Chapter Six

Kimora's POV

"Thank you so much, Eden. You did a huge favor for me again!" I exclaimed and grinned at my assistant. She well arranged my time frame and jobs, and she always remind me of my important tasks from time to time.

That makes sense she had already worked more than 5 years in this place as in my moms' high standard to the employees' performance.

"No biggie," Eden smiled as she checked her watch and said, "I know you work hard, but you deserve a break."

I checked the time on my phone the time was already past 12 as I said, "I'll go later. Well, It's time for you to go." I waved her out as she chuckled.

"Okay, I gotta leave," she said excitedly and quickly walked to the door as she turned back and added, "Stop working and take a break, Kimora."

"Will do," I chuckled as she waved at me before she left. Once she already left, I stretched my hands over my head and sighed.

I started working here for a week and it was hectic and no break for me. I already had three meetings since this morning. Not only three meetings I had for monitoring the managers, but also I have to prepare my reports for my bosses.

I saluted my moms for living in this lifestyle for years. I didn't mean to complain about this job I was having, it was quite challenging for me as I was still new in this place. Somehow, I should pick up my pace to reach the standard of a General Manager.

In people's eyes, they might think I was living under my moms' wings to survive in this place. They were wrong. It wasn't what they think like that at all.

Working under my parents doesn't mean I would get special treatment from them. We had to be professional with each other whenever we were in this property and every single of my tasks and reports to my moms would have a dateline given from them.

I would be shocked by the dateline expected from them. Sometimes, they seemed like fool me around with their amusement face. They would tell me this whenever I gave them that face.

"This is a great opportunity for you to learn your time management skill as a GM."

Well said, moms.

They could be very mean bosses in this property, but once we stepped into our sweet home, they eventually became the sweetest moms for me.

Even though they seemed like evil bosses in everyone's eyes, sometimes I would be amazed by their charm of the working skills. This side of them inspired me a lot and I always told myself that I could do it and never let them down since they already had a hope that I would gonna love this business and I was their only future for continuing this business which was my grandpa's baby.

I was startled a little when my intercom was ringing as I laughed and took the phone to answer by knowing who was calling me, "It's just 12, mom."

"We have our fixed lunch hour, Kimmy. The lunch breaks either from 12 pm to 1 pm or 1 pm to 2 pm sharp." mom said.

She was mean, wasn't she?

"Oh, you're so harsh, Mrs. Harrison," I said casually by knowing to call her like that was her weakness since she enjoys people addressing her as mommy's last name.

"I'm just giving you a sweet reminder. I'd never want any of my employees gastric and have to take a sick leave if they miss out their lunch break," mom said formally, but I could picture her saying with a contain smile whenever anything related to mommy. Whipped.

"That's sweet, Mrs. Harrison," I said sarcastically.

I shook my head when mom burst out laughing and said with her laughter, "Go have your lunch and stop being like a baby."

"Yea, yea," I said dully.

"Seemed your performance is better than we expected, we'll reward two hours breaks for you." I smiled at my mom's voice which already softened.

"Thank you, Mrs. Harrison," I grinned and added, "I love-"

"Don't forget you'll have a meeting by 2.30 pm," mom interjected as I scoffed.

"That's horrible." I sighed and said, "Fine, see you. I love you, mom."

"I love you too, Kimmy," mom said softly.

I smiled and added, "Say I love you to mommy for me, I miss her."

"Authorize your superior is restricted, Miss Kendrick."

"Mom,"

"Go open your door, silly," mom giggled.

"Okay, bye mom."

We ended the call as I quickly walked toward the door and I squealed after I opened the door seeing mommy was smiling at me at the doorway.

"Let's discuss at The Newton's," mommy said formally and remained her gentle smile.

I salute her with a grin and said, "Noted, Mrs. Kendrick." I joined mommy and we started walking side to side as I asked, "Mrs. Harrison not joining us?"

"She will have a meeting at 12.30," mommy said.

"Ah, that's too bad. Maybe we could get a latte for Mrs. Harrison." I suggested with a light shrug.

"Sounds good," mommy chuckled.

🍯🍯🍯

I enjoyed the aroma of the coffee as I surveyed around the cafe while walking toward the cashier with mommy. This was the first time I went here, it looks cozy in white theme and matching classic wooden furniture.

The cafe was already filled with young adults busy with their homework or their jobs. On the other hand, Charli was busy brewing the beverage and only a crew assisted her in serving the drinks and food to the guests.

