He Loves You

Standing there with your hand gently combing through his hair, you wait for his reply. Your mind drifts quickly back to when you first met Yoongi. It was a fan sign; he was so cute with the little red devil horns on his head and the little pitchfork in his hand, getting the side eye standing there stabbing Jimin. You think that was the day you started falling for him as you snap away picture after picture.

Working at his company as the group's freelance photographer gave you privileges that company photographers didn't have. Following them everywhere, recording and taking pictures, you became close with the members.

Andy doesn't answer your question if he is ready for bed immediately. His mind is processing the events of tonight, those that did happen, and those that should have but didn't.

He doesn't understand why Yoongi left. When they talked the other day, this was to be the night. He liked Yoongi from the moment he met him, just from seeing the smile on your face when you talked about him and how your face seemed to glow whenever he was over. You and Yoongi were friends before starting to date casually. He was excited that a man he admired was falling in love with his sister. There must have been a good reason he left like he did.

You ask him again, "Are you ready for bed now?" The movie's ending credits are scrolling on the screen.

He nods and pushes the lever on his wheelchair, causing it to turn. You move, making sure your feet don't get run over. You're used to dancing with the wheelchair to avoid injury. It has become second nature to you.

He smiles at you before typing on his speaking pad. "He loves you."

You almost burst out in tears. "No, he doesn't, Munchkin."

Your brother, Andy, was born with brittle bones, and his body never grew bigger than a three-year-old.

Munchkin is his favorite pet name that you call him because he loved the Lilliputians from The Wizard of Oz. Whenever he watched it, he would always sing 'The Lollipop Guild,' and he still treasures the Lollipop Guild Membership card you made for him when he was just a kid.

He types with his fragile fingers on the soft keypad. "He kiss you. I saw."

You lower your head and pull over a chair to sit beside him. You lean your head gently on his shoulder. "He did kiss me, but I don't know if he really wanted to." A kiss doesn't always mean love.

"That's crazy. He kiss you first."

You lift your face, eyes misty with unshed tears. "Yes, he did. But I don't know why." Tears start to slip over your lashes onto your cheeks.

"No cry, sis."

You wipe your eyes and lean your head back on his shoulder. "I won't cry."

"I love you, sis."

"I love you too, Munchkin."

"Bed now good."

You see him yawn and smile. "Okay, did you want to shower before bed or in the morning?"

"Morning"

"Okay, let's go."

He shifts the control stick on his electric wheelchair and follows you to his room. You pass through the widened doorway, cutting on the light. You enter the bathroom, switch on the light from the lowered switch, and get his brush, toothpaste, and two cups of water ready for him.

He rolls up to the sink and taps a preset button. "Thank you."

You ruffle his dark, thick hair. "Any time. Let me know when you are done in here, and I will help you into bed."

He has already started brushing his teeth. He saw the hurt in your eyes and the tears and wanted to try to make you laugh. So, on the spur of the moment, he worked his toothpaste into a foamy mess in his mouth and lips.

"I have rabies. I bite you," he says with a gurgled growl and a strong scent of peppermint breath, very threatening indeed. You can't help but giggle.

"Oh no, you don't. I have Hobi water." You pick up the skin refreshing mister Yoongi's friend Hobi gave him for his birthday last year and aim for him. He puts up his hands in surrender, toothbrush held between foamy white lips. He laughs as you leave the bathroom.

You have been caring for your younger brother practically since he was born. The doctors said he wouldn't live longer than 3 days. Next week, you will be celebrating his twenty-first birthday. He is so excited that the guys, Yoongi and his bandmates, plan on taking him out to celebrate.

Your mother passed away from complications of birth. Your father, blaming Andy for his wife's death and disappointed to have, in his words, 'a freak for a son' began drinking. At least he stayed around long enough for you to come of age to legally care for your brother.

Your father's drinking only escalated over the years as he turned to alcohol as a source of comfort. It was an addiction he didn't want help with. Now, he is serving time in jail for killing a man in a drunken fight at his favorite bar.

After helping your brother to bed, you kiss him on the forehead before leaving his room.

He always keeps his phone near him, and you see the faint light from the screen on the walls as you cut off the bedroom light and close his door.

You're not tired, but your heart feels heavy. Entering your bedroom, you feel your phone vibrate in your pocket.

You take it out and swipe the screen, and there is a message from your brother. "He loves you!"

You don't reply, but drop the phone on the dresser and get ready for bed.

That night, as you lie in bed, all you could do was think about the kiss. He has kissed you before, a quick peck on the lips or a kiss on the cheek. But tonight was different. There was a charge in the air when he pulled you out of sight of your brother watching television to kiss you.

A/N Throughout this story, the female lead's, Brother Andy, uses a word pad to talk. Sometimes, he will verbally speak but finds it easier to sing. But he mainly uses the soft keyboard on his wheelchair to speak for him. It has some preset buttons for phrases or words that are used frequently. His conversations will be stilted. What he says is done with as few words to type as possible. These are not grammar errors but are done deliberately due to his method of speaking/communicating.
