"They're not just brown eyes, they are his brown eyes."

It's been days since the accident happened. And, none blamed avni. Avni had been helping neil from the very moment. She had been his personal assistant; getting food, helping him to walk, yadda yadda. And, one more thing Sunehri and avni shifted to Neil's house along with Dd and Ali, just because when neil needs a person and what if they aren't any?

And now, she is bored. Neil had recovered sooner than expected because of the support he received. Since everyone are due with their assignments, they are caught in completing it. Whereas, avni bing avni had finished it very much earlier.

Avni sighed and glanced at the baby in front of her. Siya. She became Avni's world in a very lil time. And, the strange thing was, she didn't even have to make an effort for it. Afterall she is her lil fireball's sister.

Siya and avni had been playing from what seemed like hours. Avni smiled at siya, as she picked up a book and headed towards avni. Gave a big grin and hopped onto Avni's lap. Avni chuckled and started reading the book.

They were taking turns. Once, avni will be the one reading book. the next, it was siya; with her cute muffled voice.

Bless her soul, thought avni.

Avni was glancing all over the room when a particular photo frame came to her notice. It was Neav. The lil guy who had been studying in the boarding school. Who is very brave indeed. She remembered neil smiling brightly and said "Neav should be coming home in a month or two. His summer holidays are gonna begin soon. I cant wait to see him, all grown up." he said with tears glistening in his eyes.

Looking at neil, she saw a lil pain flashing through those raw brown eyes. She knew he had no choice to keep him at the boarding school. And, this was the one thing, he would regret his whole lifetime. Missing Neav's childhood. But, siya needed him, the more. So, practically he was tied. he had no other choice. 

And, she would help him, no matter what. They all are gonna be, here with him.

Avni didn't realize she was dozing off along with siya on her torso. Eventually, they both shifted into a deep slumber.

Writing assignment is tougher than one usually thinks. Finding the right answer for every question, understanding it and then scribbling it down, is something. Don't you think?

Neil groaned and lifted his head, after the two long hours of the hard work, he did it. He completed the assignment and that too without anyone's help. 

He took a deep breath and glanced sideways. He saw Dd and sunehri working on the assignment together. 

Keyword together. That itself means he is piling up various puns on sunehri making her blush like a beetroot.

And Ali, on either side. Who was busy more on his mobile rather on the assignment. He shook his head and smiled looking at the people now he calls family.

Wait a sec, there was a person missing. Where was she, he thought. 

Packing up his books silently, he gathered them and tried to shove it in his bag when a piece of paper fell down. Knowing very well what it is, he just smiled in contentment. 

As they had gone to college, he received two to three notes from his You know who! And, that motivated him a lot. 

First note - 

Love, 

It's been days since I've written a note. I am sorry for that. I heard that you had an accident? How can you be so irresponsible neil? What the hell are you thinking about yourself, eh? And, that too for some girl in distress. It's not funny you know? You had me worried sick, baba. And, please take rest and sleep. You need them. Don't worry about the notes, we can find an alternative. Isn't it funny? How the college's bad boy is worried about his attendance and notes. Kidding, sorry. I know you have to work hard and that is the thing i love the most about you. You are the best brother, sweetheart. Never think otherwise. Chalo, take care and get well soonish.

Mia Amor, 

 You are the strongest person, i know. You know why? You always think about others. You often keep them before you. And, you often forget yourself in between. But, no don't you worry. I will be here to make you remember that, you deserve all the happiness too. Whatever, the problem is you will figure it out, sooner or later my love. Don't ever lose your hope. Things are gonna get better. I promise, think of an alternative. Like, tuitions to kids? Or even a part-time job, sweetheart. Remember, I love you. And, this shall pass too.

YOU KNOW WHO!

After reading the second letter, he was awestruck at her knowledge of him. That morning itself, he got a call from neav. That lil kid was very excited to be home in his holidays. And, after the holidays, his next grade. he needed money for that. He had no absolute idea of how his mystery girl, knew about it? But, those words felt good. It felt like a reassurance. 

Thinking about his you know who, he headed to siyas room. Entering the room he saw the most cutest scene. His heart warmed at that making him smile instantly. He secretly saw behind if anyone followed him; when he saw the coast was clear, he took his mobile and captured it. 

Looking at avni, it seemed she was awfully familiar to his mystery girl. In the whole college, no one has that audacity to leave notes that too him. Neither any other person was as cheerful or mother India as avni. Not only that, but the way they both talk or write also seems familiar. He never saw avni;s handwriting agreed. But, he had this instinct or a hunch. And, he so wishes it was true.

His growing feelings towards avni will only help if she reciprocates to him. And, something in him says that she cares more than she usually shows. And, the other thing was, the other day when neil got a letter they were together. So, dd suddenly questioned what was the letter about. ANd, that was the first time he saw avni squirming in discomfort. She only calmed a bit when the topic was changed. 

Neil chuckled remembering her face. It was like she was about to faint. His daily ongoing was practically started with the notes, agreed. But, this woman over here lit up something he never felt before. The feeling he actually forgot. 

