Chapter 10

We both look over, breaking this odd moment we had. A girl was waving and running towards us. Tamaki stops chasing the twins and once the girl told him the situation, his face went steely.

"Tamaki, what's happening?" I yell, waving over to him. He looks at us, his mind obviously consumed by what's happening.

"Haruhi is in trouble," He calls, already running to a giant rock where a few of the guests are. There were a few taller, bulkier figures that were trying to get to them.

"Mori-Senpai, let's go."

I start to run, but Mori holds on to my hand, slowing me down. I try to shake him off.

"We need to help, whatever it is!"

"You shouldn't run!"

"Then find me a wheelchair or something," I say, getting anxious. "I'm going to the problem regardless."

He bites his lip and the cogs in his head start rumbling. He looks towards the rock and then back at me. He scowls and then scoops me up in a one person lift, I squeak and wind my arms around his neck. He starts running, his longer strides getting us to the rock in no time. The twins, Kyoya, and Tamaki are already at the top. The twins start attacking the men around the girls, Haruhi against one person who is easily twice her size. Mori places me down delicately at the base of the rock before starting to climb up. He instantly starts fighting against the men and I climb up to help the girls.

"C'mon, let's get down, okay?" I calm them down as we start heading down, looking over my shoulder all the while. "We'll get this situated as soon as possible, alright ladies?"

"Mitsumi, this is so scary!" One of them cries out, all of them huddled like penguins, but in fear rather than for warmth. "What's going to happen to the boys?"

"They'll be perfectly fine," I assure them. "Have faith in the club."

"Don't hurt him!" Another calls out, pointing towards Haruhi. I look over and the man is about to throw her off the rock. My heart rate shoots through the roof and I feel dizzy, but I yank the girls away and get them on to the beach.

"Haruhi!" I hear Tamaki shout, jumping into the water as Haruhi sinks lower and lower. "What's going to happen to them?"

"They'll come back up, don't you worry," I say, directing them towards the hotel. Kyoya looks over once he hears my voice and instantly runs over. "Both of them are very strong people, don't you agree? Now, you'll see them as soon as they can, please, go to the hotel to rest."

"Yes, my sincerest apologies ladies," Kyoya says, his voice wavering. "I understand this is a very frightening time. I will have a doctor here as soon as possible to look over you and our dear club."

The girls calm down at Kyoya's actions and they head off altogether, whispering about the scene that was caused. They look over one last time towards the ocean and one of them starts crying. Tamaki and Haruhi haven't come up quite yet.

"Now, for the troublemakers," Kyoya looks over at the two men who were badly bruised and almost passed out. The twins and Mori cast threatening shadows over them. "Your IDs, please."

They hand over their IDs and Kyoya calls the police to pick them up. The twins keep an eye on the ocean as Mori and Hani come up to me. I take deep breath after deep breath, trying to slow down my heart rate, the dizziness starting to catch up, but I don't want to leave until I know Haruhi and Tamaki are okay.

"Mitsu-Chan," Hani latches on to my side, causing me to stumble before he catches us both. "Thanks for helping out there. Looks like Hika- and Kao-Chan did a number on them, yeah?"

"Yeah, looks like they got what they deserve for messing with people." I pat his head and he gives me a smile. I still feel dizzy but I feel more stable with him holding me up. We wait another ten minutes, the anxiety rising within the whole group, but as we start freaking out, Hani points towards the water.

"Haru-Chan!" Hani let go of my legs and I didn't realize how much I was supported by him until my legs started to buckle. A strong hand takes me by the arm and another is placed on my back, the fall being stopped. I look up to see Mori, whose eyes are glued to the ocean, relief evident. I brace myself to try to stand on my own, but Mori doesn't let go, still holding on to my arm. Everyone rushes over to Tamaki and Haruhi, who gets out of Tamaki's arms. Mori slowly walks me over.

"Where'd they go?" Tamaki asks, the anger radiating off of him. Haruhi shivers and her shirt is see-through. I give her my white cover up, which she takes gratefully.

"We took their ID cards, and respectfully," Kyoya looks over at the twins and Mori. Not a word comes out of their mouths. "Asked them to leave. The girls all went back to the hotel and I called a doctor. He should be arriving any minute now."

"Thank you." Tamaki looks over at all of us, the worry still on everyone's faces.

"I'm fine you guys, I don't need a doctor," Haruhi says, the attention solely on her. She draws the shirt closer around her, but other than being cold, she does look fine.

"What were you thinking?" Tamaki says, the eruption of words making Haruhi look at him in shock. "You know, you're not like Hani-Senpai. You're not a martial arts master."

Hani looks over when his name is mentioned, eyes wide.

"Why did you confront them?" Tamaki demands, holding onto Haruhi by her shoulders, a tremor passing through him. "What made you think you would stand a chance? You, against two boys?"

