Damien sighed as he got his things together. He wasn't allowed to go home, not today. He was going to his cousin's place in the next state over.

He hated everything, it was all a blur. His parents checked him out of the hospital. Damien definitely didn't miss the looks he got from his father. Nor did he miss the snide remarks while his mother couldn't hear.

"Useless fag."

"You'll never carry the family name."

"I don't know why you were even born."

"Maybe I should've named you Janice. Then I'd be proud that you like boys."

"Idiot."

"Homo."

"Deformed faggot, you should've died."

Damien winced as he remembered the last one, his hand going up to his scarred face. He was nothing but a deformed, useless person. No wonder Patton wouldn't believe him.

Message after message. Call after call. All for nothing. Patton wouldn't answer him, Damien was getting scared now. He really wanted to be sure his boyfri- no, not that. Not anymore. He needed to be sure his best friend was ok.

But he couldn't do that, not anymore. Patton never answered, never responded to anything.

Damien didn't have Patton's momma's number or he'd call her. No, right then, all he had was their old messages. The 'i love you's and the 'i miss you's. All those times they'd stay up late, chatting away until the sun rose up.

He didn't want to deal with any of this anymore. Damien was terrified, but he couldn't stop thinking about Patton.

He hadn't talked in days. He barely slept, barely ate. His mother equated it to pain. But Caligula knew, he knew he'd finally broken his son.

Caligula was happy with that, too. He was proud of himself. Now he could fix him, make him normal again. He had his work cut out for him. But he knew that, someday, Damien would be the perfect, straight, normal son he wanted to have.
