twenty three
+Biana woke up, feeling refreshed. Fitz and Sophie had gone on a not date date last night, and Biana predicted they'd be dating within the next few weeks. Keefe was suppose to meet her for breakfast in Atlantis, and they would do a little window shopping before she babysat the triplets while Dex ran Slurps n' Burps for his dad, who was currently sick. Aside from the whole Kesler catching a virus thing, all was right in the world.
Cheerfully, she climbed out of bed and put on her favorite light pink tea dress before carefully doing her makeup as well as selecting her jewelry for the day. When she finished, she skipped down the hall, heels in hand, ready to start the day when Fitz stopped her, looking distressed.
Biana was fairly surprised to see his hair a mess, and his eyes slightly red, as if he had barely slept. "I need to tell you something, it's really important," Fitz's voice rasped a bit, like he had been crying, "it's about Keefe?"
Her stomach dropped a little, "What is it?"
"So when Sophie and I went out to Moonglade last night, Sophie saw Squall talking to Tam and Linh. She overheard them say that Keefe was a member of the Neverseen."
That was ridiculous, they were dating, she would have known, right? "She must have misheard them, Keefe would never-"
"I know," her brother cut her off, "I didn't want to believe it either, but it makes sense. He was so angry and distant for a while, then he's suddenly back to normal?"
"Why would Squall tell Tam and Linh and not you and Sophie?" She questioned, getting annoyed for some reason. "Sophie is literally their greatest accomplishment."
"The Black Swan wanted spies of their own in our group, protecting Sophie. Besides, neither of them are close to Keefe or Marella."
Biana shuddered at her attacker's name next to her boyfriend's, "How do you know it was Squall and not some member of the Neverseen?"
"It's pretty hard to miss an ice lady lit by Balefire."
"Well, how do you know they said Keefe?" She asked defensively, "'Keefe' is really close to Keith or Wreath!"
"Wait... you don't believe me?" Fitz asked in surprise, his face slowly paling.
"Of course I don't! Fitz, we've known Keefe for years. He wouldn't do that to us, he couldn't," she said with full confidence, her fists balling at her sides.
"I didn't believe it at first either, but Biana, don't you remember what he did to us and Sophie? If he could do that, he could join the Neverseen without batting an eye."
She threw her hands up in the air, raising her voice "He was going through a tough time!"
"And so he took it out on us?" Fitz asked, raising his voice even louder than she had, "The Keefe I grew up with would never have done that!"
"He's still the same! Fitz, I'm his girlfriend, I should know," she tried to soften her voice, not wanting this to blow out of proportion.
It didn't work, "Yeah? And he treats you like crap! It's obvious that a part of him still likes Sophie!"
She gasped, and scowled, "You don't know anything about us! And if some of him still likes her, it'll fade away eventually. She broke his heart! That takes time to get over! Look, I know you're hyper-protective of your crush, but you don't need to take it out on my relationship."
"This isn't about my feelings for Sophie, this is about Keefe being a total jerk, then asking you out and suddenly changing!" Fitz roared. It had probably been a mistake to bring Sophie into this.
"Maybe I changed him!"
"This isn't some fairytale, Biana, this is real life, and that kind of thing doesn't happen in reality!"
"Well maybe he saw what he was doing wrong, and wanted to change!"
"So you could be a rebound girl?" Fitz sneered.
"We're each other's number ones, like you and Sophie! It's meant to be!" Biana argued, passionately believing every work she said.
"Not all number ones are meant to be! No one knows if Sophie and I are meant to be!" Biana was so shocked, she couldn't think of a retort, so Fitz continued. "The first person you fall for is rarely ever your last. The odds are against us, all of us! You're suppose to be the one who knows about all this romance and feelings stuff, yet you don't even notice how your boyfriend isn't the prince charming you think is is anymore!"
"Are you just jealous that Keefe has the guts to show his emotions and confess his feelings to me, when you can barely confess your feelings for Sophie to yourself?" Biana snapped brutally, "Or that I'm 'stealing' your best friend away from you, because look-"
"He's not my best friend anymore!" Her brother yelled, venom practically dripping from his teeth, "Not after all he's done."
"It's been over a week Fitz, let it go! It's done, he's normal again, everything is fine-"
"Everything's not fine," her brother's voice dropped down to a low, haunting, icy, fury laced tone, "He emotionally abused my sister, assaulted my cognate, and hit me for asking why he did those things to you both, yet you can turn around and forgive him without batting an eye. You're so caught up in your relationship with him that you can't even see that he's not treating you right, and that he's a spy for the Neverseen sent to either betray or kill us, or both."
"You don't know him like I do. I was there for him when he needed someone," Biana argued desperately, through she knew she was only grasping at strings now. Even though she couldn't come up with a bigger argument, she just couldn't believe that Keefe, who she had always seen as someone so good, could be bad.
"You're right, I don't know him like you do, because I know the old Keefe is gone, and this new one is bad news. Do what you want, believe what you want, but I don't want to hear about it until you see that I'm right."
