in his arms, he leads us to the door. Shutting it close he slams me to it and within seconds, his lips are on mine.
His lips move roughly against mine but he also shows his passion and gentleness. I kiss back with the same need, putting everything I have got. His hands hold me waist tightly, in a possessive hold as if someone will take me away. He licks my bottom lip, nudging, asking for permission which I more than willingly grant him. We battle for dominance, our tongues clashing like swords but he wins.
He takes his sweet time exploring, devouring every inch of my mouth. My mind is going haywire as I tighten my hold around his neck, tugging his hair lightly. A groan comes from the back of his throat, causing a shiver to run through my body. I feel lightheaded a couple of seconds later, causing me to pull out from the kiss.
Luke rests his head on mine, both of us breathing heavily. His lips are swollen, bee stung in fact and I am pretty sure mine are too.
"You're back." He says in a raspy voice.
"Surprise!" I exclaim quietly, a small smile creeping onto my face identical to his. He chuckles deeply as he pecks my lips again.
"I missed you." He says, holding my face in his hand as he thumb graced my cheek.
"I missed you too." He sighs happily and we stand in each other's company, letting it all in. our peaceful silence is broken when I yawn suddenly.
A wave of tiredness hits me hard. Great. Jet lag is finally catching up to me. I close my eyes as I hear Luke chuckle.
"Lets restore your sleep, shall we?" he says smirking. I nod and walk towards the bed. Luke throws his t-shirt and pajamas on my head. "Were those, you'll be more comfortable in them."
I walk into the bathroom slowly and change into the provided clothes. I walk out and collapse onto the bed nearest to me. A couple of minutes later, the bed dips and I sense the familiar warmth behind me. I turn around and lazily look up at Luke who is smiling down at me.
"I like your hair." He says, twirling the blue strip of my hair between his fingers. I smile tiredly as another yawn escapes my lips.
"You should seriously get some sleep." He chuckles wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me close to his chest. "Goodnight princess." Well that's a first; he usually calls me 'pumpkin'. I smile nevertheless as a wave of nostalgia hits me.
Goodnight princess. My dad used to say the exact same thing every night when I was little and used to tuck me in. He would read a story to me sometimes or casually lay with me until I fell asleep. He would kiss my forehead or my cheek loving and always ruffle my hair before leaving. Not to forget the numerous nights of us playing the guitar and singing until our throats hurt.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Luke asks me, bringing me back to reality. I look at him and blink a couple of times to realize my eyes were getting teary. I smile at him and quickly wipe my eyes. I tuck myself closer to him, nuzzling my head into his neck and grip his shirt in my hands.
"Emily?" he asks again in a worried tone as his grip tightens around me. He looks at me with a concerned expression, our faces just mere centimeters apart.
"Its nothing, I just miss mum and dad." I say closing my eyes. I open them again to see him giving me a sympathetic smile. He presses a lingering kiss on my forehead. He doesn't say anything and I don't want him to either. I smile back at him and drift off to sleep.
I wake up to the voice of Luke talking to someone on the phone. I sit up, feeling a little disoriented. I look at the small bedside clock to see that its already one in the afternoon. Luke hangs up a couple of minutes later and turns around to look at me.
"You're awake." He states. "I was just heading to the cafeteria to get lunch." I nod at him and he ruffles my hair before leaving.
I walk to the bathroom to take a bath and freshen up. I brush my teeth, take a nice warm shower and shampoo my hair. I dress in simple yoga pants and a loose t-shirt and leave my hair to dry out. I walk out of the bathroom and plop down on the bed again. I give out a long yawn and rub my eyes.
This is the worst part of a jet lag. No matter how much you sleep, you still feel tired when you wake up. I lay on the bed doing nothing. I think I might just fall sleep again. My eyes start drooping again when the door opens. Luke comes in with a bag in his hands.
We both eat while talking about what all we did during the break. Well he talks, I listen. I just don't posses the ability to talk or do anything when I feel so tired. When I eat whatever amount of food that suffices me, I lay down again, letting out another yawn.
"You're still tired, sleepyhead?" Luke asks in a playful tone.
"Very tired." I reply closing my eyes. He clears off the wrappers of our food and joins me on the bed.
"Well, it is lazy day, so how about another nap?"
"Perfect." I reply subconsciously. And within minutes, I fall asleep. Again.
The next time I wake up, I feel energized, fresh, and a lot better. I see Luke fiddling on his mobile while one of his hands is around me.
"Hey." I say groggily.
"Hey." He replies, closing his mobile and turning towards me with a smile.
"How long was I asleep?" I ask, sitting up and looking around.
"Pretty long, its already six in the evening." That long? Okay...
"I am gonna go to the bathroom to freshen up." I say, getting up and walking to the bathroom. After splashing some cold water on my face and fixing my hair, I walk out again.
"So, how was everyone when I was gone? Did Justin come back from his visit to his parents?"
"Nah, Justin is still with his parents, so is Alex." He replies non-chahlantly.
"What about Cole and Alice? How are they?" I ask. He immediately freezes.
"Uhh you see...interesting story actually." He begins nervously.
Okay, something is very wrong. Its rare to hear that something out of the usual is going on with Alice and Cole. They are literally the perfect couple and always happy, it's shocking to see Luke getting nervous about it.
"Enlighten me." I say.
"Well...they uhh...she did...he said...man this is difficult." He sighs.
This is gonna be good.