"But it doesn't matter that they're boys and I'm a girl," Haruhi argues back. I think she got the wrong message from what Tamaki was waffling around. He wanted her to stay safe, and she was in a scary situation where she wasn't safe. "I was there, I had to do something, there wasn't any time to think-"

"That's no excuse, you idiot!" Explodes out of Tamaki, and I flinch from his tone. Mori tightens his grip on my arm. I pat him to let him know I'm okay, my eyes glued on to Haruhi. "Don't forget that you're a girl!"

"Look, I'm sorry you had to come and save me Senpai," Haruhi shoots back, clutching the shirt around her. "But I don't understand why you're so mad at me right now. I don't think I did anything wrong!"

"You don't think so?" Tamaki asks, flabbergasted. He looks at the rest of us, but I shake my head. Not at the actions of the two of them, but to not argue anymore. They both need to cool down before talking once more. "Fine. Whatever you say, but I'm not speaking to you until you admit you were wrong!"

He walks past us towards the hotel, Haruhi staring straight ahead of her, rather than looking at Tamaki. I can't help but look at Mori, I have no idea what to do, what side to take. On one hand, Tamaki was worried and scared, and even if he won't admit it, he's afraid of losing her. On the other, Haruhi took it as an offense against her sex, and I see how it can be taken like that, but he was just worried. He didn't know how to communicate it properly, and it led to miscommunication.

The sun has set by now, only leaving a hazy orange glow that mixes with the evening dusk. Haruhi goes off to her room, leaving the rest of us not knowing what to do.

"Takashi, let's go cook dinner," Hani says, hanging off of his cousin's arm. "Haruhi and I caught a lot of shellfish. We'll have a feast!"

"Mitsumi?" I look up at Mori. He gives me a look, asking if I'm okay.

"I'll be fine," I say, detaching myself and walking over to Kyoya slowly. "Just need to rest for a moment. Kyoya, would you mind escorting me?"

"I'm sorry Mitsumi, but I have to go deal with the girls and Tamaki," He says, frustrated and tired. I pat him on the back and start off on my own. "The twins will take you up."

"Fine with me," I say wearily. Hikaru loops one arm in the crook of my elbow and Kaoru does the same on the opposite. "Once we get to my door, both of you leave."

"How ice cold, Mitsumi-Senpai!" Hikaru feigns a hurt look. "Really, you must take after Kyoya-Senpai?"

"We wouldn't dream of going into your room!" Kaoru said.

"Uninvited," Hikaru adds.

"And you are not invited, sorry boys."

We walked slowly to the hotel and up to my room. I thank them before closing and slumping against the door. I pant a little as the overexertion finally takes hold of me. I keep a hand over my chest, measuring my heartbeat as I walk over to my bed, my dresser next to it. I pull out clothes to change into, slipping off my sandals and hat. Fortunately, I haven't done anything too sandy or too wet, so when I hobble over to the bathroom, I just have to wash my feet in the bath. The warm water is such a contrast to how cold the ocean was that goosebumps trail up from my feet to my thighs. I shiver as I start to change into my clothes, which are a sage green button up and a navy blue skort. I dry my feet and hang up the towel before going to the rest of my room. I tie my hair up, too lazy to brush it out.

A knock on my door makes me flinch, but my heart rate is low enough to make me not get dizzy when I stand up.

"Come in," I call, sliding off my bed to sit on the ground and put on my shoes. The door opens and I smile as Mori inches in. "Dinner is ready?"

"Yes."

"Wonderful, I can't wait to see what you and Hani have been up to."

I stand up and place a hand on my bedside table as I gain balance. He starts to walk over but I wave him off. He waits quietly as I walk over.

"I suspect Tamaki hasn't talked to Haruhi yet?" I ask Mori as he walks over to Haruhi's door. He shakes his head and knocks lightly. I hear a stumble and the door opens to Haruhi in an adorable light pink dress. It's a little frilly, something that I can see her hating. She straightens it out and scowls at the pleats in it. I smile as she and Mori walk over to me.

"Dad got to my bag before I could check it again," She groaned. "It's cute, but honestly, I want to be back in my shirt and shorts."

"Understandable," I hum, looping my arm with hers. "Comfort clothing is much nicer than dress up clothing. I have a shirt in my room, if you'd like to change."

"Oh no thanks," She says hastily. "I don't want to ruin it. I'm planning on stuffing myself. Did you see all the crabs we caught?"

"No," I say, looking over at Mori. "Is it a lot?"

Mori nods as Haruhi talks about what she and Hani caught all day. I held onto the staircase's handrails a little tighter than normal, but other than that, everything was perfect on our walk down. Haruhi enters the dining room first, eliciting sounds from the twins. She grumbles again about her dad taking over her wardrobe as I slip into the room next to Kyoya. Mori goes into the kitchen to grab food with Hani to lay upon the table.

