You were too headstrong, too determined and definitely too persistent.

Almost desperate. 

Usually those are great qualities to have, but you should have taken a step back before you even began. 

I was private and closed off. I still am. You would have seen that if you were truly looking. 

How could you not have seen that?

You should have done more than just stare. You would have truly seen me then.

Or maybe, if you saw the real me back then, you wouldn't still be here today.
