Chapter 18: Up on the roof
"Just go!" The boys shouted at Alex when I rejoined him. I looked down and saw that my hands were shaking with fear. Me and Alex both ran towards the roof access.
"How do we know that the roof is stable enough for us to walk on?" I asked him.
"I don't." He simply replied.
"Great." I muttered under my breath. My mind went straight to Max. What if I never see him again? Was the main question I had in my head. Another question came into my head. What if I never get to apologise to Janice? Would she still hate me if I was dead. She probably would knowing her. We drew closer and closer to the roof access. When we made it to the roof we looked up to where the satellite was. Alex took of his cap.
"Oh, my God. That's tall." Alex said from beside me. He had tossed his hat on the floor. I took my sunglasses and hat off and chucked them to the side.
"You can say that again." I said to him. I went up for miles at least. "If you climb up first I can be your lookout so I can see if anything's coming or not?" I asked him.
"Yeah, that'll be good." He said while nodding his head.
"Let's get moving then." I said to him. We both walked towards it and started climbing up the side of it. If we fall from this we're going to be smashed open like eggs.
"Don't look down." He whispered to himself.
"You'll be fine." I reassured him.
"Don't look down." He kept repeating as he was climbing. Honestly it was kind of nerve wracking. I gripped ahold of the bars with all my strength. I definitely wasn't going to let my hands slip and let me plummet towards my death. We made our way higher and higher. The ground was just get smaller and smaller the higher we went up.
"Alex your fine." I reassured him. We were closer to the top, the wind was whistling in our ears trying to distract us. I looked down quickly and saw the creature that yet again we thought we'd killed. "Alex, you might wanna go a bit quicker because we have an issue." I told him.
"Why?" He asked with worry in his voice.
"If I tell you your going to panic and possibly kill both of us so I'm not going to tell you." I told him.
"Y/N, Just tell me." He said to me.
"The creature. It's back." I told him in two sentences.
"Alex! Y/N!" Dariush and Gabriel were shouting through the speakers.
"God?" Alex asked confused.
"Behind you, look down!" Gabriel shouted.
"Go, hurry, Alex, Y/N!" Dariush shouted. Alex was right next to the satellite he just needed to push it.
"Oh, God!" We both whispered. The creature was climbing up the ladder.
"Alex, do it and now!" I shouted at him. Alex tried pushing the satellite but it wouldn't budge. He tried pushing it with his legs for it to only move an inch. He swung off the ladder but managed to keep ahold of it. "Alex, it's coming!" I shouted at him. I could hear the creature's deep and dark snarling from beneath us. "Alex, if you don't do it now we're going to die." I told him. He understood what I said and tried to use more of his strength to push the satellite. He managed to move the satellite. The light when green with beeping following after it. We both climbed higher up trying to get rid of this thing. We were going to run out of places to go. When we made it to the top the creature was hissing at us like some kind of serpent that wanted revenge. Me and Alex used items that we had on us and zip lined down the wire. He used a belt and I ripped off one of my sleeves from my hoodie and used that. Was I afraid it was going to break? Yes. Yes I was but I had a bit of hope that no one could take away from me. At least we were far away from this monster for once. I still couldn't be believe we had outsmarted for the first time. We managed to make it to the bottom of the roof while the monster was still above us.
When we had made it to the roof we immediately let go of what we were holding onto. We rolled multiple times. When we had finished rolling we groaned in pain, I stood up and walked over to Alex. "We gotta go." I told him. I helped him up and we left. Running off the roof as quick as we could. I was thinking about the others. Gabriel and Dariush waiting to launch Excalibur. Max and ZhenZhen sorting out the power. And then there was us. Running for our lives, trying to escape this creature again. We were running out of time. I knew it and so did Alex. I looked behind and I couldn't see the creature anymore. I hit Alex's arm lightly.
"What is it?" He asked panicked.
"It's gone. The alien it's gone." I told him with worry and stress in my voice. We both started walking. I could hear the sound of roaring from beneath us. "We need to find a way out." I said to him. He nodded in agreement. We both looked around trying to see a sign of something but there was nothing,
"Y/N." I heard Alex say. I looked at him. "Over there." He said pointing to a route we could take. We started going down the corridor trying find places that we could get that wasn't blocked off. We managed to get back to the place where the others were. Alex threw his Rubik's cube at the alien. "Come at us, bitch!" Alex said to the creature. It was staring at us intently. I signalled for the others to go. "Come get us, mother..." Alex said before cutting himself off. "Come on." Alex muttered.
"What are you doing? You can't kill it with a flare gun." Gabriel told us.
"No. But I know what can. Launch Excalibur, then meet us outside." Alex said before we both ran off. I had no idea where I was going I was just following Alex. We headed towards the lab. "Come on." Alex said while trying to open the door. I helped him. We managed to get it open and we ran down the stairs. "Come get us." He shouted as we went down them. Whatever was going to happen next I trusted Alex that we would be safe and I trusted that Gabriel and ZhenZhen would keep Max and Dariush alive.
