This chapter has my fave moment in the entire book- enjoy guys! You've definitely earned something big... this something will be a couple shorter chapters to fit the different perspectives I wanted to do.
=Dex was nervous as he walked into the grand venue Biana had rented for her Winnowing Gala. He wasn't use to dressing so fancy with his equally decked out siblings in tow, gaping at the celebration dancing all around them. There was a table for orderves, as well as a table for presents, both on the opposite wall from the entrance. Chairs lined the walls while in the very back center, sat two throne like chairs, which Dex guessed were for Biana and Keefe. The rest of the room was open space undoubtedly meant and being used for dancing. People twirled from all about, soon separating the Dizznees so much that Dex couldn't see any of them by the time he had made it half way to the present table to set down his gift for Biana.
He scanned the room for the triplets for a moment, but a light tap on the shoulder stole his attention. As soon as he turned around, he was met by a small frown and furrowed eyebrows from a girl who shouldn't be anything but elated or have her brow creased in any manner at an event like this.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Dex noticed that she wore heels today, because he didn't have to look down as far to meet her eyes.
"I haven't been able to find Keefe," Biana had her hands clasped together, her fingers squirming anxiously, "had you seen him?"
He shook his head, and began to worry as well, Keefe was her number one, "He's not here yet?"
"No, but he'll be here, I just don't know when..." she sounded like she was trying to convince herself more than anything, but overall was clearly upset. He had to do something to cheer her up.
"Oh, I have your present with me. I know you plan to open them all later, but I think you'll want to open this one now. It's from the triplets and I, we did it together..." uncomfortably, Dex scratched the back of his neck as he held the two messily wrapped packages out to her. "Well, one is. The other is something I owe you."
Instantly, Biana's face lit up and she gasped, "The necklace? You really made me one?"
Nodding, he smiled, feeling the butterflies flutter inside of him softly, "Of course I did. Sorry it took so long, I wanted it to be perfect."
"Which one is it? I want to open it first! Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Her excitement fueled his confidence, and with a chuckle, he pointed to the package on the left, the one with more tape and fraying paper than the other. He had wrapped it himself, "It's not the best wrapped present in the world... sorry. I was in a rush, I finished it last night and ran out of time-"
Biana's fingers brushed against his as she took it out of his hands, glowing like an angel. She giggled at his apology as she started to peel the wrapping paper away, "I like how you work so well with metal, but when it comes to paper and tape-" she stopped when she saw the golden lily necklace in her hand, which was a little bit smaller than her palm. "Oh Dex... it's..." she didn't seem to be able to tear her eyes away from the necklace in her palm, staring at it in awe.
"A locket," he finished for her, and gently opened up one of the petals to reveal a picture of Keefe.
Beaming, her eyes sparkling, his heart aflame, they opened all of the little metal doors, revealing images of her friends and family, except-
With a frown, Biana asked, "Where's your picture?" She turned the locket in her hands as if to look for a secret door.
"I-I didn't put one in, do you like it?" The warm feeling in his chest suddenly froze over with fear.
"It's the most incredible thing I've ever seen, but your picture isn't in here too, even though it belongs in it," Biana said candidly, unknowingly resparking the warmth in his heart.
"There weren't enough spaces to fit everyone," lied Dex. In all reality, he didn't think she would notice, or care.
"I hate to ask this, but would you mind fixing it? Not today though, I really want to wear it, but it won't be complete until your picture is there too."
Dex almost swooned, but nodded, "Alright, need help putting it on before you open the next one?"
Biana nodded and took off her current necklace- a simple silver chain with a teardrop shaped crystal pendant, handing it to him. She then turned, sweeping her dark hair over her shoulder as he gingerly clasped the golden-bronze necklace around her neck. Dex's fave was bright red as she faced him once more, smiling widely, ready to open the next package. He handed it to her, and she opened it with a joyous squeal.
"They're so beautiful! All four of you made these?" Biana asked as she pulled out the butterfly earrings, her hands moving to her ears to take out the crystal studs she had been wearing, handing them to him as well.
"Yeah, Bex designed them, Lex held the steadying pliers, Rex shaped them, and I polished them off."
"They're so gorgeous, and they match the necklace!" Biana gushed as she put them in.
Protectively, Dex's hand closed around her jewelry she had given him to hold, not wanting it to be knocked out of his hand or anything, "They're made from the same metal as the necklace."
"Well they're an amazing gift," she hugged him, kissing his cheek affectionately, red sprouting across his face from her touch. "Thank you so much!"
"It's no problem," he assured her, and Della rushed over.
"Biana, I think I see Keefe enter- oh Hi Dex, how're you?" Della smiled at the sight of him.
"Good thanks, but I better find my siblings. Hope you find Keefe," Dex waved slightly, a smile tugging at his lips, "I'll see you for the seventh dance, Biana."
"Sixth actually," she corrected with a wave, totally unaware of how bewitching she was.
"Even better."
With that, they broke away, going to paths, her necklace and earrings clasped, forgotten, in Dex's hand.