"Your father has prepared meals for you that have been sent here earlier today," Kyoya says quietly, the twins still fawning over Haruhi. Tamaki was in a corner of the room, watching, but not going near her. "If you wish, I can have a hotel staff member get a plate ready for you."

"Thanks Kyoya," I say, already heading towards the kitchen. "I can do it myself."

I go in as the cousins leave with steaming plates of fresh crab, at least two pounds of crab for everyone! It smelled heavenly, but I went to the kitchen and grabbed a bento from the enormous refrigerator. I grabbed a pair of chopsticks before heading back into the dining room, where I didn't even hear the rustle of clothing.

They were all sitting in silence, an awkward gloom falling over Tamaki and Haruhi, who were sitting next to each other. I sit next to Kyoya and we all start eating, the silence deafening, except for the loud snap of crab legs being opened. Haruhi snapped them with a vengeance, I almost flinched throughout the whole night and I'm not the one with fury aimed at me. I look over at Kyoya nervously and he looks as calm as ever, as if nothing was wrong with our little group.

"Don't you think you've had enough?" Tamaki says cautiously to Haruhi, who doesn't stop eating. "Give it a rest."

"Excuse me?" She asks, not even looking at the blonde. "I thought you weren't speaking to me."

Tamaki flinches as another crab leg is added to the ever growing pile between them. His expression begins to sour and he gets up from the table.

"Okay, fine, I get it," He states. "It seems you refuse to admit that you were wrong. See if I care. Kyoya, would you show me to my room please?"

"No problem," Kyoya gets up from his seat, giving me a look, one I can't quite decipher yet. "Well, excuse me everyone."

As they leave, the room goes back to silence; Haruhi stops eating. I look over to her and she looks more troubled than the uncaring, hungry face she had earlier. She places the crab leg back on to her place, sighing quietly.

"Maybe he's right," She murmurs, easy to hear in the silence of the room. "Maybe I do need to learn a way to protect myself."

"He got to you, huh?" The twins say in unison, sidling up to the poor girl. Hikaru splits from his twin and leans against the table. "Well, it wouldn't hurt you to learn martial arts or something."

"But!" Kaoru adds. "It's not like we're going to force you to learn it. Besides, that's not the real issue here."

"To be honest," Hikaru continues. "We were all a little worried about how recklessly you acted."

"What do you mean?" Haruhi asks, bewildered, looking at everyone before her eyes landing on me. I get up from my seat and go to Tamaki's old one, placing a hand on hers. "I didn't cause you guys any trouble or anything."

"Haruhi, we care about you," I say, squeezing her hand. "Tamaki especially. When you were thrown in, it took maybe three seconds for Tamaki to think of what to do. It has nothing to do with you being a girl, or needing protection, it has to do with the fact that we all love you very much."

"Besides, what you said isn't true, Haru-Chan," Hani says, standing right next to the girl, looking deep into her eyes. "You made us all worry, and like Mitsu-Chan said, especially Tama-Chan. I think you need to apologize to him the most."

"So you were worried about me?" Haruhi asks. I can't help but smile at her obliviousness. "But why?"

"You're hopeless!" Hikaru throws his arms up in the air in exasperation. I chuckle at the dramatics, but go back to Haruhi. I wish she understood how much the Host Club genuinely cares for her, maybe it would allow her to open up a little more. I mean, all day the Host Club has been finding ways to learn even just her fear. They want to help, more than anything.

"Guys, I'm really sorry," She says, getting up from her seat. Hikaru, Kaoru, and Hani all 'aww' at Haruhi, giving her a tight squeeze of a hug. I stay out of it as does Mori. He looks over at me and I give him a smile. He smiles back, and we keep eye contact until we hear an unsavory noise from Haruhi.

"I'm not feeling so good," Haruhi mutters out, her face turning an ugly green color.

"You must've eaten too much crab," Hikaru says hurriedly, helping her over to the door. She rushes out and heads up the stairs, two at a time.

"Be strong, Haru-Chan!" Hani calls out, the twins frantically help her to a room with a bathroom.

The dining room doors stay open, the hallways and stairs barely lit as it's gone dark and cloudy outside. I stand up and Mori looks over at me again, worried this time. I waved him off and began to grab the plates off of the table. I place all the silverware on one plate and the glasses are stacked up.

"What are you doing, Mitsu-Chan?" Hani asks, snuggling close to his bunny plushie. I smile at him before heading off to the kitchen. He follows me.

"Cleaning up," I say, placing the dishes in the industrial sink. I turn on the hot water and add soap. "Might as well, since the workers are off until tomorrow."

"But then they can just do it tomorrow," He says, watching the water rise, bubbles appearing.

