Harry POV

This is driving me nuts.

All I can smell is Louis. And it's the best fucking smell ever.

I've NEVER been this affected by an omega in heat before. We have all been in the same house as Niall in heat and I was able to handle that ok.. apart from being extra horny.. but hey it's instinct.

The moment on the beach before.. I could smell  the exact moment his heat kicked in and I've been in this haze ever since. When Niall cam back from the shops I could tell when he opened the door to Louis' room and it took all my control to not get up from the couch and follow. 

I could see Liam watching me closely from near the bottom of the stairs, making sure that I didn't do what my instincts want me to do. All of a sudden I see his eyes widen and before I could question him, I was hit with a wave of Louis. I could smell his need, his desire, practically screaming out for an alpha, and before I knew it I was being  pushed away from the staircase by Liam, who luckily was still in somewhat of a normal state of mind. 

I could feel my chest heaving under his hands as he used all his strength to push me away. He was yelling at me to snap out of it and my eyes snapped down to his, which gave him the chance he needed to push me back onto the sofa. 

"Harry you need to leave" 

"NO" I growled back at Liam. The grip I had on the armrest was so strong I'm surprised it's not broken. I'm barely sitting, most of my weight forward ready to jump up at a moments notice and I could feel the frown on my forehead as I stared back at Liam.

He narrowed his eyes at me but before he could say anything else I heard a massive sigh from the couch opposite us.

"This room stinks like alpha.. and I'm not even attuned to that scent shit" Zayn mumbled as he stood up. 

"I'll be in the kitchen if you need muscle to keep him here" he said to Liam, glancing at me before leaving the room. 

I stared after him for a few minutes. Was he in here the whole time? I must really be out of it. I can feel my rational thinking start to become more prominent so I let out a sigh of my own and look back at Liam, who is still stood in front of me. 

"I might go for a walk.. I think I need to cool down" I say slowly - words are a little hard to form at the moment. Liam moves a few steps back as I stand and grabs my shoulder before I can leave. 

"Mate.. I've never seen you like this before" 

He can't seem to keep eye contact with me as he continues. "I think Louis has triggered your rut.. or at least something equivalent to that" 

"You can't be serious!" I yell back at him. " Why would Louis trigger my rut?! It's not like we're mated or anything"

"Harry seriously!" He yells back to match my volume. "Look at you! You're so goddam alpha what else can it be" 

I quickly focus on myself and realise that I'm now towering over Liam, hands clenched beside me, eyes wide and breathing heavily. What the fuck.. I never act like this. I blink a few times, clenching and unclenching my hands to release some of the tension in my body. I take a step back and look at Liam who still looks angry with me. 

"Sorry Liam.. I don't know why this is happening" I say quietly. "And now I'm apologising to you yet again. Feels like that's all I'm doing recently" 

He sighs, running his hands over his face. A small smile makes it way onto his face and he pats me on the shoulder.

"It's fine Harry, I get it. Just.. I really think you should stay somewhere else for now. It will be hell for all of us to have an omega in heat and an alpha in rut under the same roof. We can figure this all out later yeah?"

I don't reply straight away, processing his words. "Yeah.. I'll go for a walk and see what's available. Thanks Liam" I give him a half smile. "I'll be buying you dinner for a year after this" I chuckle.

He huffs a laugh back at me "You know it H" 

With one last pat on the shoulder he steps away and allows me to leave. I grab my wallet and phone on the way and wave a goodbye to Zayn as I make my way outside. I don't get too far before I hear Zayn call my name behind me. I turn to see him jogging to catch up to me. 

"Wait up H I'll come for a walk with you" 

I wait until he's beside me and we both start walking, I don't have any direction in mind at the moment, just needing to get away from the house where Louis is. 

"So.. are you going to tell me what the fuck is going on?" He gets straight to the point. 

I roll my eyes, huffing out an "I wish I knew" before falling back into silence.

I feel his eyes on me but he doesn't say anything else. The last day has been so intense I honestly don't know what to make of it. I don't remember most of it to be honest, only the feeling of wanting to get to Louis and protect him from the other alpha - who happened to be Liam. I know I am thinking very irrationally at the moment due to my rut being triggered - if that's even what's happening. I feel completely fine now though so maybe it was just something weird to do with Louis and his heat.

"I think it's pretty damn obvious. Louis went into heat, triggered your alpha instincts and you've been all primal ever since." He says matter of factly, shrugging before continuing. "Ergo.. you like him" He says in a sing song voice with a shit eating grin on his face. 

I stop dead in my tracks. 

"First of all.. how the hell can you go from so serious to acting like a child so quickly" He shrugs in response.

"And second of all.. I don't like Louis in that way. Sure he's cute an all but he's my mate"

Zayn grins again looking at me. "You just called him your mate!" he laughs

I groan, throwing my head back. "Shut it Malik you know that's not what I meant"

"Yeah yeah whatever you say big bad alpha." he laughs out as he continues to walk. I follow after a few seconds, shaking my head at Zayn's unpredictable nature. 

We walk for a while before organising another place for me to stay for a couple of days. Luckily they have a spare holiday house not too far from where the others are and Zayn offers to stay with me to keep me company and bring me food if I do end up locked in a room riding out a rut. 

We head back to the house to grab some clothes and supplies for me and as the house comes into view I can see the light on in Louis room through the floor to ceiling windows. I keep my eyes on the room as we get closer and I can already feel my body starting to tense knowing I'll soon be close to him again. His curtains are pulled shut but he must have one of the doors to the balcony open as I can see the curtain blowing gently in the breeze. 

Just as we turn to walk up to the house it happens. I get a whiff of Louis scent, the strongest it's been yet and I can tell he his heading into the peak of his heat. I stop dead in my tracks, nostrils flaring and pupils dilating as I inhale the air again. I feel a growl grumble through my chest and all my thoughts disappear except one.. "Louis"