Most of the tables would with a plate of big breakfast which looks delicious and made me starving as well. Also, the lava art of the beverage looks amazing which was a Sun.

"What do you want, Kimmy?"

I shifted my attention back to mommy as I realized we were still in a long queue and I said, "I'll have food of the day and a hot Macchiato please, Mrs. Kendrick."

Mommy arched her eyebrow perhaps she didn't get the "food of the day" as she took a quick glance and she asked, "A big breakfast, Kimmy?"

"Correct, Mrs. Kendrick. It seemed like food of the day because most of the tables serve with this. And I already crave for it," I explained.

Mommy chuckled with rolled her eyes and caressed my head, "We meant we have to be professional, and it doesn't mean you're not my daughter in the hotel."

I giggled and asked, "Is that mean I can you and mom as usual?"

"Of course. We only keep in professional while we're having the meetings."

"I get it." I grinned and felt relief, "That's so much better. I felt horrible that we look like strangers whenever we work, mommy."

"But, one more thing. You're not allowed to stick with us all the time. That's an order from mom." mommy said.

I groaned, "She's mean. She just dislikes me spending more time with you."

"No, she's not. She loves you as I do, Kimmy," mommy said as she gently held my hand and explained, "She's protecting you."

"Why?" I asked curiously with tilted my head.

What did she mean by protecting me? Should they get a hitman for me?

"She never wants to put you in the condition as a conflict of interest. She supposes to have a plan to introduce you as a newly hired GM in another profile like her newly joined this hotel back years. But, after a long discussion between us, I decided we could introduce you as our daughter joined this place and stay professional would work." mommy explained patiently.

I always enjoyed mommy explaining everything to me patiently. She would always explain clear and easy to understand. Unlikely mom, she would out of patience whenever I threw numerous questions to her.

"I get it." I finally said as mommy chuckled and gently squeezed my hand.

"Hi," Charli greeted with a wide smile and she seemed to be in a good mood.

"Hi, Charli," I greeted as Charli gave me a nod remained her wide smile and she shifted her attention to mommy when mommy started making the order of the food and drinks.

"So, we'll have two set big breakfasts, one hot Americano and one hot Macchiato."

"The big breakfast with the choice of scrambled eggs or omelet?" Charli asked while she started pressing the cashier.

"Scramble eggs for both, please," I said confidently with a grin knowing that would be mommy's choice.

"Okay, all set. We might be slightly slower than usual. It would take more than 10 minutes for the big breakfast," Charli said apologetically.

"No worries. We have much time for our lunch break."

"That's good to work together with your beloved," Charli said as she stood aside for her crew to take over the cashier and we stood aside for the guests to make their orders.

"Summer knows better," Mommy wrapped an arm around me and pointed, "If Charlotte not as handy as Kimmy would be easier."

"Mommy," I whined as the ladies laughed.

"Lotte is doing well. Summer just high standard in her performance." Charli said as she turned to me and smiled, "I believe you might be going through this like Lotte, right?"

I agreed with nodded my head at her eagerly and said, "You're absolutely right. I feel Charlotte."

Charli chuckled and she was interrupted by her crew before she could continue to say something. She dismissed herself at us apologetically before entered into the kitchen.

There had already cleaned tables seemed some of the guests just left, but Mommy picked a corner of the table which was haven't cleared yet. But, very soon the crew came over to clear the table as we slipped in the seats facing each other.

Mommy glanced at the window before she leaned her back against the seat and stared at me with a smile. I already get used to it whenever she stared at me like that by knowing what was in her mind.

"Are you admiring your lovely daughter?" I joked as I blew a kiss at mommy.

"Yes, I'm. You just remind me about mom. She and I had a date here before and this is the spot she liked," Mommy said with a wider smile and indicated the seat I was sitting in.

"If I know the discussion is about Mrs. and Mrs. Kendrick's romance story, I should out earlier with you." I teased and check my watch, "We could extend our discussion if Mrs. Kendrick would happily dismiss all the meetings later."

"That's too bad for you, Kimmy. The discussion might not be what you expected. We can start anytime if you like," Mommy stared amusedly at me.

"You're kidding, right?" I asked in disbelief as mommy tilted her head and gave me a grin. She sometimes would be great in messing with people and now I get why mom wanted to strangle mommy.

"A Big breakfast and, Machiatto for you," Charli served the food and drink on the table for me with my help but she stopped me with a smile.

Charli sighed lightly as she took a seat and joined us after she served the food to us.

"I could tell you're in a good mood today because your Sunshine just came back," mommy said while she indicated my drink with sun lava art.