"Yes, but doing simple things like this is nice," I went back to grab more dishes, only to see Mori with the rest. "Thank you, Mori-Senpai."

Mori gives me a nod. Hani gives a big yawn before rubbing his eyes. Mori picks him up and Hani rests his head on Mori's crook of his neck. I turn off the water, filling about two thirds of the sink. I walk with Hani and Mori to the elevator, where the doors take a second to open. As we wait, Hani's breath slows to a soft slumber, making me giggle at the cuteness. Again, it's strange to think of this boy being older than me, but looking so much like a younger brother. He's still very smart, however, and the intelligence shows through his lolita persona.

"Mitsumi," Mori says, clearing his throat lightly. "What you said to Haruhi was very nice."

"Thanks, Mori-Senpai," I reply, fiddling with the ends of my skort. "It's all true. At least, I like to believe it is."

"It is."

"Good."

We enter the elevator as it opens, the button lightly pressed by me. The jolt of the machine makes me lose my balance. Mori catches me lightly, my hands on his side. I feel my face turning bright red, the embarrassment making my heart go faster. I apologize quickly and stand as I normally do.

"I hope you know that the same goes for you."

"Pardon?" I look up at him, a pink blush lightly dusting his cheeks. He isn't looking me in the eyes.

"We too, care about you. Deeply."

I can't help but smile at his honesty. I feel the sting of tears threatening to leave my eyes, and even though I vehemently want them to go away, I can't get them to. I brush my cheek lightly to get the tears off.

"I care about you, all of you," I say, looking over at him and Hani, the sleeping boy looking so sweet. "So very much. Thank you."

The door opens and the twins are out in the hallway with Kyoya, talking about something. Kyoya looks over from Mori and Hani to me. I give him a watery smile and he sighs. Mori looks away from Kyoya and heads off towards his and Hani's rooms. I watch as he enters Hani's room to place him down, the door closing very softly.

"I see Mori-Senpai has talked to you," Kyoya says. "He can be very insightful, can't he?"

"Very much so." I shake my head and recompose myself.

"Hey, are you sure it's a good idea?" Hikaru says, breaking our conversation. We start heading down the hall towards the rest of the rooms.

"To leave the two of them alone?" Kaoru adds.

"What?" I ask, looking back and forth between the twins and Kyoya.

"She's with our Prince Tamaki," Kyoya says, stopping in front of his room, across from mine. "What could possibly go wrong?"

"Oh, is he helping Haruhi?" I ask. I go to open the door, the twins knocking to alert the two. "I hope she's feeling a little better--"

Haruhi and Tamaki are crouched on the floor, Haruhi with a blindfold and ear plugs. Instantly, hands were over my eyes, but I still saw what I saw.

"You nasty pervert," I hear Hikaru say, completely smug and leeching off the moment. Tamaki shrieks and I flinch. I try to take the hands off my eyes, but they stay put.

"What kind of foreplay is that?" Kaoru says gleefully, still covering my eyes. "Look, you're going to scar Mitsumi-Senpai with this debauchery."

"It's not like that!" Tamaki wails. I hear scrambling around the room and a shove from someone to get me out of the room. "It's not what you think!"

The twins howl in laughter as I blink my eyes from the brighter lights. I look over at Tamaki, who looks utterly distraught from whatever we caught him in. Haruhi took off the blindfold and earplugs, looking just as confused as I felt. I give her a shrug as she gives me a questioning look. I look over at Kyoya, whose forehead is in one hand, like he has a headache.

"Alright, I think it's time for me to turn in," He says, going into the room we just exited. "You guys can keep acting like idiots in another room."

He closes his door and I hear a lock click. The twins continue to tease Tamaki, making him sprint to the safety of his own room.

"What was he doing?" I question Haruhi. She bites her lip, getting away from the twins. "That was a very.. Interesting position to find the two of you in."
"The lightning and thunder scared me," She whispers, directly into my ear, fearing others overhearing. "He was trying to help me. Why, did it look weird?"

"A little, yeah." Mori, Hani, and I were probably too far away to hear anything, or the elevator has amazing soundproof walls. "A little raunchy. I'll let someone else explain it to you later."

"Fair enough," She says wearily. "I want to sleep forever."

I giggle and give her a quick hug before going into my room. I close my door and lock it, sighing as the silence takes over. This time, the silence isn't stifling and awkward. I look out the window, and it looks like the storm Haruhi was talking about is still raging. I turn on a lamp and close the windows, not needing to be reminded of the cold weather that's taking over. The lamp emits yellow, comforting light. I change quickly into a nightgown and a large sweater, as I tend to get colder easily. I snuggle into the blankets, the only sound emitting from the hotel being the twins and Tamaki. I smile at their antics before dropping off into a dreamless sleep.