"Fine," she spat, "I'll just go." Biana felt like crying, but couldn't. She was too angry for tears to even form. She just turned on her heel and walked out. As she walked towards the gates around the property, she started to feel guilty. Maybe she had been too harsh to Fitz like he had been to her. Maybe he was right... No. He couldn't be, he just... couldn't.
She was so lost in thought that she didn't see Sophie running up the path, "Biana, are you okay?"
Biana blinked, and stopped, "Yeah, why?"
"I heard you and Fitz got into a fight, and he's so upset, that he asked me to come over," Sophie explained, her brow creased with worry.
"To team up against me, because look-" Biana started, frowning.
"No!" Sophie assured her, "I'm just here because Fitz needs my support, but if you need some too, I'm sure he can wait-"
Biana smiled a little, knowing that she and Fitz were perfect for eachother. She wondered in she and Keefe were actually perfect for eachother too. "That's okay, but I just really want to go on my date right now, thank you though. Go take care of him."
Before she could blink, Sophie hugged her, "You know that Fitz and I are just looking out for you, right? We heard some information that may or not be true, and we're just scared for you. You're Biana, and we love you so much, that we want everything to be perfect for you, even though that's pretty unrealistic. You don't have to believe if it's true or not, but treat the idea as a caution. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself, it just means keep an eye out occasionally, and maybe not talk about top secret Black Swan stuff."
Cautiously, Biana hugged her back, "But he said all those things about Keefe..."
Sophie sighed a little and pulled back to look at her, "He's very upset about what Keefe did. He cares about us so much, and Keefe didn't seem to care at all, even punched him in the face. He's not over that yet. He also didn't foresee you dating him, and though it's really not that big of a deal, when combined with Fitz's pent up anger about what Keefe did, that just kind of explodes and makes everything worse. That doesn't mean it was right for him to blow up at you like that, and none of it is because of you. I mean, you may have hit a few soft spots, but I know he did too... I'm keeping you from your awesome date, aren't I?"
Biana giggled a little, "It's just breakfast in Atlantis."
"It's a date, you're in love, of course it's special! Tell me about it later, okay? And if you ever want to talk about feelings or anything else-anytime- just give me a call," Sophie hugged her tightly again, and Biana smiled, her heart feeling warm. Sophie was such a good friend, that they probably weren't best friends anymore, they were just sisters. Biana had the feeling that she had felt this warm feeling before...
"Thanks Sophie, you're the best."
They pulled apart, and started to head in their separate directions
"I try," she laughed, "now go have fun!"
"Okay, I will! And Sophie?" Biana got a little nervous about how she would react to what she wanted to say.
"Yeah?"
"Tell Fitz I'm sorry, okay?"
Sophie smiled wider, "I will."
With that, they said goodbye, and Biana watched as Sophie went inside, slowly remembering where she had felt that warm feeling in her heart... With Fitz (when they weren't fighting) and when she was with Dex! That means she saw him as family! Excellent, she finally described how she felt about him! ...Right? A small part of her didn't believe this, but it was about the size of the part that believed that Fitz was right... So she just let it go.
Just as she climbed onto the leap master, she realized that she didn't grab her purse! Wow, smart move. Quickly, she hurried back inside, tiptoeing past Fitz's room to hers. Biana grabbed her purse and began to tiptoe back, when she noticed that Fitz's door was slightly open. She heard muffled sobs and a soothing whisper, which undoubtedly belonged to Sophie. Out of traitorous curiosity, she peered through to see Fitz on his knees on the floor, his face buried into Sophie's shoulder, who he was holding tightly on his lap. Sophie's legs were out in front of her, perpendicular to Fitz's as she was turned towards her cognate. One hand was gently rubbing his back, and the other was pressing his head against her as she buried her face in his hair, gently murmuring comforting words. They were so close, that her lips were undoubtedly brushing against his ear, and Fitz's arms were wrapped around her waist so tightly, that Biana was worried he'd crush her. Sophie didn't seem to mind as she comforted him, neither of them noticing that Biana was watching.
Was he this upset over their fight? Biana's heart sank a little as she realized that everything Sophie had said was true. She knew before that Sophie was telling the truth, but it didn't hit her as hard as it did now. Even she had never seen this side of her brother, and Sophie looked like she had done this before... It surprised Biana, but she decided to shake it off and head to her date. She couldn't help but wonder now, after seeing Fitz so broken down, if he was right after all as she stepped onto the leap master platform and light leaped away.
Throughout the date, she thought about it, looked for signs that her brother had been right, that her boyfriend was a member of the Neverseen, but was relieved to find none... on this date. The date was okay in itself, both she and Keefe seemed to be thinking about other things, so maybe she missed something? Great, now she was paranoid. Though that didn't mean she could magically stop thinking about it, magically stop doubting her boyfriend. She kind of wanted to talk about it with someone... maybe she'd text Sophie later.
As she walked by Fitz's room after her date, she saw the door was now closed, but still heard quiet whispers. She would have stayed to listen a little, but she only had a few minutes before she had to go watch over the triplets, and she needed to change into something more casual. Successfully shoving her worries and doubts aside for the first time since her fight with Fitz, she changed before hurrying back to the leap master in hopes of putting a different, happier spin on the day.