"You met? She came back this morning," Charli asked with a hint of delight as mommy nodded her head, "She's lovely and nice like you."

Charli chuckled, "She's not a chatterbox like Lotte." she smiled at the drink and explained, "That's her favorite drink." Charli's eyes shifted to mommy and teased, "This is the table you and Ophelia dating for years back."

"Right, and here is her favorite spot." Mommy chuckled as she glanced at me and said, "Look at her, she could tell how long we didn't spend time in here. We can spend more time here whenever I'm looking for Americano and dating after we retire for sooner or later."

I felt a hint of guilt whenever I think of I was the only person keeping them retired for my sake.

"Anytime. Summer would be your third wheel," Charli joked as they laughed.

"Okay, I'll stop being a third wheel. Enjoy." Charli grinned as she stood up and responded to her crew, "Coming," She gave us a nod before heading back to the cashier.

Mommy started cutting the food as she asked, "Is everything well prepared for tomorrow?"

"Close enough if all of them followed the plan we made," I sighed as I played the earcup and stared at the sun lava art of my macchiato.

"Take it easy, Kimmy. You are well planned and that shouldn't be a problem. The employees are well trained too."

"I'm just worried tomorrow everything would not be what I expected. It's not a joke for this event which is for The Skyland. I didn't expect I would do a huge event in my first job." I rambled.

I felt mommy gently squeeze my hand and said, "Don't worry so much, you did a very great job. We got your back, Kimmy."

I finally loosened up and nodded my head, "Thanks, mommy. You're our chill pill of the house."

Mommy chuckle softly as she nodded her head to my plate of big breakfast and said, "Let's eat before mom complains."

I grinned, "You're right,"

Speaking of the devil I saw mommy's phone was ringing and it was mom's caller id.

Mommy took the phone and answered softly, "We're eating now, Lia."

Mommy chuckled softly, "She's eating too. We'll get a set and a latte for your late lunch, okay?"

"I love you, more," Mommy said with the face I always see whenever she stared at mom. She held the phone to me as I took the phone and teased, "Good afternoon, Mrs. Harrison. What can I assist you with?"

"There you are. You only left an hour to finish your lunch. Don't forget to eat in a slow place, you know you have gastric, right?" mom rambled as I giggled at her.

"Kimora Kendrick, are you listening to your CEO?"

"Yes, ma'am. I'm eating now." I keep giggling as she reminded me, "Just, take it slow to eat. You never eat regularly and you have always eaten in a rush since you started working. Also, quit the nonsense about your diet plan and meals."

"Okay, mom. I either miss out on my lunch or eat in a hurry if you keep talking."

"Good. Take it slow, okay, and give mommy eat if you're full."

"Yea yea. I love you, mom."

I heard she hummed with a hint of delight as she said, "I love you more. Go eat and bye."

"Bye," I said as I waited for her to end the call.

Mommy chuckled with shook her head as she took her phone from me to put it into her handbag. She poke a harsh brown from her plate and put it on my plate as my eyes widened and stared at mommy.

"You skipped your breakfast, Kimmy."

"Mom told me not to eat if I'm full,"

"If only you're full," mommy said as she poke the already cut sausage and chew.

"Okay, I'll drop a few sausages for you then. Mom told me to give you eat if I'm too full." I took the sausages to put on her plate as mommy chuckled, "You and mom enjoy stuffing me, huh."

"You're lean and you should worry less. Mom told me she prefer you become cuddly,"

"No, I want to keep in shape." mommy laughed.

"I wish I have great metabolism like you. I not only have to do more workouts and also need to eat my dry and tasteless salad to keep this shape."

"Do yoga. Not only relax your mind but also helpful to burn fats."

"Boring. I rather run the treadmill or lift the weight."I said as I shook my head eagerly. I would say no to yoga because it was killing me.

"I did all of them," mommy said casually as I snorted at her, "You are an exercise freak."

Mommy laughed as we continue to enjoy our lunch date.

🍯🍯🍯

I glanced at the full-frame mirror reflecting my full body already clothed with the champagne color dress with sleeveless open one side shoulder. The length of the dress to my ankles with a side opened till the mid of my thigh with my matching heels.

I gently touched the permed wavy lock of my hair and checked my already make-up face covered with a golden masquerade mask. I smiled at the mirror and was satisfied with my outlook and ready to go out anytime after my moms were ready.

I was still nervous about the event for tonight even though moms already reassured me and I knew I had already done my part to make everything all set.