He so wished avni is you know who. And you know who is avni. Both played a major role in his life. His Mystery girl never came face-to-face. But, those words. Damn! Those words were enough to stir something.

He so hoped both of them are actually the same.

Smiling at the two most cutest woman. Once, to whom he had recently grown fond too. And the other stole his heart, the second she was born, he smiled and thanked God for everything in his life. 

He breathed in tranquility, raised his hand to ruffle his lil munchkins hair. Siya just smiled in a response making neil chuckle lowly. His hand raised further to Avni's face and picked up the hair that fell on her face and tucked it behind.

He was admiring them and all of a sudden, there was a scream. Neil fell backward in fright of sudden noise and as the support, he clutched the first thing he felt. 

Avni woke up startled. She didn't know is it because of the scream or the sudden touch of a hand. The hand clutched hers as if it was asking for help. She immediately pulled the hand without a second thought. Her body reacted even without her knowledge. However, she instinctively tightened the hold of another hand on siya. 

Opening her eyes, the first thing she saw was brown orbs. His brown eyes! Oh, how she loved to watch those orbs. The eyes that hide myriad of emotions. The thought itself made her smile. As she was drowned in his eyes, surprisingly neil was ogling her eyes too.

But, to their bad luck, they heard the footsteps rather very loudly as if someone is telling them to please be civil. 

Dd, of course! they thought and pulled away. Neil immediately left her hand and took siya from her as he helped her get up and saw the three entities who stood before them.

Dd chuckled and said. "Oh, thank god you guys are civil. Or else? Oh no, My poor eyes!" he exaggerated making neil scowl.

"Oh, shut up, Dd"

"But, on a serious note, what were you both doing?" Asked Ali.

"Siya and i dozed off, actually." avni added sheepishly.

"Every time!" muttered Ali.

"In that case, neil what were you doing? Staring at her like a lost long lover, while she is sleeping, eh?" teased Ali making neil go scarlet.

Avni opened her mouth staring at neil who was now a shade of red. "Yo-you are blushing?" asked avni not believing what she was visualizing.

Neil sighed and turned into a darker shade of red. He took a moment to compose himself, glanced at avni the most ice-cold look and left passing their friends, leaving her confused.

Dd, Ali, and sunehri who saw this didn't know what to assume. However, Dd smiled and reached where avni was and placed his hand over her shoulders and said: "How was your nap, cutie?"

Avni chuckled at his pathetic trying of conversation to make her smile and said "It was very refreshing. You should try once."

Dd tried asking her different questions. Sunehri engaged her in something and even Ali was blabbering. They all were in a way protecting her from thinking about what was wrong with neil. Why did he give that infamous glare, he used to give everyone in the college to her. Did she do, something wrong? But, avni being avni, had already started her overthinking the moment neil left.

She just hoped everything was okay. He was okay.

A little later, everyone was having dinner along with neil. Avni couldn't bear that look again, so she was avoiding eye contact with him. She was watching his every move with the corner of her eye, though.

"Okay okay, listen to this." urged Dd.

"What do you call an alligator in a vest?" he asked enthusiastically.

Avni smiled instantly and asked him to tell the answer.

"An Investigator!" he said and burst into a fit of laughter.

Ali groaned glaring at Dd. "Seriously, Dd. Like, seriously?" he smacked his head and turned to the girls who were now giggling. "Stop laughing, now. Only because of you guys, he is like this. Do not encourage him."

Avni stuck out her tongue at him and smiled at Dd. 

"One more, one more?" Dd pleased.

Neil glanced up and said "One Last one."

Dd grinned widely. "What has eyes but cannot see?"

Neil scoffed leaving the dining hall to clean the plate. Ali followed him leaving the girls and Dd behind.

Avni shook her head. "Go on, answer it." she winked at him urging him to continue.

Dd smiled. "A potato."

Avni chuckled loudly, making sunehri smile. The three entities smiled and headed to clean their plates. There, she tried so hard to avoid neil and leave as soon as she can.

She was the last one to leave the kitchen after cleaning everything. She was about to go to her room when she heard someone follow her.

"Avni, it's me." she heard a voice behind her. His breath on her neck. She shivered because of the proximity and turned around to look at him.

"Ye-yes" she replied hoarsely.

Neil smiled at the effect he has on her and put his hands in his pocket and grabbed something.

"Give me your hand," he asked bluntly.

Avni furrowed her eyebrows and looked up at him. He nodded in a yes and asked again. "Give me, avni. I am not going to eat it. I am already full."

It was not Avni's turn to blush and confusedly gave him her hand. 

He smiled widely and placed something on her hand and clutched her hand again for the second time this day. 

"This is for you. Your favorite chocolate," he added.

Avni glanced at her hand and smiled widely looking at a fine piece of Hershey chocolate. Her favorite. 

She looked at him gratefully and was about to open her mouth when he hugged her. She was paralyzed in his arms at first and as seconds passed she hugged him back.

After minutes, he pulled away gave a bright smile and left, leaving her all giddy and flustered.