Somehow, I couldn't wait to see the result sooner of the dress code I had standardized for matching the guest. The dress code set from the guest was dress or suit and masquerade mask.

"You're gorgeous, Lia," mommy said breathlessly and she recognized us wrongly again. Mom could be playful and enjoy pranking mommy.

Mommy was stunning in her silky black blouse beneath her pearl while suit and pants and a pair of her white heels. Her dark hair was gorgeous and I envy her nice hair could down freely and naturally, and her nice matching silver mask on her face. As usual, black and white was her favorite all the time.

Now I get why mom was always being possessive whenever they had parties and ball nights. I believed mommy's beauty could attract many men and women. That was quite entertaining for me whenever I saw mom was jealous and threw a tantrum when they reached home after the parties.

"You're hot," I compliment and stifled my laughter which earned a smirk from mommy as she indicated her outfit and said proudly, "This is what you wish for it, shall we?" mommy stretched her hand to me as I gently held her hand and joined her.

Mom barged in the door and played as me and she greeted cheerfully, "Are we leaving, moms?"

Well played mom.

Our dressed were the same color but different design. Hers was opened shoulder long sleeve dress. Somehow, her gesture already betrayed her. I could see her eyes were dancing at mommy beneath her pearl white mask and grinned from ear to ear.

Mommy seemed didn't realize anything, she continued to walk toward mom with her hand in mine and used a free hand gently cupped mom's right face and said softly, "You've grown up and so beautiful, Kimmy."

I wanna slap my forehead when mom leaned in and seemed melted by mom's hand. After a split second, I burst out laughing when mommy pinched mom's face earned a yelp from her.

"Very adorable, Lia. I already recognize you when your eyes are on me," mommy said with a chuckle.

"Very boring," mom retorted as she sighed casually and smiled at us, "Shall we?"

"Absolutely," mommy and I said together as we left the suite room with mom and I linked our arms in the taller lady's arms side to side and headed to the ballroom.

I was quite satisfied with the decoration in the hall, the employees on duty in their champagne color vests in pants or skirts, black mask, white long sleeve work shirt, and their groomed hair with matching black bow ties and shoes.

Moms and I already socialize and they introduced me to numerous guests. I was pleased most of them gave good feedback on the theme I planned, and the great service from the employees.

"My apologies. I'll excuse for a while," Mommy said as she gave a nod to the guest before walking toward the corner I found she was approaching a girl and I assumed she was the photographer who took over Vic's job.

Speaking of the photographer, I was disappointed when my moms told me Vic couldn't make it because Lexi gave birth. I knew I shouldn't be upset about this happiness of Victor's but I couldn't hide my emotion and let it pass just like that.

I already expected my big brother could witness my first job on duty with his photo shooting since I already started this preparation. Also, he already promised me and he was looking forward to working with me too.

Moms even told me I should worry less about the choice of photographer he chose for us. They seemed happy with the choice of Victor's. But, who cares. I just want my big brother to do this instead of other people.

The name of the photographer I only knew was Sun, Sunny, Solar, or whatever weird name since I never pay much attention when moms were talking about the photographer who would replace Victor.

I was surprised Sunny was a girl. The way she dress was simple but looked smart in her plain button-up long sleeve shirts tug in her faded denim skinny jeans and a pair of Dr. Martin boots. Her long dark brown hair was in a high ponytail, a white mask already covered half of her face and a camera hung on her chest.

She already earned a respect by seeing she followed the theme code with a mask on her face even though we already informed her that the photographer was an exception in this theme with their duty purpose.

I couldn't help, but I smiled at her effortless dressing. I had never seen a girl who could be stunning in a simple androgynous outfit that clung to her feminine curve perfectly.

The photographer was fast in shooting a few pictures of mommy. Mommy stepped closer to the photographer as she smiled with nodded her head while she was looking at the photos in the camera.

"So, you already move on to a new photographer instead of the lovely girl who has taken many pictures of you?"

I had to tear my gaze away from the mysterious girl and stare at mom, "Mom, I told you we are friends." For switching the topic I quickly indicated the photographer and asked, "So, she's the photographer who takes over Victor's job?"

"Wanna get to know her? Go for it." mom wiggled her eyebrow as I rolled my eyes at her, "I'm not desperate to get anyone, mom."

Before we could continue our conversation, the light deemed and the host walked on the stage and greet, "Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Skyline 20th anniversary. Before I share my appreciation with everyone, I would like to thank you for Flamingo Hotel well organizing theme. Does everyone love it?"

"Of course!" the guests answered with applause.

"That's great. Let me thank you for every guest who is right here, I truly appreciate your effort and passion to make our business well improve and make it better. Let's make a toast for our achievement and make this party happen for our celebration!"

The guests cheered out loud as the host added, "To all the handsome and gorgeous here, there provide a photobooth for us to take photos." The host used his hands played like a binocular as he looked at the booth which already filled a long queue of the guests and he added, "Hmm... It looks like quite merry in there." this earned laughter from the sea of guests.

"Alright, Let's started the party! We'll have a prom dance at 8 pm. So, take your spare time to clean your teeth and keep your oral fresh before you get a partner to dance." the host clicked his tongue and laughter erupted the hall.

"I hope everyone in there will meet a great partner, enjoy!" The host finished with a bow as he left the stage followed by the applause from the guests and the soft music started playing.

I was relieved that the event started and witness everyone's happy and enjoyable vibe in the environment we prepared.

I smiled at mom when I felt she entwine her hand in mine as she said softly with a grin, "I'm so proud of you, Kimmy."

I shook my head and said, "I'll not gonna make it without you and mommy."

Mom gently squeezed my hand and said, "We only gave you direction, and all the plan and decision making all made from you," mom smiled as she said cheerfully, "Come on, let's have our little celebration after my baby girl's effort." I nodded my head at her happily as we walked hand in hand toward the food station to take our dinner.

"Sunshine did an amazing job," Mommy complimented while she joined us.

"We trust Charli and Summer's little Sunshine." mom added.

"She's their daughter?" I asked in surprise.

"Yes, she is," mommy said as she chuckled, "We already told you, but you seemed upset that time."

"I'm sorry. I was overreacted, mommy." I said with guilt.

"Don't be. Vic is your brother and this meant a lot for you. He understands about it." mommy said as she gently rest a hand on my shoulder.

I sighed softly and said, "I'm fine, Mommy. I shouldn't be rude to Vic. I didn't even congrats to him."

"Vic would never be mad at you. You're his beloved sister." mommy reassured me.

"I'm still bad sister. I'm gonna call him after this event has ended," I smiled at my moms and they seemed happy with my decision. We finally took a table at the corner of the hall and started eating.

I cringed after I ate a spoon of the potato salad which was like frozen food just taken out from the freezer and I complained, "They never change after I already told them the problem about this,"

I was praying the beef would not be disappointed as I took a bite and I shook my head, "Ugh, I hope the guests won't be upset with the grilled sirloin. It's not even a medium rare."

"Take it easy, Kimmy. The chef just follow the request from the guests. They prefer rare." mom explained and she gently patted my hand.

I shook my head and argued, "How could they be stubborn."

"Sometimes it is a give and takes, we need their favor, Kimmy." mommy said.

"But, we couldn't spoil them too much, moms," I pointed.

"We are employers and we should understand our employees. Everything couldn't work without happy and great employees. Besides, we already set our working policies for them to follow. The captain of the chef followed instructions from the marketing team, but they would have their own standard of food too." mommy explained.

"Deep, you can't be retired so soon I guess," I said dejectedly.

"Do you want us to leave you so soon?" mommy teased as mom playfully pursed her lips at me.

"Of course not. I just want you guys to rest and let me take care of this," I said.

"Take your time to learn, you still have so much to learn Kimmy," mom smiled as she jested, "You should take this opportunity to learn more from your CFO who has rich experience in managing business background."

I finally loosened up myself and smiled at them. I should listen to them.

"Cheers for Kimmy's first achievement," mommy said as she held the stem of the glass of red wine which was just been served by the waitress as mom and I each get a glass and ready toast with mommy.

"Congratulation to our baby girl who did her great job," mom cheered as we toasted and laughed together and continue to enjoy the dinner and party.

Moms were talking with the guests who just joined our table and my attention shifted to the flash next to my table. The flash was coming from the mystery pretty girl's camera. She was smiling all the time at the people while she was taking pictures.

The people seemed happy to have her around and they were grinning and posing for her to take photos.

After she finished taking the pictures, she started walking further away as she surveyed around the hall and she just took a few shots anywhere which I had no idea what was interesting for her.

"I agree effortless is the best description of the photographs taken from her." I heard one of the random people say but my eyes remained on the mystery girl.

"That's what people say about her and she's a well-known talent photographer in her young age," another person said.

Speaking of talent, effortless and great photo shooting, would this mystery girl's skill be better than Soleil?

Maybe I should find out.
